Tapping the side of his glasses,”No need. I assume she has to, so we are going to go at it the other way around. We know that their is nothing keeping us from transporting the component as we transported the ship. Normally I would first attempt to transport out the component. But I assume it’s embedded and the old term ‘two is one, one is none is something that every operator I have ever met lived buy.” Stores hummed as he manipulated the scans from the transporter, and compared them to the original specifications of the shuttle. The tricorder readings were somewhat redundant but would provide conformation for targeting. “The advantage the transporter logs provide is the level of detail. If she modified other components, changed programs or tried to shift things out of phase we should be able to see it.”

Bethany sat back and watched. And sure enough there were a couple of out of phase components that had to be disabled first before removing the power core. As well as triple redundancies. Forget just one extra, there were two extras of everything. Bethany shook her head looking as Reed examined the data. And some kind of weird locking device that allowed the system to be transported with the shuttle, but stopped it from being transported alone by itself. Transport would only work if the whole shuttle went in and came out. “I would never…of course that was her point.”

“That’s the point, you have a different specialty and she knows it. But that skill set combined with mine not only gives us a chance here but also a chance to tweak her nose.” The grin on his face was ecstatic.” What do you say we beam the whole ship away and rematerialize it as her designers intended. Then if it works you can plot your revenge.”

Bethany nodded, “Sounds good to me.” She got up and replaced the panels, powered down the systems and grabbed their equipment. She stepped off the shuttle and closed and locked the hatch. She stepped out of the caution area and out of the way. “Do your magic Mr. Reed.”

Again looking like a Sorcerer from an old holo-vid Stores use the vertural work space to energize the cargo transporters, holding the pattern wile the offending components were either removed or modified to their proper specifications. With a final scan to ensure their were no replication viruses in the pattern the shuttle rematerialized, hopefully as good as new.

Bethany looked at the shuttle. She really didn’t think it would be that easy. “Computer access Athena controls and open cargo hatch.” She heard the computer whirring and then nothing. SHUTTLE ATHENA REQUIRES BIOMETRICS READING. Bethany tried her override code, but still the shuttle insisted on the biometrics. “Oh I don’t like this. I should have left it alone.” She walked over and tentativly laid a hand on the cargo hatch door, where she should have been shocked–and nothing. She laid her hand on the biometrics pad and the hatch opened. She stepped into the shuttle and the screens popped to life, startling her and she placed a hand on the exterior bulkhead by the door – and a snap/sizzle was heard and then cursing. The face on the screen laughed. “Not that easy, Lass, not that easy. You need this system, now stop trying to take it out.” Bethany groaned and sat down with the tricorder again taking more scans. This time nothing was phased but those strange little locks were still there.

“Oh I like your friend, is she single?” The merriment at the counselors plite was evident. “Replication viruses are an old Romulan trick. This is a new twist. I really want to know how that was dun.” Eyeing the scans as well as scrolling threw the new and old transport logs he searched for the tail tail sighs of the pattern corruption that recreated those components. “She is quite good.”

Bethany laughed, despite the pain in her hand. “Yes, she is.” The idea was comical to Bethany but also sad. F’actar’s personal life was a Shakespearean tragedy. “She wasn’t the ops officer on Recon Alpha for nothing. But if you like I’ll get you her number.” Bethany laughed. If Reed could disable it on his own F’actar would probably invite him to Norda to talk shop. The transport logs would take a keen eye to find it. It was a modulating frequency that never repeated and changed fast. Much how shields and weapons were modified for the Borg.

Stores had been scanning the shuttle as Lieutenant Gadi stepped in, “ I don’t know the how yet, but I think I know the what. Your friend is using formed forcefields, you said she fought the Borg?” Will running the specifications of the odd tumbler like components threw the data base he reached for his left cargo pocket, and finding it not their. “ Gods rotted lame brained uniform!” He quickly typed in a request to have a tool kit replicated and transported to him.

Bethany nodded, “Yes, she was quite good at driving them crazy before she blew them up.” Bethany looks over at his frustration. “Have you considered a combat style unifrom? Lots of pockets and loops for gear.” Gadi watches the flucuations and shakes her head. “Just about the time I think I’ve got the pattern down it seems to change, but it keeps going at the same time.” She looks, “Look there’s another one.”

Looking over the work that the Counselor had done “ That looks familiar, ah she has used the shifting field modulation developed to combat the Borg as to her replicator virus. Nice.”

“I told you, she’s bloody brilliant and scary at the same time.” Bethany said. She obviously both adored the woman and respected her a great deal.

Having received a confidentiality warning Stores snorts. “ I have standing orders to not hack security features unless it’s life and death for ship or crew, do you mind opening this file?”

“If we don’t get this thing out, it will be life or death for the idiots touching my shuttle.” Bethany looked at the file and pulled it up on her PaDD. She sat down and began working on it. She tried her codes first, and they didn’t work. She sighed, hacking wasn’t her thing, but she had a little skill. She worked for several minutes and then groaned. She tried to type the ‘password’ in but the system wouldn’t take. Verbal identification was needed. “I really really don’t like her right now.” Bethany tried to override the verbal command to no avail. With as much composure and lack of embarrassment as she could must, “I’d trade all the chocolate for him.” It was absurd and F’actar had a cruel streak in her. But the verbal recognition worked. She passed the PaDD back to Reed.

“Seems the Federation has advance some in its study of Borg tech. The Chief would have probably recognized it right off.” Scrolling down the specks he saw that it was susceptible to a modulated nadion beam. “And Mayson could probably build one, he is the sneakiest tech on the ship.” The admiration for his crew and the problem he had Jenn presented was already in his tone.

“ Here use this to open the field so we can work.” Handing her a tool consisting of 4 small modules with self replicating scaffolding designed to breach containment fields for maintenance threw the aperture.

Wile the counselor opens a hole in the forcefield, Stores pulled out his Phasor and adjusted it to the needed frequency.
