<SNIP>Orin shook his head.
“Not much of my own, but the ship is in distress.” Orin said quietly.
- Orin, CE
OOC: We seem to have split the sickbay thread so I’ll continue this bit here
IC: Charlie nodded sympathetically as she put a reassuring hand on Orin’s arm. “I know sir,” she said softly as she checked for any signs of decompression sickness. “We’ll get you out of here as quickly as we can but you’re not going to be any good in this state,” she added in a firmer tone. “Do you have any shortness of breath or a headache?” she asked as she mentally went through a checklist.
OOC: any other injuries etc?
Dr Bailey
Orin shook his head a bit.
“Not much pain after that shot doc. Just echos of the damage the ship has sustained. I do feel a bit drowsy though.”
OOC: The tricorder does pick up mild decompression injuries.

Charlie nodded as she checked the scans. “You will do I’m afraid, you’ve got a mild case of decompression sickness but I can give you something for that,” she replied as she ferretted around in the medical cabinet beside the bed. She quickly mixed together a cocktail of Trioxin, Vertazine & Netinaline to counteract his symptoms and gently pressed it into his neck. “That should make you feel a bit more with it Lt Cmdr,” she said with a sympathetic smile. “It feels a little silly saying it but I should advise you to take it easy for a few days but I’m guessing that’s not going to happen…” she added with a weak grin.
Dr Bailey
“Not with the ship screaming in my head.” Orin replied as he tried to sit up.
- Orin, CE
Charlie gently put a hand on his arm and helped him sit up, “take it slowly sir, that’s going to take a couple of minutes to kick in and I don’t want to have to restrain you…” she said with a gentle smile. “How’s the pain now?” she asked as she studied him carefully.
Dr Bailey
“My own personal pain wasn’t the issue after the last shot you gave me. I think this shot might have me a bit giddy.” Tom said with an odd sparkle in his eyes, “Besides, I don’t think you can give me a shot for the ships pain unless you intend to shut down my empathic abilities.”
- Orin, CE
Charlie shook her head sympathetically. “I’m afraid that’s your brain readjusting to lack of oxygen when you were exposed to the vacuum of space, the Vertazine will take care of that momentarily,” she said in a soft, soothing tone. As he spoke of the ship again she gave herself a mental scolding for not remembering Orin’s unique abilities as it dawned on her that the ship in such condition must have been overwhelming for him. She gently placed a hand on his shoulder and gave it a reassuring squeeze. “I’m sorry sir, this must be difficult for you, I can give you a cortical inhibitor to block some of it out?” she offered as she reached for the device although she wasn’t convinced he would accept it.
Dr Bailey
“ABSOLUTELY NOT!” Orin said forcefully then took a breath, “Sorry. To take away my machine empathy would be akin to you loosing an important sensory input. I simply cannot allow it.”
- Orin, CE
Charlie was a bit taken back by his vehement response, although she had expected he would decline the offer. “Of course sir, I understand, it would be like me volunteering to go blind for a day. I could give you a mild dose of a neural suppressant to minimise the intensity but still retain your abilities?” she offered as a less drastic option. “Other than that, there isn’t much else I can do I’m afraid,” she said with an apologetic smile.
Dr Bailey
“No, the intensity helps me diagnose severity.” he said, “But if you could give me a dose to triox compound it would facilitate getting me back to work more rapidly.”
- Orin, CE
Charlie nodded as she prepared the dose and gently pressed the hypospray into his neck. “This will help your body cope with the reduced lung capacity you currently have due to the vacuum but you need to remember that although it will mask your symptoms, your body is still damaged and needs to recover so try not to overexert yourself too much…” she trailed off knowing that given the state of the ship, the engineering crew were going to be working round the clock to repair it.
The young doctor quickly loaded up another hypospray with a second dose and passed it to Orin. “Normally I would tell you to come back in 4 hours and we will give you another dose but given we have half the crew with major injuries in here and I suspect you will be busy with repairs, in this instance you might be better off administering it yourself, I am assuming you would be happier with that?” she asked, fairly sure of his answer.
