Ryley made a noise in his throat half grummble, half laugh. “Yeah well they took the shiny pips away and then gave them back again so you’ll excuse me if I don’t hold much stock in them. I mean who wants to be known by dots of metal anyway.” He looked at her as she steadied him. “ No. you’re here because you want something…something that means I gotta do something which is the opposite of what I want to do, and no again sweetheart what I need is an osteoregenerator and a couple of hypos of Codvin.”“You know, the sweetheart is really growing on me,” Katelyn commented, her eyes dancing in amusement as she dropped the hand steadying him.
“Duly noted. But if you try to kiss me be warned, I like to cuddle after.”
He followed her gaze and pushed himself upright, most of his weight going onto his staff. “You transport in that doorway you’ll have half the illegally cloaked ships firing on you before you know what the hell hit you. Find an abandoned corridor, somewhere off of G deck then go. I’m not that drunk I can walk that far.” He said quietly as to avoid the ear shot of the other patrons.
Turning to his young bartender friend. Rummaging in his pocket Ryley pulled a few strips of latnium out of his winnings and tossed it to him. “ Here kid. This is no a place to start a career. Get the hell out and go do something with your life.”
He wandered away pulling his backpack and duffle onto his uninjured shoulder and not waiting to see if Jacobs followed.
Ryley
MDWithin seconds, the duffle was tugged off his shoulder as Katelyn snatched it from him to sling over her small frame. She gave him a charming and slightly sardonic smile as she allowed him to lead the way to wherever he decided was safe for them to transport. It didn’t seem like the matter of whether he was coming with her had been totally resolved yet, but, well, it pretty much was in her book, even if it meant a borderline kidnapping attempt. After a few beats of silence, she commented, idly, “don’t worry, I’ll make sure that the Chimera has an osteoregenerator and that Codvin standing by.”
Jacobs, CO
“Oh how kind of you.” He retorted without looking at her. “You know Jacobs…kidnapping is still a crime.”
Katelyn’s eye roll was so distinct that it was almost audible as she snapped back, “bite me.”
“Not on the first date sweetheart.” Ryley retorted. His eyes, despite the booze, twinkled mischieviously.
They reached an old rickety Turbolift and Ryley piled in. He gripped the barrier and then held it up when the rusted hunk of metal came away in his hand. Raising an eyebrow he cleared his throat and tossed it away. “Yeah safe as houses and all that. In you get Kiddo before our friends catch us up.”
Ryley
MDKatelyn smothered a laugh at the hunk of metal in Ryley’s hand and shook her head as she stepped through the turbolift doors. “Where are we headed?” she demanded, again rolling her eyes at Ryley. “And that’s Fleet Captain Kiddo to you. I’m pretty fond of my pips.”
Jacobs, CO
“G deck. Old habitat area, pretty much abandoned at this time of day. No one will notice us transport out and by the time tweedle dee and tweedle dumb get there they will assume we are somewhere in there. Take them hours to work out we’ve gone.”
He considered her. “Yeah sure, ill remember next time…kiddo.”
Ryley
MD
Just before the turbolift doors shut a fairly large male who somehow had managed to deftly stay out of sight the whole time that Katelyn and Ryley were having their chat unassumedly stood next to Katelyn with what looked like a regulation issue buzz cut stepped into the lift and his hands placed in front of him in a way that just screamed a soldier on protective detail. “Ma’am.” Granger said acknowledging Katelyn.
