As she completed her comm call, Katelyn smirked slightly as she overheard Eleanor. Pilots never changed, she thought to herself.

=^= I will give you a sit rep on the shields as soon as I can, Captain. In the meantime does Ranger have any probes you can fire out? =^=

=/\= Let me find out… =/\= Katelyn responded, slightly annoyed with herself for not knowing the immediate answer to that. She had forced herself to be fairly hands off with the air group; otherwise she knew that she’d have her nose stuck where it didn’t belong.

When she felt she was not interrupting the comm calls between the carrier’s Command team, Carnegie spoke again. “The hangar bay doors are open, Captain. That’s why we can pick up the warp bubble and the force field. Now… I am not sure…” Eleanor’s voice trailed off as she tapped her console, trying to figure out whether it was possible to pinpoint whether the forcefield they were picking up was the one generated by the Chimera’s shields, or by something else.

Finally, examining the force field and the warp bubble again, Eleanor noticed the unusual aspect of the frequency of both fields around the large carrier. “This is… weird.. The amplitude of the warp field is twice what it should be… almost as if there are two fields superimposed…” She commented out loud. Tapping yet more commands, Carnegie tried to use the Ranger’s powerful sensor suite to make a better image of the warp field outside.

CPT. Carnegie, Recon Squad CO

Katelyn nodded, having noticed the open bay doors when she’d entered the hanger. “It’s not ideal, but yes, that’s exactly what I’m suggesting,” she observed with a wry grin. Noticing that the pilot seemed distracted, Katelyn resisted the urge to peer over her shoulder and merely leaned to take a peek at the console she was operating. “That is weird,” she murmured, more to herself than to Carnegie.

The continued scans mostly just confirmed the amplitude increase of the warp field. The Chimera was ‘producing’ a single warp field at an amplitude half of what was currently being seen - the logical reason was something outside of the Chimera was causing an increase, but that reason wasn’t being detected by a straight scan… (specifics on what you are looking for might help).

The pilot’s scans and the incoming results had momentarily distracted her from the XO’s request. “Do you have probes on board?” she questioned quickly before they delved too deeply into the results.

Taking her eyes momentarily from the console in front of her she nodded to the Chimera’s CO. “Yes, of course. How many do you need?”

If the recon craft didn’t (and I presume it has at least a couple) the Chimera has dozens.

=^= Captain. The group at the computer core has determined that we impacted a bubble of energy 100 meters long and half that high. I’ve inquired on whether that may have been another vessel in a warp field. I thought a probe fired out would initially be safer and yield some preliminary information before Ranger and you stepped out. =^= He paused. =^= I have the files on the sensor records and will forward them to you. Is the CSO still with you to look at them? =^=

“That would explain the double amplitude on the warp field readings…” Carnegie said, partly to herself, partly to the Captain. “But if it was produced by a ship, where is that ship now?”

Turning back to her console, Eleanor tried to check whether the sensors could pick up any sort of object outside, although she very much doubt it. If they wanted to extend their sensor range fully outside of the Chimera, the Ranger needed to be outside of the ship.

Starfleet sensors were designed to penetrate the warp bubble without issue, but for some reason the sensors were having a difficult time crossing the barrier. However when the scans finally cleared up enough there was no evidence of anything aside from ‘normal’ space outside the warp bubble.

“That’s a very good question,” Katelyn responded, looking out the hanger bay door with a sigh. There was nothing more she hated than having to sit back and wait for other people to fix things, especially when it came to the level that the Chimera was suffering. Remembering the XO, she tapped her comm badge:

As she waited for the CSO to return her comm call, Katelyn called out again:

=/\= Jacobs to Sutret. Have you made any progress with the computer core? Is there any way you can get our shields down? I have an idea of how to beam this craft out of the Chimera to give us eyes and ears, but I’d need the shields down to make it feasible. =/\=

=^= Captain, I don’t recommend lowering the shields right now. Currently they are all that is keeping us from crushed like a can of syto beans. We are running some calculations to see what we can do in the meantime though. =^=

Katelyn cursed audibly again and then slumped back in the chair she occupied with a noisy sigh. Well, there went that idea…

Her voice was clearly annoyed, although hopefully the CE would realize that was more at the situation than her in particular.
