Bethany had been moving from assignment to assignment for awhile, years actually. She enjoyed the work and her role in the bigger picture. She was ready for a change though. She loved being with Intel and she didn’t want to leave, but she was ready for something different. She spent a lot of time on easy pre-gathering missions and then on helping to debrief other operatives. She was good at what she did and she…well to say she liked the work made it sound like she was a psychological mad scientist. She’d always wanted to work with a ship’s crew though. She had the skills, but not the experience to be a ship’s Intel officer. Her skill set had prevented her from being sent on the more intense missions. She’d joined expecting it to be high adventure all the time. What she discovered was a department that was much more complex and fulfilling than that. She’d found her stride and her place and she excelled at it.She had NOT been expecting to be given the CNS position on the USS Dresden. So now she was in her shuttle leaving Norda III after having visited her mentor. Retired Admiral T’Jal had been the CNS of the Dresden, A, and B. She’d also been the captain at one point. Her husband Jake Smith had been XO, CO, and COO. When she had received the news of her new assignment, she’d taken some leave time to go visit T’Jal and tell her in person where her new duty assignment had been.
T’Jal was a half Vulcan, half Human, that enjoyed her Irish heritage a lot more than the logic of being Vulcan. She had a love of life and a temper to prove it too. She was fond of reminding Bethany (and her other proteges as well) that she might be old, but she’d still kick their butt’s all over the Nordan landscape. The first night she was there, they had spent the entire night at the Clearing of Remembrance. Even F’actar came. T’Jal’s best friend, Recon Alpha XO, and the previous CSO of Dresden. Bethany had listened fascinated as they talked about their time on board. The hardest was to listen to T’Jal talk about infiltrating a Borg copy of the Dresden to rescue not only Jake but his Borg created clone as well. The clone had sacrificed himself to save her life, and then the real Jake, her husband, had to be de-assimilated. And that wasn’t the only time Jake had been presumed dead. Bethany didn’t know how they did it, over and over. She felt extremely lucky to train under someone so skilled.
She’d spent several days with T’Jal and Jake. Then she had gathered her gear and got back in her shuttle and headed out to meet the Dresden. One day out, she got notice that the Dresden was shipped out early. She’d have to meet up with them on their way rather than the star-base. She adjusted her course and a day later she came Maverick class warship. She didn’t care what anyone said. Dresden was a warship. =^=Shuttle Athena to USS Dresden. Requesting permission to dock in the shuttle bay. This is Lt. Bethany Gadi, the new ship’s CNS.=^= along with the hail she transmitted her orders and identification codes.
Lt. Gadi, CNS-=^= Dresden Coms acknowledged, Shuttle Athena standby for Dresden control
=^=The Dresden’s flight control officer came online with just a slight delay.
=^= Shuttle Athena this is Dresden control, be advised we have CAP deployed. Come to heading 314 for shuttle bay two. Do you need assisted recovery?=^==^=Acknowledged Dresden, coming about to 314. I appreciate the offer, but assisted recovery is not needed.=^= There is a hint of laughter to the pilot’s answer.
The Dresden hung in the dark lite buy only her running lights and the glow of her nacelles.
As the shuttle came about to match course a fighter slid into view for visual identification as her wing slid in high and to the rear. Satisfied they accelerated away.Bethany got her first good look of Dresden as she hung almost suspended in space. As the fighters moved around her shuttle, close enough to actually see their faces, she passed a cheeky salute to them.
=^= Standby to give us access to your systems-=^= the unsaid warning, they had no intention of dropping their shields during the landing operations.
Bethany keyed in the clearance code that would allow Athena to be auto piloted into the shuttle bay. Her Intel commander had given her a trick to stop the flight control deck from bringing her in manually, just for fun he had said. But she’d already looked at the crew manifest and she had no intention of setting of the powder keg that was this crew had the potential of becoming. There was plenty of time for that later. Bethany chuckled and threaded her fingers behind her head and leaned back in the pilot’s seat seemingly undisturbed by the fighter escort and lack of control of her own personal shuttle.
Threading the turbulence created buy the impulse drives was always a tense moment, but honestly it was more hype than reality. As the shuttle bay doors begins to open their is a bump and a low vibration the Athena slips threw the Dresden’s shields and then into the waiting bay.
Bethany rolled her eyes, really they could have done that more smoothly. She assumed it was for her benefit. First impressions and all that.
As the shuttle settles into the indicated landing zone suited crew come out from their protected revetments to secure the shuttle, then later they will move her to the elevators and on to her berth.
=^= welcome to the Dresden, Athena. Control out.=^=
=^=Thank you, Control. Athena out.=^= Bethany waited for the shuttle to settle into the designated spot and then she began the power down sequence. Once powered down and her ‘security’ system set, she stood picked up her bag and the all important iso chip with her orders. She saw the crew begin to swarm her and Athena and she chuckled. She stepped to the back of the shuttle, and using her palm print she opened the door. It hissed and release of pressurized air released as the cargo hatch raised. She looked around for the head of the crew and beckoned him over. “You’re in charge of moving her to her berth?”
The crewman snorted, “Yes ma’am. We’ll take care of her, not a scratch, the crew is very good at what they do.” He’d obviously given the ‘speech’ to many a protective pilot and was weary of it.
Bethany chuckled, “Crewman take a good look at her. There are so many scratches, I wouldn’t notice a new one. I want to make sure her security system doesn’t zap you into a visit to sickbay. Watch your hands and don’t touch the hull till we get the biometrics set.” The crewman rolled his eyes, perfectly sure that it wouldn’t happen. To call the Lt.’s bluff he laid a palm against the hull as he casually leaned against the entrance. Bethany shook her head, always with the disbelief, ....AND.....the sizzle of an electric zap was heard and a moment later the crewman yelped. It would have been worse if her hand wasn’t still on the biometric interface inside. She simply raised a brow and waited. With a rueful shake of his head the crewman entered the shuttle. It took two quick minutes and Bethany had the crewman’s biometrics registered to the Athena. “Have a good day.” She laughed as she stepped off of her shuttle.
Stores watched the landing operation from the airlock with the security officer who would be verifying the new counselor’s ID, thus clearing the way for the Dresden to recognize her as crew. Pulling his tunic front down he turned to the officer beside him “Do I have this thing on right?”
Clinton”Stores”Reed, Supercargo
Bethany’s observation skills identified Reed and the security officer waiting for her. Even from the distance she picked up the words and gave him an once over inspection as she walked over, “Looks like it’s on right to me, Lt.” She passed the iso chip the security officer and held her hand out to the Lt. “Lt. Bethany Gadi reporting as ordered.” The security officer would pauses showing her orders to Reed, new ship’s CNS, from the counseling office of Star Fleet Intelligence.
Lt. Gadi, CNS
The newly minted lieutenant junior grade looked decidedly uncomfortable in his uniform. “Stores, Er Reed M’am.” The middle aged man shook her hand, his uniform didn’t look quite right, after a moment it was the brown under tunic instead of the expected Operations gold.
Under the three day stubble it was clear that his face and hands had been extensively regenerated. “Welcome to the Dresden.”
