“Deck 23” Cadet Foster called out when he entered the turbolift. Nicholas was surprised to learn he’d be continuing his studies on the USS Chimera, the ship that visited the Andromeda Galaxy a few years back. While the Captain should already know of his arrival, Cadet Foster made sure to bring his transfer orders with him to report in.

It wasn’t long before the lift stopped and opened at his destination. Nick didn’t have the entire layout of the ship memorized just yet so he had to read the door labels as he walked past them. Nerves were really never a problem for Cadet Foster. Even if they were, he always showed a calm composure on the outside.

“Ah here it is.” Foster said to himself when he finally found the Captain’s Ready Room. Nicholas pressed the chime to the door and waited to be called in.

The response from inside the ready room was swift and instructive. The door slid open, punctuating the entrance command.

The ready room was minimally decorated, but still managed to lend a slight personal air to the space, much of the effects centered around the various Federation craft that Katelyn had flown throughout her career. A trio of models of Starfleet vessels adorned one shelf, commemorating the three ships that she had commanded. Beside them, a framed photo sat, the image of a slightly younger version of the part-Betazoid dressed in a red-trimmed uniform with her arms wrapped around an attractive, athletic man in a similarly adorned uniform.

Katelyn sat behind her desk, her posture confident but not rigid. Her black curls were mostly confined in a high ponytail, although tendrils had escaped to frame her fairly youthful appearance. She had the inky black eyes of her Betazoid heritage and they soon rested on the new arrival to her ready room. A quick glance at the pips on Foster’s collar and she queried, “how can I help you, Cadet?”

“Cadet Nicholas Foster reporting in, ma’am.” Cadet Foster announced as he stepped into the Ready Room. The Cadet paused for a moment to take in his surroundings. The room had a homely feel to it, after all, it was the Captain’s home away from home. The CO would be able to sense that Nick was slightly nervous when he came into the Ready Room, but a sense of excitement would be more prominent.

“I’ve been assigned to continue my studies aboard the USS Chimera.” Cadet Foster said as he extended his transfer orders to the Fleet Captain. ” Cultural Intelligence and Starship Navigation are my studies,” Nicholas added.

As Foster paused to take in his surroundings, Katelyn unabashedly spent the time glancing over the cadet who stood in front of her. She smiled slightly as she felt his excitement at reporting on the ship; she could barely remember being that young and enthused at this point. She waved him in to the chair in front of her desk as she reached out to accept the transfer orders, glancing at them briefly to ensure they looked right but trusting that the affairs were in order. “How has your time at the Academy been so far?” she asked, with genuine interest.

“More than I expected, ma’am.” Cadet Foster said as he took a seat.” But, I mean that in a good way.” Nicholas found himself a bit more relaxed now that his feelings of nervousness left him. “I was a bit surprised that the Academy posted me to the Chimera for my last year, but I found out they’ve assigned a good amount of us to various starships for our senior year.” The Cadet exclaimed.

Katelyn pondered the wisdom of Starfleet in doing that, but then offered a nonchalant shrug. “This is quite the starship to be posted to,” she commented with a grin. “Before I send you on your way for a medical evaluation and to check in with your superior, do you have any questions for me about the Chimera or shipboard life?”
