“Takes one to know one,” Katelyn retorted, reaching out first for the glass of Scotch and taking a healthy swig before returning it to the table in front of her and picking up a fork. She stabbed a single piece of lettuce and inserted it into her mouth, chewing for far longer and slower than necessary for it before putting her fork down with a clatter. She took another gulp of the Scotch before leaning back in her chair, crossing her arms in front of her chest as she studied the CMO as he tore into his sandwich.Jacobs, CO
“Pffft, transference much.” He retorted and kept eating, after some minutes he said “what?” With his mouth still full of food. He studied her then looked at her fork.

MDKatelyn mimed a pig eating at a trough in response to his mouth-stuffed “what?” and then rolled her eyes, her crossed arms uncrossing momentarily to reach for her beverage again and then returning to their defensive position. At least he couldn’t talk much while he was shoveling food in.

Ryley ignored her and ate quietly for a bit. As he finally came up for air he considered her. “So,…” he said in an awkward sort of way. “Not hungry?” He asked nodding at the salad.
Ryley
MDKatelyn frowned at the salad and shrugged non-commitally. She wasn’t about to admit to her new CMO how little of an appetite she had these days, especially given the stubborn way he had handled their interaction so far. He didn’t need another thing to chomp on. “What have you been up to since you left the Atlantis?” she asked quickly, obediently stabbing a piece of lettuce again and shoving it into her mouth to ward off any further questions about the status of her hunger.

Ryley observed her quietly a moment, “so you want me to spill my guts to you but won’t admit out loud that you’ve literally no appetite and are drowning your sorrows in booze rather than eat food?” He raised both eyebrows and thought a moment then nodded. “Kool.” He chewed and took a drink. “I was researching, took a ride with some....shall we say suspect characters.” He gave her a look before continuing. “…went to OedV…and I saw my son,” He again took a bite of food. Chewed, swallowed. “…and met with an old friend…he wanted to see some more stars and he was on a time limit. Never been outside federation space so what’s where we went, I was on my way back when you rounded me up.”

MDThe Betazoid only offered an eye roll as a response, although she was briefly set off balance by his observation. She played with another piece of her salad with her fork idly as she tried to reign in control of her emotions, only partially listening to Ryley’s story of where he had spent the last portion of time. “How was your son?” she finally asked, desperate to keep the conversation focused on the CMO for the moment.

Ryley’s gaze dropped to his food for a moment, ”He seems fine. He’s 10. Looks happy anyway.” he said evenly and held up a french fry, pointing it at her he added. ”You remembering not the resident shrink.”
Ryley
MD“How did you end up with a son given your… congeniality?” Katelyn questioned again, shoveling another bite of salad into her mouth as the line of questioning distracted her from her lack of an appetite. With lightning quick reflexes that belied her previous career as a pilot, she snatched the fry out of Ryley’s hand and inserted it in her mouth after she finished her bite, one arched eyebrow daring him to comment on it.

Ryley simply raised his eyebrows. “Quick little dickens aren’t you, I’ll need to make a note of that for future reference.” In answer to her question he simply took a drink and answered stoically. “ She suffered from abasiophilia. It’s is a psychosexual condition that causes sufferers to feel attraction to people with impaired mobility, especially those who use orthopaedic appliances such as leg braces, orthopedic casts, wheelchairs or canes.” He held his up as if displaying exhibit A.

Katelyn smirked at his comment. “I’m pretty sure that’s already written several times in my service record, perhaps with some sparkly gold stars around it for emphasis.” She began to reach for her glass of alcohol, but quickly diverted the motion for a glass of water that sat nearby instead, taking a healthy sip. This proved to be dangerous given the doctor’s response and she had to close her eyes and visibly concentrate on swallowing the liquid so that she didn’t choke. “Well, if that’s what you have to go for to get some action…” she commented with a slight cough, although it was obvious that he wasn’t being serious. “Never really been my thing, though.”
