Charlie sighed and finished her glass of water, setting the empty glass down carefully in front of her before giving Nunn a calculated nod. “I think it’s time…” she said quietly. Deep down she knew she needed to move past it and she couldn’t do that with only half the picture. She wearily rubbed her eyes and gently stretched her hand which had started to stiffen up. “Where do you think we should start?” she asked cautiously, still worried about what it might bring up.

Katie gave her an encouraging smile and one final squeeze before getting up to search her quarters for a PaDD they could use to access whatever records Starfleet had about the situation. Finally digging one up, she first refilled Bailey’s water glass and then returned to sit next to her. Holding up the device, she queried, “do you want to do the typing or would you like me to do so?”

Charlie thought carefully for a moment as she gratefully took the freshly replenished glass from her. “Would you mind?” she asked hopefully as she took a sip of refreshingly cool water. She shifted a little uncomfortably in her seat, trying to push aside the feeling of rising panic. This was it, she was finally going to find out what really happened. She closed her eyes briefly and took a deep breath, knowing it was time to finally face it and start putting it behind her. She unconsciously clutched at the delicate necklace around her neck which had been a present from her mother.

Katie smiled encouragingly and tucked her feet up so that the PaDD rested on her knees where both could view it. She kept her side gently pressed against Bailey’s side, a physical reminder of her presence and her support as she felt the officer shifting uncomfortably. Her fingers dancing over the PaDD, she put in a request to see if there was any Starfleet information regarding the incident.

Several official reports appeared on the PaDD in front of her, personal logs and statements of the officers who had survived the attack, including one from Charlie’s father. There were also numerous casualty reports and autopsy records. As they looked through the records, Charlie froze as they saw a file titled Star-Fleet Autopsy Record: Elena Bailey. Her heart began to race as she held a shaking hand over the PaDD, wrestling with whether to open the file or not. She unconsciously squeezed Katie’s hand as a tear splashed on the surface of the PaDD.
