“I am tired of being bit.” She grumbled, but quickly and silently laughed at herself. “I should have known better. Honestly it’s a brilliant security system, but it has no place here.” She looks the shuttle over. “If you can get it out of her, by all means. Engineering is NOT my forte.” She pulled up the schmatics again, looking it over. She KNEW that was the main power relay for the system and it didn’t power anything else. She just had to figure out how to get it out without frying herself to a crisp.

“Got a Tricorder?” A simple question wile he pulled up the ship’s specs and the transporter lots of moving her. It would take a few minuets for the computer to compare the ‘should be with the is’ of the situation the company was pleasant.

“So tell me about your friend.”

Bethany dug under the side control console for the tricorder she’d been using earlier. Finally pulling it out, she handed it to Reed. “Hmmm…now that’s an interesting question. She’s a science officer with way too much technological know how. She’s a throw back to the Borg wars. She was,” oh this was hard. She didn’t know how much of the information was classified. Well it was the Borg and recon was dissolved and declassified years ago. “She was part of a team responsible for taking out 4 different Borg ships. She’s inventive, and has that wicked Klingon humor supported by scary Vulcan logic. And if you are familiar with the history of Dresden, her files should still be here. Lt. Cmdr. F’actar, CSO. She was on the Dresden when they went to the delta quadrant to bring Voyager back.” (OOC: Yes she really was that was a sim we played out once!)

Stores shook his head, indicating the WTR-600 at his hip, the single monocle having been replaced buy the glasses he wore. “That’s for you, grab a PADD and sinc them and we will begin.”

With a few deft commands he mirrored the tricorder so he could fallow along.

Bethany grabbed a PaDD out of the small storage locker beside her and then sat down. Reed was going to show her how to do it. YES! Bethany was always up for learning new tricks. She synced the PaDD and tricorder up with a few taps and was ready to go. “Alright teacher man, show me your wisdom.”

“Wile you get us a good solid scan of the modifications I am going to link you to the transporter logs and the ship’s original specs. Then we are going to combine the information and see how to remove the security system.”

As he watched he continued the lesson. “Transporter, and buy extension replicators are on if the foundation technologies that the modern Federation stands on.”

The scans were the final piece of the puzzle he needed. “We use transporters to disable weapons, screen for infectious organisms, perform delicate surgeries and fabricate starships.”

“And hopefully remove after market hardware.”

Bethany nodded as he talked. She knew that of course, but only in theory. She didn’t really know how they worked. “She’s probably thought of that.” Bethany had to remove a couple panels she had already put back in place and then took a complete scan of the systems hardware. When she was done she sat back down and handed the PaDD with the scans to Reed after looking at them herself. It was all latin to her.

Tapping the side of his glasses,”No need. I assume she has to, so we are going to go at it the other way around. We know that their is nothing keeping us from transporting the component as we transported the ship. Normally I would first attempt to transport out the component. But I assume it’s embedded and the old term ‘two is one, one is none is something that every operator I have ever met lived buy.” Stores hummed as he manipulated the scans from the transporter, and compared them to the original specifications of the shuttle. The tricorder readings were somewhat redundant but would provide conformation for targeting. “The advantage the transporter logs provide is the level of detail. If she modified other components, changed programs or tried to shift things out of phase we should be able to see it.”

Bethany sat back and watched. And sure enough there were a couple of out of phase components that had to be disabled first before removing the power core. As well as triple redundancies. Forget just one extra, there were two extras of everything. Bethany shook her head looking as Reed examined the data. And some kind of weird locking device that allowed the system to be transported with the shuttle, but stopped it from being transported alone by itself. Transport would only work if the whole shuttle went in and came out. “I would never…of course that was her point.”

“That’s the point, you have a different specialty and she knows it. But that skill set combined with mine not only gives us a chance here but also a chance to tweak her nose.” The grin on his face was ecstatic.” What do you say we beam the whole ship away and rematerialize it as her designers intended. Then if it works you can plot your revenge.”

Bethany nodded, “Sounds good to me.” She got up and replaced the panels, powered down the systems and grabbed their equipment. She stepped off the shuttle and closed and locked the hatch. She stepped out of the caution area and out of the way. “Do your magic Mr. Reed.”

Again looking like a Sorcerer from an old holo-vid Stores use the vertural work space to energize the cargo transporters, holding the pattern wile the offending components were either removed or modified to their proper specifications. With a final scan to ensure their were no replication viruses in the pattern the shuttle rematerialized, hopefully as good as new.

Bethany looked at the shuttle. She really didn’t think it would be that easy. “Computer access Athena controls and open cargo hatch.” She heard the computer whirring and then nothing. SHUTTLE ATHENA REQUIRES BIOMETRICS READING. Bethany tried her override code, but still the shuttle insisted on the biometrics. “Oh I don’t like this. I should have left it alone.” She walked over and tentativly laid a hand on the cargo hatch door, where she should have been shocked–and nothing. She laid her hand on the biometrics pad and the hatch opened. She stepped into the shuttle and the screens popped to life, startling her and she placed a hand on the exterior bulkhead by the door – and a snap/sizzle was heard and then cursing. The face on the screen laughed. “Not that easy, Lass, not that easy. You need this system, now stop trying to take it out.” Bethany groaned and sat down with the tricorder again taking more scans. This time nothing was phased but those strange little locks were still there.
