For a trained Starfleet counselor, Katie seemed to have little control over the appearance of her own emotions across her face and Chavez’s comment led to quite the parade of them: first, a soft pink flush of the cheeks at the sweet compliment; then, a deeper red flush of embarrassment, and finally, a pallor as the briefest amount of both fear and anger flitted through her eyes. Before long, however, her pleasant smile had returned and she nodded at Chavez. “Why don’t you let me know when you’re off shift and we’ll figure out where to meet up?” she replied, finally, her question not sounding particularly much like a question. She opened her mouth again to speak, but closed it again quickly, leaving the question where it stood, alone.Lt Cmdr Nunn, CNS
Domingo observed the fast flowing changes in emotions across the Counselor’s face, surprised and concerned at the last of it. He caught himself wondering what lay behind such a reaction, as he thought his compliment was innocent enough while still being honest. Taking an effort to set this lingering thought aside in his mind, Domingo listened to her final… statement?
Blinking his eyes to take this shift in stride, Domingo responded, “I’m off shift now actually. I don’t suppose that’d be too short of notice though? Also, were there any other question that you had or am I psychologically fit for duty?”

Katie’s mouth repeated its cycle of opening and closing again. On one hand, it was late and she could easily make an excuse that she needed to get some sleep. On the other hand, she was genuinely interested in the meditation that Chavez had to offer and in ensuring that he had a social presence on the Dresden crew. A twinge of resignation flitted by and she shrugged at him. “I don’t have any plans,” she replied, appreciating the slight irony of her words as she was currently encouraging Chavez to embark on a social life and clearly her own was lacking. “I don’t have any concerns or questions and I know you’ve received frequent psychological evaluation. I’d like to continue to collaborate on your reintegration into a shipboard environment, especially in a follower role.” Her tone quickly grew more confident as the leadership buzzwords spilled out.

Domingo nodded his head but then shook it slightly, “Follower wouldn’t be the correct term Counselor, but subordinate. I know it may seem like I’m splitting hairs, but subordinates are usually involved in the decision making process while the Chief of Security does make the final decision, in my case anyway. Sorry, I have a thing for having things in black and white with no ambiguity.”
Katie flushed slightly at her poor word choice and nodded an affirmation. “You’re right, that wasn’t the right word,” she observed and then grinned wryly. “And I know what you mean about black and white…”
“As for meditation, like you asked, I suppose there’s no time like the present.” Domingo matched his words with action, removing his shoes before placing them to the side of the couch. He then slid gently down to the floor and sat cross legged, then looked at the Counselor.
Ensign Chavez, Sec
Katie blinked but followed Chavez down to the floor of her office, folding her legs into a matching cross-legged position before looking expectantly and slightly uncertainly at the security officer. Her shoes were already off from her sprawl on the couch when Chavez arrived, so at least she could skip that step.
