Jarem continued to tend his Bajoran Kava-nut vine entwined with a Cardassian Lily graft. It wasn’t easy to do, but if it was, it would have been done, and they would have been found throughout the quadrant. He did it, not to make them a popular plant, but rather to investigate how the two plants could interact and grow together. Even though he was now a Counsellor, he never forgot his roots in the life sciences, neurobiology was his specialty, but botany was still in the field, and who said they didn’t feel, didn’t respond to the environment around them. Jarem knew of the sentient plants of Canticus Theatrum IV, and of Audrey II, a Venus fly trap who sang show tunes to the crew of the USS Ogawa a long time ago, following her transfer to the starship from the planet’s surface.

T’Leia had received notification of her Counseling appointment in the arboretum, if all places. This was a usual Counselor and her curiosity was piqued. Entering the arboretum she felt the humidity and warmth envelop her. It reminded her of the heat on Vulcan. Not the humidity, as Vulcan was dry except for the higher humidity in the lake regions but the heat. She loved the heat and actually spent a lot of her off duty hours here. Tending the plants. It occurred to her that perhaps the new Counselor had been made aware of that fact and that was why he chose to meet her here. Making her way along the rows she found the Counselor caring for a new plant. She studied it for a moment before speaking. It looked like a Bajoran vine and a Cardassian Lily. Fascinating, the Counselor must have grafted the two together. Symbolism of Bajor and Cardassia learning to work together?
“Good afternoon, Counselor. A fascinating specimen, how do you meet each of their needs?”

Lt. T’Leia CSO

Jorem looked up when he heard T’Leia’s voice. He dusted his hands of and nodded to her. He rose to his feet and tapped the screen of a padda couple of times.

“Lieutenant,” he greeted her warmly, “my fiancee is Cardassian, I am Bajoran. My family are opposed to our union and claims it’ll never last. But so far, it has, and our love is strong. The Kava-nut vine from Bajor and the Lily from Cardassia Prime require different soil types and Ph levels, to each other, so they take daily care and attention, just like my relationship. But, when something is worthwhile, you put work into it.”

He looked at her and said, “the Chimera has been without a counsellor for some time, Lieutenant. So boarding counselling appointments haven’t been had with a great number of the crew. I wanted to check in with you informally to ensure you were fine psychologically and to assure you that I am available should you need it. So, how are you coping on the Chimera? Any issues that I should know about at the present time? I need to confirm with the captain that I have checked in with the senior staff.”

Lt Ekaton Jorem, CNS, Chimera

T’Leia listened with interest to the Counselor’s explanation on the plants. “Ingenious.” She said when he had finished. “I appreciate the subtle correlation to your relationship as well. Very Vulcan like.” She spent a moment studying some of the other plants before answering his question. “I am quite well, Counselor. There are times that I find being among such emotional species trying but I use meditation and coming down here to work among the plants gives me enough rejuvenation time.”

Lt. T’Leia CSO

Jarem noted her comments on a padd, before responding

“I also find meditation useful in my efforts to ground myself ahead of trying to contact my family and after the fruitless efforts have ended,” Jarem said, and then curious, he continued, “your meditations, are they purely from Vulcans, or do you also use meditations from more emotional species? Nalla Ennamax from Bajor is one that I’ve found useful, I appreciate the way she can take me to a forest, a beach, a ship, a desert or a mountain with just her words, no holodeck necessary.”

OOC: Nalla Ennamax - a mashing of the names of my art therapist (Max) and my therapist (Anne Allan, with Anne’s name backwards and surname before given name in Bajoran manner

T’Leia’s head cocked curiously. “No, I cannot say I have heard of her. I have only used Vulcan meditation methods. So you are saying her meditation methods cause you to see other vistas? That is unusual, does it include a psychogenic?”

Lt. T’Leia CSO

“Not exactly see, Lieutenant,” Jorem said, “she encourages me to get comfortable and relaxed and ground myself, she describes what I’m seeing, and then I’m there, just through the power of her voice, no holo-technology and no psychogenics required. If I’m away from her physically, I have a recording of the meditation’s words that I can play. It is … different … to a holodeck as each person taking part can have their own view of a beach, the colour of the sand, the temperature, whether there are others around, how calm or agitated the water is, and more. It takes but a few moments, it works for me. I guess its more … imagine … than see. For me, I can be in my office, or in my quarters and if I’m overwhelmed by my emotions, I can run the meditation, I’m back on Bajor on one of the beaches near the city of Ilvia and I’m calm once again. Considering each point of anxiety or concern and setting them aside in my mind to be dealt with later, helps me in the moment to be fully present. And gives me ideas of what I can work on.”

“So, which of your Vulcan meditations do you prefer, and are they usable by none-Vulcans?” Jace asked, “I’m always seeking to improve my own practice in supporting the crew.”

Lt Ekaton Jorem, CNS, Chimera

T’Leia nodded in understanding as she stood with her hands held behind her back. Her Vulcan poise innate.
“Ah, yes. We have a meditation practise like that called Gla-tor. It is visualizing a place, such as a Vulcan sand garden, while one is meditating. I myself, usually visualize myself on the porch of my parents house, which overlooks a lake.”

Lt. T’Leia CSO

“Sounds relaxing, Lieutenant,” Jorem said to her, “do you often or ever get to see their house, beyond the meditation, and do you have any interest in returning there in person?”

“I do return back there when I am leave from duty and for family occasions when I can.”

He paused, and looked at the Vulcan, “do you mind us doing this here, Lieutenant, or would you prefer to do this in my office?”

Lt Ekaton Jorem, CNS, Chimera

“I am quite comfortable here, Counselor. As I said, I have my own plot here and I come down in the evenings to walk.” T’Leia paused to study some yellow flowers.

Just a bump to put it back on the boards. At your convenience Russ, don’t rush.
