USS Dresden
Reporting aboard - Meeting the XO
Posted by Warrant Officer Hsull (Tactical Officer) in Reporting aboard - Meeting the XO
Hsull had served on many ships in several capacities, and while piloting and operating small craft, especially fighters was a first love, the Tactical side of warfare drew him in like a favored mistress. He enjoyed the give and take and working to get an edge or advantage by studying the enemy and using their supposed strengths against them. Hsull was a staunch ally and an implacable foe, there was much he felt he could contribute to the Dresden and he was anxious to get started. The time that he had to spend in recovery and rehab had weighed heavily on him, so now he stood outside the XO’s office, the PaDD with his orders in hand. He understood that the XO was an unjoined Trill ,and that alone raised his curiosity a bit. He always felt it was good to know the command staff and how they operated together. Tactics worked both ways. He straightened his uniform, remembered to not dig his claws into any carpet and keep them retracted during proffered handshakes. He rang the door chime and stood squarely in the door.Hsull - Tactical Officer
BUMP to XO
“Come in!” Renveer called from inside the office, prompting the door to slide open. The executive officer sat with one leg crossed over the other at the knee on a high-backed wing chair in the middle of a modestly-sized room. The space was arranged more like a counselor’s office than that of an executive officer. Renveer’s chair was positioned across from a similarly-styled loveseat and recliner, and the three seating options were bridged by an ornate, finely-crafted wicker rug. Soft earth tones warmed the space and the lighting was a few shades more yellow than elsewhere on the ship. The walls were adorned with an array of abstract original art pieces from across Federation space and beyond, a collection of work from diverse cultures. The desk, usually the centerpiece of the room, had been pushed into one corner and appeared to be almost entirely unused.
Renveer stood and offered a welcoming smile as he moved to shake Hsull’s hand. “Chief Hsull, it’s good to meet you. I’m Lieutenant Commander Renveer, executive officer of the Dresden. Please, make yourself at home.” He swung a hand out to motion to the seating choices before returning to his chair and resuming his signature perch. Renveer was a rather plain trill man, with a unremarkable face whose expressions were easily interpreted by others. The trill marking along his temples were the most interesting feature of an otherwise unassuming demeanor. Although entirely unintimidating, Renveer carried himself with a practiced professionality and grace.
The arrangement of Renveer’s office was no accident. He had been the Dresden’s counselor before his promotion to executive officer and preferred this set-up. For that reason, he often took particular interest in the psychological profiles of new crewmates. Hsull’s mysterious injury and time in rehabilitation with Starfleet medical had not escaped his notice, though Renveer was a bit surprised to note that the limp was still present. “How’re you feeling, how’s your recovery going?” The question was born from genuine concern and good manners, nothing more.
