In the beginning, it had been a small game, hidden away in an unused corner of the lower Engineering deck. Eventually, word had spread and it soon had become a little too big for the space. Today, it was one of the pressing issues in Manning’s personal to do list.

The moment she had gotten off duty, Amelia walked down to deck 13 where she hoped to find the office of the Dresden’s COB. She had never interacted much with the man outside of the Bridge, but she was hoping he might be able to help her.

Pressing the door chime, Manning straightened her uniform’s tunic and waited to be called inside.

Lt. Cmdr. Manning, XO

=^=Come in=^= the gruff voice of the COB came though the chime. He was sitting at his desk and appeared to be engaged in a tense conversation with someone on a nearby view screen.

=^=I don’t care Chief Manning, you need to find away to control that kid. We can’t have him streaking through the lower level corridors after midnight anymore. Eventually command.=^=he stopped when he noticed who was standing at the door. He looked up at the XO then back at the screen. =^=Control that kid chief, or it will escalate Chief, COB out=^= He pressed the button on the screen then turned to his attention to the XO.

“Sorry about that Commander, I wish you hadn’t heard that. I wasn’t ready to bring it to your attention yet.” He said apologetically.

Waiting at the doorstep for Brown to finish the conversation, Amelia’s lips twisted in a sideways smirk. “Another Manning, huh?” She said walking in. The smile never leaving her lips. “I hear they can be quite the trouble.” She winked playfully before motioning to the chair across from the Chief, on the other side of his desk. “May I?”

“Please.” He replied, taking his seat after she sat.

“You have nothing to apologize for, Chief Brown. And I will let you handle the uh… after hours nudity on your own. Of course, let me know if the issue escalates.” Manning smiled, this time more warmly. Her Received Pronunciation accent slightly thicker.

Shifting slightly in her seat, making herself more comfortable, Amelia continued. “Now, I have an issue you might be able to help me with. Do you, by any chance, have any available enlisted crew quarters that I can use?”

Lt. Cmdr. Manning, XO

A perplexed look came on the Chief’s face. “Of course Commander. But you will find them smaller then your own quarters, and less accommodating.”

Amelia chuckled. “Oh, not for me to sleep in, Chief.” She smiled. “It’s more for… entertainment purposes.” She paused for a second before continuing. “Tell me, roughly how many people do you think would fit in one of the rooms?”

Lt. Cmdr. Manning, XO

bump :)

COB eyed the XO rather suspiciously. “Well, normally, depending on rank and situation, there are normally between two and four crewmembers assigned to each room. During emergencies, we can fit up to 10 per room, although it would be rather cramp and I wouldn’t recommend it. Can I ask why?”

“Hmm…” Amelia leaned back on her chair, clearly pondering on the situation. With a small sigh she leaned forward before speaking. “You see, Chief… I like to gamble. And apparently so do many of our crew members. I’ve been running a… I guess you could call it semi-underground poker game every Tuesday evening. It started on the Engineering deck, but it has slowly become too big for the space to accommodate. I’m trying to figure out a way of getting us somewhere else before next week’s game… do you think you could find me something? And of course, you’re more than welcome to join us. It’s a small stakes game, 150 credits buy-in.”

Lt. Cmdr. Manning, XO

COB smiled. “I would love to join your game. It’s been a few years though.” He looked at her. “Texas hold-um?” he asked curiously.
