Humanoids are, on the whole, nothing if not adaptable. One’s life could change beyond recognition in the blink of an eye but most often it would be accepted as the way of things in a matter of days. And so it was for Mirai Nakuto. Barely a month prior she had been back on Qo’nos, tending to her dying father and, less willingly, to the domestic chores required around his house. Her grief at his passing remained unresolved, a psychic vulture at her shoulder, biding its time until the first sign of mental weakness gave an opening to tear her apart. This was a battle already in the planning and Nakuto knew that the field was currently being set. But today was not a good day to die. She was once more, and for the first time in more years than she could bear to count, on a starship! Her duty, her mission, was laid out for the taking. Excitement, anxiety, trepidation, deep and unbridled joy - these were emotions that had become strangers to her. But now each one coursed through her veins like the bloodwine she had consumed at breakfast. This was a new and glorious day and Mirai was ready to follow it wherever it may lead. And so it was with uncharacteristic exhuberance that the tall, muscular half-Klingon burst into the Chimera’s sickbay and, her gaze pausing at each occupant in turn, roared “I am here for my physical. Who wishes to attend to me?”

As normally follows such a moment be it loud declaration, mass smashing of bottles in a restaurant or random scream in a chattering mass of people, sickbay seemed to stop dead for a second as the patients and Doctors alike stared for a few stunned seconds then went back to their jobs and conversations.
“Apparently the answer is no one kid.” A male voice said. Sitting on a rolling stool at the side of a nearby empty biobed the older bearded man sat in blue jeans and a white T-shirt that proclaimed “Andorians know where it’s at.” He rested his chin on the handle of a black mental cane and watched Mirai with interest painted across his lined features.

MDMirai turned to the speaker and allowed a frown to deepen her ridged forehead. No uniform, no insignia or badge that she could see. Was this man a patient also? A civilian, perhaps? Her gaze travelling up to his bearded face, she found herself wondering just how long this man had been waiting!
Turning on her heel and marching over to him, she extended her muscular, right arm towards his chest and, with finger extended asked, “And where might it be ‘at’?”
Another glance outwards at the population of the room and it appeared, to her rising irritation, that she had already been forgotten.“Wherever it is at, it most definitely is not here,” the belligerent half-Klingon continued, reaching for an unoccupied stool and wheeling herself forcefully over to the man’s side.
“This is a pointless task at any rate. Merely a formality currently standing between me and my work. But as you can surely see, I am in prime condition!”
Another glance out at the room and she added with increased volume, “I challenge any of you to wave your tricorders in my direction and prove me wrong!”
