Charlie sat wearily at her console, fighting the urge to fall asleep. She hated working the night shift, it was always so boring. So far she had catalogued a handful of cultures they had received from Starbase 187 for medical research, read a thoroughly dry journal about Bolian field medicine and watered the plant in the CMO’s office 3 times. She had no patients in sickbay currently but someone had to be on call. Lt Calder had come in a couple of hours ago with a mildly sprained ankle from a vigorous game of parisses squares and Ensign Jim had been treated for a headache, and that was it. Charlie yawned out loud and came out into the main sickbay to stretch her legs, hoping that something noteworthy might happen in the next 6 hours.
OOC: Anyone want to come & join me? :)
Dr Bailey
OOC: Well, I suppose I need a boarding physical…
Having recently joined the Dresden, Katie pondered her list of tasks that she needed to complete before making her way to officially report for duty. Given she was the ship’s only counselor and had already been cleared by another counselor before joining the ship, she could skip the requisite psychological evaluation, at least, but that didn’t save her from checking in with Sickbay. And so, she found herself in front of Sickbay’s doors, a moment away from them opening. Yes, it was the middle of night shift, but as a night owl and eager to report for duty the next day, it worked for her.
Squaring her shoulders and smoothing her hair back to ensure there were no straggling fly aways from her French braid, she took the step forward that allowed the doors to slide open just as Charlie was making her way into Sickbay. Catching sight of a seemingly tired ensign in medical colors, she quickly made her way over, taking note of the empty room and hoping that meant there would be time for her check.
“Excuse me, Ensign,” she greeted as she approached. “Do you have a few spare moments for a boarding physical?”
Lt Cmdr Nunn, Counselor
Charlie smiled warmly, glad of the company. “Of course Lt Cmdr, please do come in,” she said as she ushered the new officer to a biobed. “I’m guessing you must our new counsellor?” She asked warmly as she flipped open her medical tricorder and began to run the standard scans. “Welcome aboard, I’m Dr Bailey…Charlie,” she added with a grin as she picked up a padd and started making notes.
“So is there anything you need to report since your last medical exam?” She asked as she took a quick flick through Katie’s notes.
Dr Bailey
Katie followed Bailey to the indicated biobed and boosted herself onto it. “Yes, that’s me,” she replied to the doctor’s question with a warm smile. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Charlie, I’m Commander Nunn, Doctor Nunn, or just Katie, depending on how much trouble I’m in.” Her blue eyes sparkled as she delighted in meeting the younger officer. “No, I don’t have anything to report,” she added. “I do feel like I live in Sickbay lately, though.” She added a small laugh that only had the smallest smidge of hardness to it.
OOC: Scans would show nothing of interest except for mostly healed cracked ribs and other signs of a fight. Her service record (that I haven’t come up with 100% yet) would reveal that she had previously served as a victim advocate for Starfleet and had been caught in an incident protecting a young woman from abduction.
Lt Cmdr Nunn, Counselor
Charlie chuckled and nodded, “I’m the same, I knew if my mother called me Charlotte I was in big trouble!” she smiled warmly before her brow furrowed slightly and her jaw clenched as she thought of her mother. Not allowing herself to dwell on the thought, she quickly looked down at the padd, wondering if the counsellor would notice her discomfort. She cleared her throat and quickly changed the subject. “It looks like you’ve been in the wars a bit though?” she asked a little puzzled, her previous injuries looked more like what you would expect from a security officer than a counsellor, clearly there was more Katie than expected. “Are you still getting any pain from those ribs?” she asked as she pulled a tray across to her.
Dr Bailey
Katie laughed, having already figured that Charlie must be short for Charlotte. “Well, then I know you won’t mention my first name is actually Catherine,” she whispered conspiratorially. “But no one has called me that since I was under three feet tall, even when in trouble.” Her eyes twinkled again, but then rapidly focused on Bailey as her experience noticed the slight change in demeanor of the medical officer at the mention of her mother. She filed that information away for later, not believing the middle of Sickbay during a boarding physical was the time or the place to counsel someone. Right now, she was on Bailey’s turf.
Charlie smiled weakly and nodded, “your secret’s safe with me!” She said quietly with a chuckle.
Her previously joyful eyes darkened even more at Bailey’s question and her hand went reflexively to the still slightly tender areas of her rib cage.
“Nothing unmanageable,” she replied, which was mostly the truth. It was her turn for some bit of evasion as she left it at that. After all, that’s why she had pushed to return to duty and to a shipboard posting so soon after… the incident.
Lt Cmdr Nunn, CNS
Charlie studied her face to see if she was being honest as her hand hovered over a hypospray. “I can give you something to help with that?” She offered as she made a quick note on her padd to follow up later as well. She noticed Katie seemed uncomfortable and put a gentle hand on her arm. “Are you alright?” She asked gently, not wanting to push too hard.
