The door to the Counselor’s office chimed. Standing outside was Ensign Chavez, reporting for the psych eval he hadn’t had a chance to perform yet.

“Enter!” came a soft but commanding voice from within the office. As the door slid open, Katie tossed the PADD to the floor beside the couch and slid first to a seated position and then to her feet. Smiling welcomingly at the visitor, she queried, “hello, Ensign, what can I do for you?”

Taking a moment to steel himself before stepping over the threshold, Domingo returned the greeting with a slight grin, “Hello again Counselor. Thank you again for your assistance before. I hope I’m not bothering you too late at night.”

Domingo’s face went more impassive as he said, “I’m here per regulations for a standard ship psychological evaluation upon joining the crew and after any sort of ship emergency is dealt with.”

Stepping over the discarded PADD, Katie held out her hand to shake Chavez’s in greeting, even though they had already been introduced in Sickbay. As her hand connected with his, she suddenly realized that she had forgotten to put on the boots deposited at the other end of the couch and laughed softly at herself. What an image she must be in her rumpled uniform and socks. Shaking her head minutely, she responded, “you’re not bothering me at all, please, have a seat and let’s get this taken care of.” She gestured to one of the overfilled couches. “Can I get you something to drink?”
