Ensign Riari Vaais adjusted her uniform for what had to be the millionth time, the action a mix of new assignment jitters and general nerves to being back aboard a federation ship after what felt like an extended time away. She smoothed one hand over the side of her hair, listening to the gentle sounds of the turbo lift while she groomed her appearance one last - The Door opened out to a long stretch of hallway, spartan as was regulation and yet flowing with personnel like an artery pulsing with blood vessels. Officers and cadets moving in and out of doors, bodies avoiding collision with grace or near disaster as people went about their day and duties. Riari blanched a little bit before taking a deep breath and clutching her datapad to her chest, took a step out into the controlled chaos. It was surprisingly easy to re-find the rhythm, for she had been on starships for far longer than this body’s lifetime thus far, and soon enough what had looked chaotic was really not as bad as her mind had predetermined it to be. Standing now in front of the medical bay’s door, Riari pulled the datapad away from herself, glancing down at the name one last time before engaging the door, which slid away quick and smooth revealing the room and its various medical equipment. Her eyes; bright, green, and curious scanned the room’s occupants, searching for the pips and colors that would indicate…
“Ah Chief Medical Officer Dr Janvier I presume?” She called spotting the dark blonde haired female from across the room, turning on her heel and walking towards the Human with a light smile on her expression. The Trill came to attention in front of the CMO and spoke. “Ensign Riari Vaais reporting for duty on the U.S.S. Dresden to the medical division.”
-Ensign Riari Vaais
OOC: What a strong first post! Sorry it’s taken so long to get back to you. I’ve been itching to but haven’t had enough time to write anything substantial.
IC: The combination of a sharp subtle elbow to her ribs from the sharp eyed Doctor that Elaine had been talking to, and the clear voice calling her name was more than enough to catch the attention of the young CMO. She watched as the darker haired woman approached, trying to place a name to the unfamiliar face. Almost every humanoid on the ship had to pass through Sickbay. Elaine could recall most of the crew members and knew straight away that the woman was new.
In the time it took Riari to cross the medbay, Janvier had noticed the Trill spots and knowing that she was expecting to gain a new Trill Ensign had worked out some of Riari Vaais identity. Her eyes gently scrutinized the Ensigns neat appearance. “At ease Ensign,” she commanded after a moment, getting that particular formality out of the way. She smiled warmly, “Welcome to the Dresden family. It’s always a pleasure to welcome a new officer aboard the Dresden. She’s a fine ship, but she sure knows how to get herself into trouble from time to time. Have you got your transfer information with you or has that been sent directly to me?”
Lt. Janvier, CMO
[OOC- No worries at all! I know life gets busy. <3]The Trill offered a little smile as she relaxed her stance, the PaDD she had held behind her back coming out and with a few short taps, the Ensign offered it to the CMO. It had the documentation Lt. Janvier was looking for, but was confirmed vocally upon Janvier’s retrieval. “Yes, I have it here, though I would not be surprised if a copy was sent to you already ahead of my arrival.” Riari clasped her wrist of her right arm lighting in front of her as she relaxed a degree more. “I am happy to be here Dr. Janvier. I cannot say I mind a ship who finds a little trouble now and then, hopefully, it stays the kind of trouble we can attend to right?” She inclined her head to the other doctor in the room in a pleasant greeting.
“Lets hope so,” Janvier agreed as she reviewed the Trill woman’s boarding papers. The other doctor nodded a friendly smile on his face, as he took his leave. He knew they’d be formally introduced by Janvier later and for now he had work to do.
Her eyes drifted then, her head turning as she surveyed they place on the ship she was likely going to spend most of her time. Names and numbers coming to mind as she looked over the equipment, her lips quirking a little in approval. Then her attention was back on the young CMO, “Have you served on her for a long while Lieutenant?”
-Ensign Riari Vaais
[OOC: I haven’t made any changes to your post, just slipped a paragraph on my own in between your ones to make the reading flow better. :)]
IC: “I’ve served on her for over a year now. Before that I was a doctor on the Ixlilton.” The Ixlilton was a fleet medical relief ship, known for being non-discriminatory in the refugees it took in. One of the few of it’s kind, it went into active war zones to provide medical aid where most other medical ships waited until it was safe for them to enter. It was a tough and risky vocation, and one that favored older more experienced doctors. Green doctors tended to be posted more on the exploration starships where they were eased into the realities of the galaxy. Placing one on a relief ship like the Ixlilton was akin to forgoing the swimming pool entirely and throwing them out to sea.
Speaking of ships had brought Janvier’s mind back to a name that had stuck out from the Ensigns boarding documents. “You were on the Sarengi? That can’t have been easy. If you need to take a few extra days before you officially start let me know. No one will mind. Like I said earlier the Dresden is a bit of a trouble magnet. You’ll find most of the crew fairly understanding and the counselor, if you haven’t met her already, seems nice. If you ever need someone to talk to you will there are plenty of options. At worst, there is always Enj.” she cast her eyes around, realising for the first time that the crew-proclaimed Chief Moral Officer (but really just the Docs pet dog) was missing. Normally the first to greet any newcomer, if he wasn’t around than he was probably getting into trouble somewhere.
