(snip)Again looking like a Sorcerer from an old holo-vid Stores use the vertural work space to energize the cargo transporters, holding the pattern wile the offending components were either removed or modified to their proper specifications. With a final scan to ensure their were no replication viruses in the pattern the shuttle rematerialized, hopefully as good as new.
Clinton”Stores”Reed, Supercargo
Bethany looked at the shuttle. She really didn’t think it would be that easy. “Computer access Athena controls and open cargo hatch.” She heard the computer whirring and then nothing. SHUTTLE ATHENA REQUIRES BIOMETRICS READING. Bethany tried her override code, but still the shuttle insisted on the biometrics. “Oh I don’t like this. I should have left it alone.” She walked over and tentativly laid a hand on the cargo hatch door, where she should have been shocked–and nothing. She laid her hand on the biometrics pad and the hatch opened. She stepped into the shuttle and the screens popped to life, startling her and she placed a hand on the exterior bulkhead by the door – and a snap/sizzle was heard and then cursing. The face on the screen laughed. “Not that easy, Lass, not that easy. You need this system, now stop trying to take it out.” Bethany groaned and sat down with the tricorder again taking more scans. This time nothing was phased but those strange little locks were still there.
Lt. Gadi, CNS“Oh I like your friend, is she single?” The merriment at the counselors plite was evident. “Replication viruses are an old Romulan trick. This is a new twist. I really want to know how that was dun.” Eyeing the scans as well as scrolling threw the new and old transport logs he searched for the tail tail sighs of the pattern corruption that recreated those components. “She is quite good.”
Clinton”Stores”Reed, Supercargo
Bethany laughed, despite the pain in her hand. “Yes, she is.” The idea was comical to Bethany but also sad. F’actar’s personal life was a Shakespearean tragedy. “She wasn’t the ops officer on Recon Alpha for nothing. But if you like I’ll get you her number.” Bethany laughed. If Reed could disable it on his own F’actar would probably invite him to Norda to talk shop. The transport logs would take a keen eye to find it. It was a modulating frequency that never repeated and changed fast. Much how shields and weapons were modified for the Borg.
Lt. Gadi, CNSStores had been scanning the shuttle as Lieutenant Gadi stepped in, “ I don’t know the how yet, but I think I know the what. Your friend is using formed forcefields, you said she fought the Borg?” Will running the specifications of the odd tumbler like components threw the data base he reached for his left cargo pocket, and finding it not their. “ Gods rotted lame brained uniform!” He quickly typed in a request to have a tool kit replicated and transported to him.
Clinton”Stores”Reed,Supercargo
Bethany nodded, “Yes, she was quite good at driving them crazy before she blew them up.” Bethany looks over at his frustration. “Have you considered a combat style unifrom? Lots of pockets and loops for gear.” Gadi watches the flucuations and shakes her head. “Just about the time I think I’ve got the pattern down it seems to change, but it keeps going at the same time.” She looks, “Look there’s another one.”
Lt. Gadi, CNSLooking over the work that the Counselor had done “ That looks familiar, ah she has used the shifting field modulation developed to combat the Borg as to her replicator virus. Nice.”
“I told you, she’s bloody brilliant and scary at the same time.” Bethany said. She obviously both adored the woman and respected her a great deal.
Having received a confidentiality warning Stores snorts. “ I have standing orders to not hack security features unless it’s life and death for ship or crew, do you mind opening this file?”
Clinton”Stores” Reed, Supercargo.
“If we don’t get this thing out, it will be life or death for the idiots touching my shuttle.” Bethany looked at the file and pulled it up on her PaDD. She sat down and began working on it. She tried her codes first, and they didn’t work. She sighed, hacking wasn’t her thing, but she had a little skill. She worked for several minutes and then groaned. She tried to type the ‘password’ in but the system wouldn’t take. Verbal identification was needed. “I really really don’t like her right now.” Bethany tried to override the verbal command to no avail. With as much composure and lack of embarrassment as she could must, “I’d trade all the chocolate for him.” It was absurd and F’actar had a cruel streak in her. But the verbal recognition worked. She passed the PaDD back to Reed.
Lt. Gadi, CNS“Seems the Federation has advance some in its study of Borg tech. The Chief would have probably recognized it right off.” Scrolling down the specks he saw that it was susceptible to a modulated nadion beam. “And Mayson could probably build one, he is the sneakiest tech on the ship.” The admiration for his crew and the problem he had Jenn presented was already in his tone.
“ Here use this to open the field so we can work.” Handing her a tool consisting of 4 small modules with self replicating scaffolding designed to breach containment fields for maintenance threw the aperture.
Wile the counselor opens a hole in the forcefield, Stores pulled out his Phasor and adjusted it to the needed frequency.
Clinton”Stores”Reed, Supercargo
Bethany opened the forcefield and stepped back. She saw the phaser and shook her head. This escalated quickly. Well if it got rid of that system. “Alright Mr. Reed. Have at it. I’m not sure I can watch,” she joked. She made sure to stay out of his way. When he said he could destroy anything…he really was. Oh her poor shuttle. And he could hear her chuckle slightly.
Lt. Gadi, CNSThe old Mark II hand phaser might have been a century old design, lacking the refinements if a modern one but it did not require a replicator to manufacture. Dialing for a wide beam with about ten percent more power than he estimated he discharged a three second burst.
The alien components glowed as the absorbed the energy, then began to ark with blue energy. “Let’s see if that did the trick.”
Clinton”Stores”Reed, Supercargo.
Bethany pulled out the tricorder and scanned the shuttle again and grinned. “Take a look for yourself.” She passed him the tricorder. The system was deactivated. “Should we remove the components or leave them there?” She stepped through to the shuttle and reentered. Purposely she laid a hand on the hull, and nothing, and then getting under the panel she reached to remove disconnect the power source, and again nothing. She grins over at Reed. “Well Mr. Reed it looks like we have a dead guard dog now.”
Lt. Gadi, CNS“Remove, defiantly remove. Borg tech has a nasty habit of regenerating and Momma Reed said Murphy was an optimist.” Stores grinned as he handed her the tools she would need to extract them. “Besides you can send them to her with a post card.” The phaser in the right hands was a versatile tool or a deadly one.
Stores initiated on last quantum scan to insure that their weren’t anymore surprises. It wasn’t unknown to set a trap for the clean up crew.
Clinton”Stores”Reed, Supercargo
“You got a containment box? I don’t feel like leaving these things sitting out. I don’t think they are really Borg. She has a wicked sense of humor but just say the word around her and she’d have us all buried in an old fashioned bomb bunker hiding before you could take a breath, but better safe than sorry. She is getting old.” Bethany takes the tools and starts getting to work. “Do me a favor. Don’t ever tell her I said she was getting old. I’d like to reach old age myself.” She wedges back under the front console again and starts taking the power supply out.
To get all the equipment out takes Bethany into the early hours of the morning. She climbs out finally tossing the last piece of equipment into the container and sighs. She closes the container and locks it placing it within the caution area and then closes and locks the shuttle. She hopes, the next time she opens it there are no problems. She grabs the PaDD she had originally come looking for and steps out of the caution area, turning the force field back on. It was going to be a long first day. She’d need more coffee.
Lt Gadi, CNS
Stores smiled as the lieutenant went back to work. Filing his phaser discharge report, he then dialed up a suitable containment module.
Seeing the scans were clear the old spacer slunk off to bed.
