“I never meant to suggest otherwise, Commander.” Molly said. A dry hint in her tone. “I trust your judgement when it comes to psychology matters.” Holloway tried to block the thoughts intruding in her head telling her that she would had been better off as she was, mentally cursing Calvin for making the appointment. “When do you suggest we start, and how long will it take?”
Capt. Holloway, CIO
Katie gave Holloway a friendly smile, hoping to indicate that she wasn’t at all insulted. If she was going to get her rankles up every time a patient was the least bit resistant, she would have flunked out of counseling before making it out of her training program. “I’d suggest that we start as soon as possible, Captain, but after you’ve gotten a couple of good nights of sleep” she responded, keeping a slight twinge of firmness in her voice, feeling that it might assist in ensuring a somewhat reluctant participant’s participation. “Unfortunately, I can’t tell you precisely how long it will take, but progress will be made and we will evaluate and re-evaluate every step of the way. Perhaps, if you have some time now, you could go see if Ensign Bailey is available?”
Lt Cmdr Nunn, CNS
Molly’s stomach knotted at Nunn’s description. “I…” For a moment she seemed hesitant, before her expression changed to a more resolute one. “I don’t have the best track record when it comes to counselors. I know that…” She sighed. “… if I leave now without booking a followup I will probably not come back.” It was a reality that was hard for her to admit, but the truth was, even with the promise of help, Molly knew herself well enough to know that she could make herself change her own mind in seconds. Especially when it came to sharing anything personal. “Do you think we could officially book a day for us to start? That way I’ll feel forced to come without you having to drag me out my quarters…”
With a small smile at the prospect of leaving, Molly continued. “I’ll go see Ensign Bailey. Should you come with me as well, or… can I just waltz into sickbay and demand medication?” The last of her words were supposed to be uttered in a more playful fashion, but in classic Holloway’s style, the delivery was completely flat.
Capt. Holloway, CIO
Katie smiled reassuringly at Holloway. “I really admire that you know yourself that well and feel comfortable sharing that information with me,” she commented. “Let’s plan on meeting at 0800 in two days. Will that work with your schedule? And as far as Dr. Bailey is concerned, let me make that easier for you.” Without waiting for a response and keeping steady eye contact with Holloway, Katie reached for her comm badge and tapped it lightly.
As someone who had been in counseling since an early age, Molly felt like she didn’t have a choice but to know herself. At least knowing how far she could trust herself to show up at counseling meetings…
“0800 in two days works fine for me.” In her mind, Holloway silently wondered if she could skip the meeting with a reckless morning workout routine, but then she remembered she was not going to be authorized to kick her holodeck program over a certain level.
“Wonderful!” Katie responded, making a note on a nearby PADD so that she too would recall the appointment. “Remember, I know where to find you,” she added, a smile quirking up her lips although there was a hint of seriousness and firmness behind her tone that belied her understanding of Holloway’s thought process.
=/\= Nunn to Bailey. Doctor, are you available for a consult? =/\=
Lt Cmdr Nunn, CNS
Bailey put aside the culture samples she was working on. =/\= Of course Counselor, shall I come to your office? =/\= she asked, mildly curious as to what Nunn needed to consult her on.
Dr Bailey
As Bailey’s voice came through the speaker, Molly exhaled softly. The last time she had seen the young doctor, she still went by her mother’s maiden name – Wright. Now, as she returned from her leave with a different name, but not feeling different at all, Molly couldn’t help but feel like a chapter had closed and another was beginning. Not to mention, Bailey was also the only person besides Cal, and possibly Jersey, to know the full extent of her injuries that fateful day in the holodeck. … please do talk to someone about it… The doctor’s words when she had left sickbay came back to her mind. In part it had been due to her that she was sitting in the Counselor’s office.
In silence, Holloway waited for Nunn to reply.
Capt. Holloway, CIO
=/\= Please. Nunn out. =/\=
Charlie filed the samples she was working on to complete later as she replied. =/\= I’m on my way, =/\=
Katie’s body had moved forward as she spoke via the communicator, but now that the conversation was finished, she leaned back. They had a few moments before Bailey would make her way to her office and she spent those studying Holloway. Not in an aggressive way, of course, but in the mere curiosity she had of another human being and her foibles and strengths.
Lt Cmdr Nunn, CNS
Charlie grabbed her medkit and headed for the counselor’s office, still a little curious as to the nature of the consultation. As she neared Nunn’s office, she instinctively straightened her uniform and pressed the door chime.
Dr Bailey
“Come in!” came the soft voice from within, smiling as the door opened to reveal Bailey. Glancing at the med kit, Katie laughed lightly and said, “I guess I should have been more specific about what kind of consult I needed.” Indicating the other woman in the room, she continued, “Captain Holloway and I needed your expertise to discuss some medication ideas to get her some rest, but I’ll let her get into the details.” She turned to look at Holloway expectantly.
