Katelyn narrowly resisted the urge to test the repair to her leg by kicking him, reminding herself that would not be becoming of her position on the Chimera. “Or what?” she grumbled at Ryley. “I was already cleared by Starfleet Medical to be here. If I’d known you were going to be so annoying, I’d have left you with the Klingons.”

Ryley watched her. “ Or nothing. You go on your way and I dog you till I find something else to occupy myself with.” He made a scoffing noise, “yeah right…like I trust what any other doctors say. I’ve been to starfleet medical, I know what those guys are drinking. As for the Klingons, you knew how annoying I was before you decided to come get me. Put me back if you want, what do I care? But If that’s your best line of defence then I’m disappointed.”

Katelyn let out an annoyed huff, but laid back down on the biobed obediently. Her inky black eyes followed Ryley’s every move as she laid there silently.

Ryley waited till she was comfortable. He then began running the tricorder over her. “So…you wanna talk about it?” He asked as the heavily modified and clearly no longer regulation device whirred and worked.

Katelyn looked suspiciously at the tricorder that was clearly not Starfleet issue. “Nope. What is that thing?”

Jacobs, CO

Ryley gave it a glance. This is called a tricorder. was his first thought. However instead he said “This was the tricorder i was given when i started medical training. I upgrade it and tinker with it every now and then. ”

He continued to scan.

Ryley’s repairs had taken fine and the rest of Jacobs seemed to be in reasonable shape. She likely wasn’t eating or sleeping enough, but it wasn’t having a serious detriment to her physical health. Her heart rate and blood pressure were running a bit higher than her records would indicate were her norm, but they were not out of the range of normal. While the tricorder provided this information, Katelyn continued to give it a dubious and moderately concerned look. While it couldn’t precisely hurt her, given it was making no physical contact with her, the unknown nature of the device certainly made her uncomfortable.

“And yes, I’m well aware it’s a tricorder,” she finally commented snarkily.

Jacobs, CO

oh good, I was getting tired talking. Ryley thought as he read the tricorder readouts adding a nice list of checks, queries and other possible avenues of diagnostic merit to the mix. You’re going to need to talk however, I don’t do the mental reading thing, don’t have the lobes for it. His brain categorised her vitals into the correct group and then stored them for later, making several mental notes to check her vitals again when she least suspected it. Finished he closed his tricorder, put it into the inner pocket of his jacket and raised both eyebrows at her. Ask a stupid question.

He stood back from the bed to give her room to move down.

The glare on Katelyn’s face spoke volumes about her opinion of Ryley’s thoughts as she slid down off the biobed with practiced ease, not wincing this time as she impacted lightly with the deck of the ship. “Are you satisfied, your highness?” she commented, her tone shifting back to more playfully snarky than just plain cranky.

Ryley raised his eyebrows, the corner of his mouth turning upwards. “Not really. I’m hungry and lost on a ship I don’t know with people I don’t know.” He leaned on the new cane and puffed air between his cheeks. “You don’t know where I can get my hands on a burger do you?”
