She nodded, “I’m due to meet with her first thing tomorrow. Good to know she is thought highly of. It would be a little scary if the crew didn’t trust the doctor.” She notices the blush but doesn’t comment. Every crew needs it personal relationships. Hopefully there wouldn’t be a need for her mediate any of them. Happy endings and all that fluff.“Oh don’t worry. I promise not to notice the mess. She appreciated the sentiment, but apparently going from intel counselor to ship’s CNS would take more. If the CO and XO couldn’t accept her, neither would the crew. Bethany was really starting to wonder if she should question her decision. “Loyalty is never anything I’ve had a problem with.” Not to mention if she was disloyal to Dresden, T’Jal, Jake, and F’actar would hang her by her toenails and do only who knew what else. But Bethany had a wickedly unbendable loyalty when it came to the crews she worked with. Then his words really registered, “In irons? There has to be a story there, that I would love to hear.”
Lt. Gadi, CNS“I will fill you in i promise, but the crib notes version is that sometime I open my mouth and my mother comes out. Waiting on her to step in to the lift, “last chance, my office or the mess?”
Clinton”Stores”Reed, Supercargo
She laughed, “I understand that problem. My mother is a redheaded Irish woman.” She stepped onto the lift, “I guess the mess. As you said, let the crew get a look at me. I’m sure those crewmen are telling all kind of tales about my shuttle.” She laughs wickedly at the thought. “They can look and I’ll glare back.” After the lift stopped at the correct deck, Bethany stepped off and followed Reed down the corridor to the lounge. Upon first glance it looked like any other standard star fleet lounge.
Lt. Gadi, CNSBeing mid shift the traffic in the Mess was light, but never empty, most of the crew here offered some acknowledgement of Stores presence, some verbal others a nod or a lifted fork or drink. Waved, or spoke as appropriately from one of the tables with medical blue came a call of “Wait till Javier finds out your two timing her, Stores” to with general laughter erupted. Stores blushed full crimson but managed to retort “I know were you sleep Johansson!” With was met with more laughter.
“Sorry about that, but this is home.” As he walked to the replicator to fetch a fresh carafe and another cup. “Were would you like to sit?”
Clinton”Stores”Reed, Supercargo
Reed was obviously well liked. She felt slightly bad about the good natured ribbing, but he was the one who suggested the mess hall. She looked over at Johansson, and then at Reed. “I’d be happy to know where he sleeps. Wanna tell me?” She said it just loud enough that Johansson wouldn’t know if that was a good thing or a bad thing for himself. Bethany looked him over again and smirked. She moved over to a table in the middle of the room and sat down. “Don’t worry about it. They obviously respect you. If they didn’t they would mess with you.” She took the offered cup after he poured the coffee. She sipped it while it was still hot. “Not too bad.”
Lt. Gadi, CNS“Na it’s alright, it’s a long running joke and if I didn’t have feelings for the Doctor it wouldn’t be half as funny.” Stores said over the top of his coffee wile slipping the HUD to the top of his head.
The coffee in fact was pretty good, not the same ‘perfect nutritionally balanced’ cup one expected from a replicator. Some one had tweaked the settings.
“ I figured being seen drinking coffee with you would get around the ship and buy you a bit of good will, and a shrink can always use a bit of ‘humanizing’.” The old spacers grin lit up his face.
Clinton”Stores”Reed, Supercargo
Bethany nodded in understanding. Reed seemed like a good guy. That’s why the guys were giving him a hard time. She shrugged, honestly she’d never had time for that. She’d been moved from place to place to do her work. There was attraction, but never time for more. There had been between two other members of her team, but the work and been hard and it had ended. At first it had been very hard for both of them and then it spread to the rest of the team. They had all worked through it eventually. But the dynamic had changed subtlety. She took another sip of the coffee. “Someone’s altered the program, and I am eternally grateful for that.” She glanced around again. Habit making her take note of who sat where, with whom, and what they were doing. Observation was a counselor’s first tool. “Ah,” she nodded in acknowledgement. “Counselors can never do with too much humanizing. I appreciate the sacrifice to your reputation. You never know, it might back fire and they’ll think I’ve brain washed you or some such nonsense.” Bethany laughs at her own expense. “So how did an old spacer like you end up with Star Fleet? If you don’t mind me asking? And before you ask, I haven’t looked at the crew manifest in detail. I can tell from the way you move about the ship. Comes form a lifetime in space.”
Lt. Gadi, CNS
Stores set back and chuckled, “Got to have a brain first, Doc.” Taping the side of his head. “And you can’t do anything but elevate my reputation dear lady.” But at the question about his past his expression turned melancholy. “The War…”
Leaning forward and taking a firm double handed grip on his cup. “ I crossed deck from the Merchant Marine after we lost the Tartuga and our escort, The Vigilance picked me up and served with her till they decommissioned her.” He left out the fact that the Tartuga was a family ship and that he had spent three days in an EVA suit in her hulk.
‘The War’ had destroyed a lot lives, and just not by death. There were times that Bethany felt woefully young to counsels those who had lived through it. But Bethany was good at what she did for a reason. An uncanny ability to read a person. Her empathy was an extremely useful tool, but she didn’t need it. Bethany was also descret. The lounge wasn’t the place to pull at old hurts. She’d seen vids of ships destroyed and the rescues of those who survived. Reed was one of the lucky ones, but she wasn’t crass enough to say that out loud. She sipped at her coffee slowly, some times words were needed, and some times silence was better.
“After I got into trouble on Base one five two my old CO pulled some strings and got me a berth on Dresden.” There was pain in his eyes evident but it was well worn, tho newer pain was evident.
Clinton”Stores”Reed, Supercargo
“Well apparently whatever the trouble was, wasn’t too bad. You aren’t in the brig and the crew likes you, and that’s no small statement towards yourself. Sometimes fancy to-dos get their panties in a wad and throw tantrums.”
Lt. Gadi, CNS
Stores started laughing, “Dock side brawls with Andorran merchant Captains dose tend to do that.” Shaking his head. “But we are out side office hours, so don’t let me hog all the lime light. What Is Lieutenant Gadi’s story?
