Bethany had one last check in-medical. She left the XO’s office and took the turbolift down to the medical deck. She stepped off and headed inside. Bethany didn’t particularity look forward to seeing a doctor, but she wasn’t avoidant either. She knew some who did, just like they avoided counselors. She looked at a passing nurse. “Lt. Gadi,” she held out her hand. “New CNS, I’m here for my physical if a doctor is available.”

The nurse nodded, “Of course Lt. Take a seat on a bio bed and I’ll get the doctor.” Before she could walk away, Bethany handed the nurse a iso chip with her medical records on it. She moved over to the nearest empty bio bed and hopped up onto it. She looked around, trying to get a feel for the type of people who worked in here. She supposed at times she would need to work closesly with this part of the crew as well, other than counseling sessions.

Many of the doctors, nurses and medics that passed by as they went about their assignments had bags under their eyes, or some form of weariness in their face. Many of them still recovering from last minute check-ins and physicals that had left it to the last minute. Bethany had arrived only a few days after, when the medical crew were still in the recovery phase from the sudden onslaught of work. Despite the evident post-departure recover phase, Sickbay had an almost energetic air about it. Conversations drifted through the air to where the CNS was sitting. One nurse was animatedly telling a patient about her 4th husband, while a pair of medics joked about the mission being a medical vacation, and a doctor was gushing to the nurse she was working with about how cute she thought someone by the name of Enj was. On one of the few occupied biobeds a small ball of black and white fluff was performing tricks for the patient there. At a distance it could almost be mistaken for a tribble if not for the tail.

Bethany listened to the idle conversation around her, smiling at some of the brief things she heard. She was trained to listen and pick up on the nuansences of conversation and body language. This, however, was just idle curiosity and because the staff wasn’t exactly being quiet, and so the sound carried. She spotted the ball of fur and then the tail and smiled a little as it played around on the biobed.

The door to the CMO’s office opened and the nurse who had initially seated Gadi, reappeared with a petite young woman carrying a PADD. At the sound of the door, the fluff ball jumped off the biobed it had been on and joined them. As the small group drew closer, a nose and four legs could be spotted, before the animal bolted for Gadi. The animal stopped just shy of the Counselor and nudged her gently with it’s nose followed by one very wet tongue.

Bethany smiled and despite the small size of the dog, he had a huge personality and strong instincts. Despite being only half Betazoid, she could still feel the exuberance and happiness of the small fluff ball. She bent down and pet the dog. “Hello there. I think you are barely bigger than Luna. You are certainly as sweet.”

The nurse chuckled, while the doctor simply shook her head with resignation and a touch of embarrassment, telling Bethany that this wasn’t the first time someone in Sickbay had been greeted so… enthusiastically. “I can take it from here,” The doctor directed at the nurse before turning her focus onto Sickbays latest visitor, “I apologize for him. He is the the ships most overzealous moral officer. He likes to know everyone on the ship, but I can have him removed if he is bothering you. He can be a touch energetic.”

Bethany stood up and offered her hand to the doctor. “No he’s sweet. And such strong feelings from such a small animal. But I like him. What’s his name?” She waited for the doctor to answer and then introduced herself. “I’m Bethany Gadi, the new ship’s counselor.”
