That evening once having spoken to her department’s superior, Skye had taken some time away from those biology laboratories. After all, it had been her father who had found this new commission through a chain of different contacts scattered across the quadrant. Walking down the hallway, her head was held high, the artificial lighting beaming down upon light colored skin. Coming down to contour the lightly marked Trill runes that adorned both of the ensign’s temples. She was 23, having already walked through two commissions before being Court-Martialed once.

Shepherd had been let go with a dishonorable discharge to move in with Commander Castel on board the U.S.S. New Jersey, now as another civilian to the crew. Those months weighed down heavily on her since, a path she was already known for amongst the ranks. An ensign who had dared challenge two commanding officers before the Chimera became her next posting. She had lived most of her life on board one of Starfleet’s oldest vessels still in service, a Constitution Class that had remained untouched before the beginning to the Eugenics Wars. All these technologies and knickknacks were unknown territory.

And unknown territory at times proved to be scary.

A couple of steps were taken now, leading directly towards a turbolift located at the end of that long looking hallway. At this point, hands had been trembling. Instead, reaching out to a holster strapped around her leg, to reveal a Mark VII tricorder. A last piece of home the ensign had fiercely held onto before the doors slid open with a hiss. “Bridge.” She spoke while looking at all data appearing on that tiny screen. This had been her first time entering the brain of the starship, every control and console controlling the systems that made her function.

For a moment, she froze as the doors from the turbolift slid open once more. Too impressed by the situation which had unfolded right before her eyes. The hybrid was nervous, that much had become noticeable as she walked across the room to reach for the doorbell system. With her remaining hand harshly grasping the tricorder, attempting to regain a professional looking composure.

“Come,” Freja called at the chime of her door, looking up from her paperwork to see who was there.

There it was, the word that had haunted her for a year already. Dreading the fact of returning to the fleet. Skye walked past the doorway, uniform freshly pressed over her shoulders, hoping to look presentable enough to introduce herself towards the new commanding officer.

She silently stepped forwards as the tricorder once again into its holster, making the ensign hold both hands clasped behind. “Ensign Shepherd reporting for duty, Sir.” her voice was strained, showing a tremble to it… hoping the floor would collapse beneath.

“Ah, good, assigned to Science, right?” Freja regarded the newcomer, her dark eyes briefly scanning, “Lt. Nyrha’rae will love the expansion of her department to be sure, have you met with her yet?”
