USS Dresden

Main Sim: Docking and Talking

<snip>

With a shrug of his shoulders, Issac pushed himself off the wall; re-joining the small group. “Yes, Captain.” Turning to face Shalir, he relayed Holloway’s consent. “Captain Holloway understands; and uh… you are welcome to proceed.” Disregarding his lingering resentment of the severe admonishment he had received earlier; Issac was simply uncomfortable with acting as a translator. Even aside from the oddness of this entire interaction; he was very much so looking forward to their communication issues soon being resolved.

-Forgrave, CoS

Shalir smiled at Forgrave and stepped forward to Halloway. She brushed her fingertips against Molly’s temples and then took a breath. “There. Ma’am, my name is Shalir. On behalf of my shipmates and my Captain, I thank you for your assistance… and your patience. And I am certain that with us working together, we can free your people and mine.”

As Shalir came forward and reached for her face, Molly forced herself not to take a step back. Physical contact had always been the hardest part of living for Holloway, and she took a deep breath, never taking her eyes from the alien being.

When she spoke, Molly nodded in understanding. “I’m Molly… Holloway.” She wasn’t sure whether Shalir’s people had the concept of last names, as the woman had introduced herself with a single one. “My apologies for all the confusion, and thank you for your translation technology. Was the pulse we just felt a way to have our crew understand yours?”

Shalir nodded emphatically. “Yes, and I am so sorry for the unexpected activation. I misunderstood your crew’s body language. We are still learning the ‘unspoken’ aspect of your people. But now, at least, your crew will be able to understand us… although we can only understand you after physical contact.”

“If you don’t mind me going straight to the point though, I would ask if you could tell us how you came to be trapped on the station… our Science department is already working in a way to free your ship and the station from the field that seems to be surrounding both. But I’m sure any information you might have would help us greatly. I don’t know how much more time we have, so I would like to get this underway as soon as possible.”

OOC: I would like to insert my character into this thread if that is okay. But before I do, I have a question for our almighty GM. How would the beam affect a Borg drone? My character isn’t exactly Borg but is something similar. Think cousin to the Borg but with all memories of her former self, and even her sense of self, still intact. And no outward implants. Everything is internal. She sort of looks like the Borg queen but with a fully intact body. And inside she is crawling with nanites. Just wondering before I post. Thank you in advance.

-H.

OOC: The pulse would probably effect your character the way it is intended. It doesn’t change or modify any biological aspect, it simply creates a kind of ‘complementary vibration’ in the subject that allows for comprehension of the musical language. It wears off in about a day.

IC:

Shalir nodded ot Molly. “Of course. My people are called Lidrian. We come from a world very far from here. From what we gathered form Mr. Havalcheck on the station, our planetary system has not been contacted by your Federation before. We have a network of satellites that enable us to communicate with out exploratory vessels… similar to this one. The power source is what has caused the temporal lock that has your station and our vessel trapped. Now, I will tell you that your people are in no real danger. They are not aging or using energy. They are trapped in a recurrent time loop of approximately zero-point-zero-zero-zero-zero-zero-four seconds. That is a side-effect of our satellite power supply. You see, our satellites are built fully powered and are constructed of a metal we only have ever found on our home world. The metal has certain peculiar properties… mainly of which is that it exists in all previous times simultaneously. So anything made and powered by it takes its power from all previous points in time… thereby creating an infinite supply of energy. We used all of the nyn-metal in the construction of our network several hundred years ago. Now, as we explore, we use the network for communication. We were unaware of such things as ‘subspace communication’ until this vessel was sent to repair a nearby satellite that had stopped responding. When we arrived, the satellite was completely non-functional… the power supply had been removed from it’s housing; which, as you can tell, is a very dangerous thing to do unless you do it properly. We discovered your observatory and made contact as best we could, but after a few hours we were able to convey our mutual intent and then we exchanged the means to understand each other. My Captain and your station director were discussing how best to move the power core off your station when it surged… and that was just over two of your standard weeks ago. Our comm system is on the bridge, which is temporally locked like your station. If we can get the power core off the station and back into the housing of the satellite, then the danger will be averted. Moving the core will move the field, so once it is away from here we should all be free of it’s effects. If you can help with that, I can secure the core in the satellite.”

Molly nodded in understanding. It seemed that Shalir had thought of all the answers to any question Holloway might have. “I think my crew has gotten to the same conclusion you just described. They found an object, that I am guessing is the power core you mentioned. And they were going to move it in order to move the field, just before your pulse went through our ship. Do you think you, or someone specialized on your vessel, would work alongside our scientists and engineers in order to move the core? I am sure that any information you have on the subject will be welcome, and you will probably be able to pass it along much better than I can. That is, if they consent to the uh… procedure… for you to be able to understand them… but I am sure that will not be a problem.”

Unnoticed for quite some time Lt. Harper stood nearby studying the beings carefully. The auditory projections had not affected her in any negative way. She found it curious. She could remember the rhythms exactly even after the bell’s stopped ringing. So many bells. Was there some sort of melody? she wondered. Of course, had she been allowed to, Belle could have simply assimilated one of the beings. They would quickly know everything they needed to know, saving heaps of time. Fortunately, her ethical code was still intact… mostly. She stood by in case her services were needed.

-Lt. Harper, CIO

Shalir looked at Molly and said “I am the Lead Satellite Technician for this repair ship. I would be happy to help however I can. If possible, if I can meet with your team so we can understand each other, I think we can resolve this very quickly. I am willing to join you on your vessel, if you will allow it. I would invite you on board ours… but temporal locks being what they are, that probably isn’t a good idea.”

GMT

Molly nodded once again, stepping aside and gesturing for her to walk the short distance to the Dresden. “Would you be the only one coming, or do you need any other member of your crew?”

As they stepped on the Dresden’s deck, Molly tapped her commbadge. =/\= Holloway to Simms and Drillek. Shalir, one of the lead technician’s for the alien vessel will be helping us with moving the object you detected, it seems to be a power core of a satellite made from a very particular type of metal. I’m sure she’ll be able to brief you better than I can. She will be coming with me to the Bridge. Currently, you will be able to understand her thanks to the pulse we just felt, but she won’t be able to understand you unless you allow her to briefly touch your temples… =/\= Molly’s voice trailed off as she realized how weird she might have sounded. =/\= Are you both okay with that? =/\=

With a quick glance to Shalir, Holloway motioned for her to follow her.

Holloway, CO

Shalir nodded and followed the Captain. She looked back at Forgrave and gave him a look that seemed to ask if he was coming as well.

OOC: We will move this interaction to the Bridge thread from here on. Anyone wanting to join is more than welcome to follow.
