Hsull had dropped off his carry bag in his quarters and stood outside the door to the counselors office. He took a deep breath and released it slowly. It wasn’t that he didn’t like counselors, he just didn’t fully trust them. Anyone who was always trying to poke around with your thoughts and emotions just seemed a bit too much to him. There was probably a good reason there were no Caitian counselors that he had ever heard of. Straightening his uniform he pressed the door chime.

Bethany heard the chime and got up to close the door to Luna’s cage. Most people on board enjoyed Luna’s company but she never assumed. There were some people who didn’t like animals at all. She moved to the door and opened. “Please come in Warrant Officer Hsull. Would you like anything to drink or eat?”

” Thank you. If I could get a cup of coffee, extra cream no sugar, that would be fine.” Hsull noticed the cage and saw the small animal inside. ” I see you have a rabbit, that’s interesting, the medical officer has a dog. Are pets all that common on the Dresden ?”

Hsull - TO

Bethany walked over to the replicator, “Coffee, extra cream, no sugar.” Once it materialized she brought it over to him. “Please have a seat.” She reached for her own coffee on her desk and sat across from him. “Hmm let me think. The XO has a dog, and the marine CO does as well. Dogs actually seem to be the preferred bet on board. I’m the odd one out. Luna fits my personality well, and she keeps me company. People don’t exactly come hang out in the counseling offices.”

Hsull accepted the coffee, “Thank you very much.” He tested the temperature and took a large sip. “I don’t believe Caitians as a race generally keep pets, I may have to investigate that. I can see where a pet would be company.” Hsull took another sip of coffee, “I seem to have become addicted to this stuff. I had to figure out how to drink it though, having a basically carnivores mouth and teeth don’t make it easy, and it’s not socially acceptable to lap ones coffee up with your tongue.” Hsull gave the counselor a Caitian’s rendition of a grin, which was mostly just showing his teeth.

Bethany grinned, the Caitian smile not bothering her. “There are many types of pets to suit lots of personalities. As for the coffee I recommend you try all the different options in the ship’s computer database. Some are excellent and some are not so good. And I would say that socially acceptable would depend on the society, and if you are more comfortable lapping your coffee do so. It does others good to remember we all have different customs.” She took a long drink of her own coffee. “So what brings you to Dresden? Choice or orders?”
