Katelyn kept up a decent pace as she and the COS made their way through the ship, somewhere between a jog and a brisk walk. Soon enough, she was striding across the hanger bay to the shuttle. She noted with frustration that they had been unsuccessful at launching it yet, but it was fortunate in a way since it would allow her to be able to easily enter the ship.

Nose Art, as it was still called, was a practice that had originated centuries earlier with German pilots during the First World War. And while it was many times frowned upon, it was a tradition that was very much still alive with current Ranger crews. As such, Carnegie’s ship was easy to spot in the middle of the remaining Ranger-class vessels that composed the Reconnaissance Squadron, mostly as it was the only one sporting a large Pittsburgh Steelers logo with the words ‘Lady of Steel’ painted on its nose.

OOC: Sigh, I suppose I have to continue for the good of the ship… but normally, the Steelers logo would be… hrmph.

OOC: shakes head :P

=/\= This is Captain Jacobs, open up. =/\=

Jacobs, CO

There was no reply to the Captain’s comm. Instead, after a few moments of silence, a hatch opened, and from under the ship’s fuselage a small ladder lowered, allowing access to the vessel’s cockpit. Inside there were three stations. Carnegie sat at the middle one, her chair swiveled backwards to face the steps. From behind her, her console was lit up in unpleasantly bright orange, purple, and blue hues, instead of the subdued LCARS display colors. To the right, the Chimera’s Chief Science Officer sat at the Sensor Ops console, and to the left Admiral M’Ressa sat at the Engineering console.

When the Chimera’s CO climbed on board, she was met with a tired look from the Marine Captain. Being the only crew member on board wearing a flight suit instead of a Starfleet uniform, Carnegie was easily identifiable.

“Welcome on board, Captain. I hope you don’t mind cozying up.” Eleanor’s tone was playful, but it was clear that behind the playfulness was a high degree of annoyance.

As the hatch opened up, Katelyn easily scaled the ladder, muscle memory taking over quickly from her own days as a pilot. Assuming the COS would follow, she pushed herself through the hatch and squeezed over to one side to ensure that there was room for him as well. Her attention was briefly distracted looking around the interior of the ship. She hadn’t had as much time as she’d liked to familiarize herself with the Chimera and its various capabilities, nor spend time on the craft it contained – this was one of the side effects of command that she liked the least, especially commanding a vessel as large as the Chimera. A toss of her black curls later, she forced a friendly smile across her own tired features. “We’ll make do. It would be best if Lieutenant Sheriye and Lieutenant Riloc headed to the computer core to see what they can do there anyway.” She nodded at the two officers in turn as she spoke their names and squeezed to the side to allow them to exit the shuttle.

The annoyance in the Marine’s face became slightly more pronounced the moment the Chimera’s CO started to speak, but by the time the woman finished, it had left Carnegie’s face entirely.

“What’s our status here, Captain?” she inquired, hoping that her slightly deferential tone would smooth over any rumpled feelings. It wasn’t every day that the CO of the entire ship came storming onto your vessel and she could empathize with the situation, but frankly, getting the ship back up and running was far more important in her book.

It was impossible to miss the surprise in Eleanor’s eyes, even if the expression had been only momentary. “Uh… we’re still waiting for the all clear.” The annoyance was back in her tone, but this time not at the Captain but rather at the situation. “There seems to be a warp bubble around us and a force field. Because one of them wasn’t already bad enough.” Carnegie swiveled her seat to face her console before tapping a few commands. “To add to that, the Chimera is apparently not moving. So, I guess we’re stranded until further notice, Ma’am.” The Marine looked back at the carrier’s CO. “We were trying to head out to take some external scans of the Chimera, but I am not sure that’s happening any time soon…” Eleanor shook her head impatiently. Out of habit, her index finger pushed her glasses back into her face even though she was currently not wearing them. “Now… what is happening out there? I was already on the deck when all of this started and I am clueless as to what is going on… I figure you probably know more than me.”

Riloc followed the captain. Taking a look around he noticed what the capt had seen.

When he was given his orders he turned to Sheryie and nodded. ” I guess we are going on a little adventure Lt.” He smiled, though it was a tried smile it was friendly enough. All he wanted was to rest his bones now, but ship safety comes first. There would be time for R and R if they survived.

COS

OOC: Writing Krys out… let’s just assume the characters fade out now and Shalon has always been the CSO, which I see you pretty much already did, Aaron. :)

Katelyn smiled and waved at the COS as he made his way off with the others. The admiral had decided to follow as well, freeing up quite a bit of room in the small craft for herself and Carnegie. She was tempted to slid into one of the vacated seats, but she forced herself to wait to be invited, remembering that, despite the fact this ship was currently docked inside her ship, it wasn’t actually her ship.

OOC: orders…

=^= Jen to Ranger. I’ve contacted marine Colonel Georgio to begin rotating rest periods for the marines. Gamma shift would be coming on normally though Alpha shift by now is exhausted given that it was almost 22:00 when this event began. I would defer the implementation of this to the CMO as she has the latest stats on injuries and how this is best done. Do you concur? =^=

=/\= Agreed, Commander. This doesn’t seem like a problem that’s going to be solved immediately. =/\= Katelyn’s voice paused as she gave an exasperated sigh of frustration. =/\= Let me know once we have some information from the computer core. I’m just boarding the craft now and then we’ll figure out how to best utilize what we have here to supplement the ship. =/\=

Eleanor sighed softly. At the mention of the word ‘rest’ she realized how tired she actually was, but with the adrenaline currently pumping her body, there was no way she was going anywhere. Not to mention… no one was piloting her ship, and she really wanted to be the one to take the party outside.

Finally noticing that both Commanding Officer and Chief of Security were still standing in the middle of her cockpit, Carnegie shot the Fleeters a tired smile. “I’m sorry… where are my manners. Please, feel free to take your favorite station. That one is Sensor Ops…” Eleanor motioned to the one on the right side. “… and that one is Engineering.” She said motioning to the one on the left. “In case we do take off and you don’t feel comfortable manning one of them, I can move them to my panel.” The Marine paused to catch her breath before saying proudly. “I am used to fly the Lady all by myself, so it’s nothing I haven’t done before. Just be aware… There’s a pair of glasses somewhere under one of the consoles. I dropped them earlier. They look like one of those old twentieth century Earth ones… Let me know if you happen to find them. My brother will kill me if I ask him for another pair and I would much rather not have to live through that experience.”
