“If you want to jump up here,” Elaine gestured to the now vacated biobed, “I can check out your injury,”

Katie smiled her thanks at Janvier and went to hop up on the empty biobed, wincing as her zeal to get treated overshadowed her current physical limits. Her eyes unfocused slightly as she pondered the security ensign that she had just met, but soon her attention was back in Sickbay. Janvier’s scans would reveal that Nunn too had a moderate concussion as well as a nasty scalp laceration right at her hairline, matting her brown hair with blood. The rest of her was relatively unscathed, just the mild bumps and bruises that one might expect upon being violently thrown out of bed. The pain killer that Charlie had attacked her with was slowly starting to wear off and she could feel the little dwarves with hammers starting to beat viciously inside her skull as she tried to focus on the quick treatment to allow Janvier to return to her other patients.

Not wanting to be left out, Enj jumped up onto the biobed next to the Counselor flopping down next to her and lying his head on her thigh. “I think he’s taken a liking to you,” Elaine laughed, as she picked the dog up and placed him back on the floor. Much to the Enj’s obvious displeasure as he gave an annoyed huff when his feet hit the floor.

Katie’s face quirked into a look of displeasure that mirrored Enj’s, her hand having readied to give him a good scratch behind the ears before Janvier relocated him back to the ground.

With one eye on Enj and the other eye on her tricorder readings, the CMO conducted her scans quickly. The Counselors head was the obvious main concern, and as she returned her tricorder back to it’s place, she made sure she located a dermal regenerator, and replicated more bowls of water, towles and sponges. “How does you head feel?” she asked, as she reached up to pushing Katies hair out of the way so that she could get a better look at the wound.

In what seemed to be the injury of the hour, Katie was suffering from a nasty concussion as well. “Like there are tiny cadets with ice picks inside of it,” she remarked, wincing to emphasize her point. “Dr. Bailey gave me something earlier but it seems to be wearing off now.”

“I’ll give you some more,” Elaine said turning around and preparing a hypo. Seeing the Doctor was distracted, Enj took the oppertunity to jump back up on the biobed, and promptly plopped the whole of his small body in Katie’s lap. When Elaine returned with a wet towel and the hypo with the pain killer in it, he raised his head and gave her a look as if to challenge her to dare try and remove him again.

“You’re lucky I’ve finished scanning,” The Doctor said to the dog as she administered the hypo. Although her tone was admonishing, her eyes twinkled in amusement.

Katie had opened her mouth to object to the hypospray but the doctor had made her way to prepare it before she could get it out and then her attention was quickly distracted by the little ball of love. Running her fingers along Enj, she closed her eyes and felt some of the tension of the nightmare in her sleep and the nightmare in her reality melt away. Janvier’s voice shocked her back to reality and her eyes flew open again, a wary look at the hypospray. While she did need the nasty headache to go away so that she could be a functional member of the crew, the pain medication wasn’t her favorite. Despite the lack of pain from the administration, her entire body tensed as Janvier came close and administered it, but the quick relief from the pain showed as her face softened slightly. “Thank you,” she finally spoke, her voice somewhat uneven.

“You’re welcome,” Janvier smiled, reaching over and using the towel to clean around the wound. “Your injury isn’t serious,” she said as she worked, misinterpreting the tension that Nunn carried from the hypo. “Once I’ve cleaned away some of the blood a little bit, I will be able to run the regenerator over it, and your other bruises, and you’ll be back to work in no time.”

Lt. (j.g.) Janvier
CMO

Katie appreciated the misinterpretation and made no move to correct the CMO in her conclusion. She forced a small smile at her and a brief nod that did, admittedly, feel like a much more manageable action now that pain inhibitors were coursing through her. She was about to thank the doctor again before realizing she had just said that, so she simply sat and let the woman do her work, keeping her hands on the small, calming animal.
