(snip)“Well I think I’m going to erect it anyway, just to keep the lookie lues away. The deck apes made a game of it and got themselves hurt.” The diagnostic showed a pattern of longer and longer contacts until finally multiple and prolonged final contact. The pattern looked like three people were playing chicken. “ If you don’t mind helping me lay down the cation tape I would appreciate it.”
As Stores spoke the force field pillions, his uniform top and an insulated carafe was clearly visible on one of the grave pallets. It was also clear that the Shuttle was expertly chocked and anchored to the deck.

The computer beeped and Bethany looked over at the results. “Good lords. That’s what warnings are for. What are they, cadets still in the academy?” She watched the feed and winced as the first one went down and then she shook her head. “They deserved it.” She steps out and takes the caution tape from him and begins to pull off a starter strip and lays it to the ground. “The program was installed by a friend, as a joke. I tried to remove it in flight, but it was more work than could be done while she was in flight.” She felt bad for the Lt. People had to act like children and he had to deal with. She noticed the care he had taken with the shuttle and she was grateful. “Thank you for taking care of her. She’s not much, but she’s mine.”
Lt. Gadi, CNS“Anything worth doing m’am, recently bought a ship of my own so I understand.” Deftly huaning his end of the tape it wasn’t a minuets work. “Care to help with the emitters?” They were bog standard hazard barriers designed to keep people from wondering into hazardous work spaces. Beside the carafe was an old style watch cup with dregs of coffee in it.

Bethany took a couple of the emitters from him and walked around the other side of the shuttle putting them in place. She waited to turn them on. She had to get back into the shuttle to turn the system off. Knowing her ‘friend’ she’d have to uninstall the entire physical system as well. She glanced over at the carafe and coffee cup. “When I’m done here, Lt. let me buy you a cup of fresh coffee. It’s the least I can do for all the trouble you’ve had to go through.”
Lt. Gadi, CNS“ I will gladly take coffee with you, but it isn’t really a bother. I have been managing cargo most my life. “ Stores appeared around the corner with a big grin, “People, how ever that can be a PITA.” Reaching over for his tunic and coffee kit he waved toward the door.” After you.”

Bethany turned back to the shuttle uncertainly. She walked over, grabbed her PaDD and then had a though. She went into the main control panel. She put the shuttle in to repair mode. That allowed her to turn the security system off for 2 hours. She exited and locked the shuttle up. She waited for Reed to set the force field. “Two hours can go quick. It will take me all night to remove that system.” She headed out the door. “So I have no idea where the best place to get coffee on this ship is.”
Lt. Gadi, CNS“Any replicator, ask for ‘Issac’s brew’. Just don’t abuse it or Elaine will have my ears.” Stores winked. “Mess if you want to be part of the crew, or the lounge if you wish for a more upper decks vibe. But if you want the full experience, fresh ground and brewed go see the chief of security himself.”
Clinton”Stores” Reed, Supercargo
“Who’s Elaine? That way I know who to avoid when she comes asking.” Thinking over her introduction to the captain and commander, she wasn’t sure she was eager to meet the security chief who would probably take issue with her as well. “Not really feeling the upper decks right now. Where’s the nearest replicator? And when I get set up I’ll brew you good coffee. You can tell me if it’s better than the chief’s.” Bethany followed Reed down the corridor her mind running over the problem of her shuttle, her awkward position on board, and the huge amount of work ahead of her. “Any advice for a newbie?”
Lt. Gadi, CNS“My office I guess, it’s a mess tho. I just got settled in to the quartermaster’s office when I was asked to take over Operations. So let’s just hit the Mess. Let the crew get a good look at you.” After a few strides. “Elaine is the Chief Medical Officer, good People.” From the blush it was clear he had a bit of a crush. “As to advice, be honest, do your job best you can, and be Loyal to ship and crew. If I can go from displaced civilian coming a aboard in irons to Operations Chief, you will no problems.” It was obvious from his rolling gate and eye for the hand holds that he grew up on ships with low quality inertia dampers and grave plates. Stores was born and bread in space and it showed. As he picked up pace to clear long corridors a wile slowing down for the close spaces.

She nodded, “I’m due to meet with her first thing tomorrow. Good to know she is thought highly of. It would be a little scary if the crew didn’t trust the doctor.” She notices the blush but doesn’t comment. Every crew needs it personal relationships. Hopefully there wouldn’t be a need for her mediate any of them. Happy endings and all that fluff.
“Oh don’t worry. I promise not to notice the mess. She appreciated the sentiment, but apparently going from intel counselor to ship’s CNS would take more. If the CO and XO couldn’t accept her, neither would the crew. Bethany was really starting to wonder if she should question her decision. “Loyalty is never anything I’ve had a problem with.” Not to mention if she was disloyal to Dresden, T’Jal, Jake, and F’actar would hang her by her toenails and do only who knew what else. But Bethany had a wickedly unbendable loyalty when it came to the crews she worked with. Then his words really registered, “In irons? There has to be a story there, that I would love to hear.”
Lt. Gadi, CNS
“I will fill you in i promise, but the crib notes version is that sometime I open my mouth and my mother comes out. Waiting on her to step in to the lift, “last chance, my office or the mess?”
