From conducting scientific research on an unnamed station to Deep Space 9 ready to further transfer to the USS Chimera, it had been an incredible few days for Jasper Edwards.

In all of it, he had been promoted from just another nameless ensign who went unnoticed to Lieutenant Junior Grade and he hadn’t even had time for that to sink in. People were referring to him as “sir” and “Lieutenant” and he hadn’t even been paying them attention. He was just so lost in the madness of the last few days, they could have been hurling horrible insults at him and he probably wouldn’t have cared.

He wasn’t stupid however, he was aware it was now go time. The USS Chimera had been assigned a mission in the Gamma Quadrant and he would be expected to pull his weight and offer the scientific experience and scientific knowledge that his captain, first officer or other officers serving on board the USS Chimera would require. He desperately hoped they didn’t need anything physics related, physics was most definitely not his strong suit.

Jasper felt odd without his trusty labcoat covering his chemical stained uniform, however it had already gone on ahead to the USS Chimera in his bags. All he had was his PaDD and his trusty glasses. He couldn’t see without his glasses, the wide lenses and brass coloured frames making him look like a stereotype he didn’t want to be associated with.

The first duty of any new Department Head was to check in with their commanding officer. Jasper wasn’t much for policy and procedure, however he figured he had to tick the boxes and dot the I’s in order to keep the role in which he had earned.

Lieutenant Junior Grade.

Mental.

The newest Lieutenant Junior Grade on board the USS Chimera approached a random office on Deep Space 9. It was the office in which he had been informed he could find Captain Freja Andreassen, Captain of the USS Chimera and also leader of the mission to the Gamma Quadrant. If his first officer was also present, then there was no harm and he could formally introduce himself to both of them.

Jasper knocked, and waited.

OOC: I appreciate the opportunity to join the crew of the Chimera! As discussed with Kat via Email, I believe the story we are telling is Jasper joining the USS Chimera whilst it is docked at DS9 so I figured I’d tie that in here and set this following the big command meeting. I’ve also left this open or not to Keiron if you wish to jump in! No issues at all if not, but figured they both have to meet at some point haha!

“Enter,” Freja called at the sound of the knock on the door.

IC: The scientist stepped into the office.

His eyes cast around briefly before locking onto his new commanding officer, Captain Andreassen of the USS Chimera. He’d seen her briefly during the mission briefing but this was his first chance to truly introduce himself and have a conversation with her. He paused briefly for a moment, mind racking at thousands of miles a second to try and think of what to say.

“Captain” he started. “I… ugh” he stuttered for a few seconds, hands rubbing together nervously. He took a breath before pulling himself together. “Jasper Edwards” he finally settled. “I believe I’m to be your new Chief Science Officer onboard the Chimera”

“Oh good, I was hoping the powers that be would get us someone for the job before we departed on our full mission, good to meet you Lt.,” Freja gestured to some seats around the random meeting room, “If you prefer to have seat by all means, I probably won’t keep you here too long. We’re probably going to be headed into the wormhole before long so I’d like you to get over to the Chimera and assess your department so that you can let either myself or Commander Lunan, my XO know, so we can attempt to get it on the ship for you before we depart. Do you have any questions or concerns about the mission that you would like to discuss with me as your CO?”

He offered a laugh.

“Questions, Captain? How much time do you have?” he asked with a laugh, beginning to become more comfortable in the presence of the Captain. “Seems like we’re definitely walking into the unknown, which scares me” he said finally. “I’ll get scans running the moment we get through the wormhole and start working with the Chief Engineer, see if between us we can figure out the physics behind this drive” he spoke. “Not my strong point, physics. Chemistry? My PhD. Biology, I can have a good crack. Physics? Not a clue” he offered another laugh.
