Ms. Hall was a little tired from what happened over the passed few days and she thought that going to the counselors office and rang the chime. Not realizing that it was going to matter. But she thought it would be best since all of these medical treatment that needed to be done with the new passengers. She has been super stressed.

Lieutenant Hall.

Bump

Keitah glanced up from her desk as the chime sounded, signaling someone at her door. She hadn’t expected anyone to seek her out at this moment, but as the ship’s counselor, she was always prepared to lend an ear. “Come in,” she said as her attention remained on the door.

Lieutenant Naisyr
(Counselor)

Hall then walked in and looks a little tired. “hello counselor. Sorry if I’m interrupting.” She said looking at her feeling stressed out.

Lieutenant Hall

Bump

As Lieutenant Hall entered her office, Keitah observed the weariness in her eyes and the tension in her posture. She could empathize; life aboard a starship was demanding, to say the least. “No need to apologize, Lieutenant,” Keitah replied, gesturing for Hall to take a seat. “How can I assist you today? Is everything alright?”

Lieutenant Naisyr
(Counselor)

“Counselor. I’m really stressed and to be honest trying to get all those people from the shuttle bay to sick bay stressed me out. That’s why I came to talk.” She said.

Lieutenant Hall

Bump

Keitah nodded sympathetically, understanding the pressure Lieutenant Hall must be under. “I can imagine that was a challenging situation,” she said, her tone reassuring. “It’s important to take a moment for yourself when you’re feeling overwhelmed. Lets talk about it. What specifically has been causing you stress about then situation? Were there any casualties? Or is it just the fact that you were responsible for ushering all those beings to safety at that particular mooment?”

Lieutenant Naisyr
(Counselor)

“It was just the fact that it I was responsible for using all those being to safety. It was a lot and it was myself and my junior officer. It’s just something I didn’t expect doing right away.” She said.

Lieutenant Hall

“I can only imagine how overwhelming that must have felt,” she said softly. “Being put into such a challenging situation with little warning can shake even the most experienced officers. But remember, you’re not alone when these situations happen. You have your crew, your fellow officers, and now me, here to support you.”
She paused, giving Hall a moment to absorb her words before continuing. “It’s completely understandable to feel the pressure in moments like these. But it’s also important to acknowledge that you did the best you could with the resources you had. And sometimes, that’s all anyone can ask for.”

Lieutenant Naisyr
(Counselor)

“Well counselor. I got to admit I’m glad that I have everyone. But I’ll take that into consideration.” Lieutenant Hall had said to the counselor.

Lieutenant Hall

“That’s the spirit,” Keitah replied, offering a smile. She could sense Lieutenant Hall’s inner turmoil, the weight of responsibility pressing down on her shoulders. As a counselor, she knew the importance of providing a listening ear and a reassuring voice in times of crisis.
“And part of that is recognizing when to lean on others for support. You’ve shown great strength in reaching out, Lieutenant. It’s a sign of resilience.”

Keitah paused, observing Hall’s expression for any signs of easing tension or relief. She wanted to ensure she felt heard and understood, laying the groundwork for further discussions if needed.

Lieutenant Naisyr
(Counselor)

“Well counselor.” She started to say in relief. “I’m glad I came and talked to you about this. I needed this.” She said with a smile.

Lieutenant Hall

Keitah’s smile widened slightly. “I’m glad you did too, Lieutenant,” she said softly. “Sometimes beings forget that seeking support is a strength, not a weakness.”
Keitah knew that moments of vulnerability like these could be pivotal, not just for immediate comfort but for long-term resilience.
“You’ve been through a lot,” Keitah continued, her tone gentle but probing. “It might help to talk a bit more about what’s been weighing on you. Sometimes just putting it into words can make it feel more manageable.”

Lieutenant Naisyr
(Counselor)

“I agree Counselor. But what exactly do you want me to discuss about?” She said.

CSO Hall

Bump

Keitah maintained her warm, reassuring smile, her eyes showing understanding and patience. She took a moment to gather her thoughts, wanting to guide Lieutenant Hall effectively.

“It can be anything you want to talk about, but I can guide you if you need me to. Let’s start with what’s most on your mind right now, Lieutenant,” Keitah suggested. “Think about the moments that replay in your thoughts when you’re alone, or the feelings that keep surfacing despite your best efforts to push them away. What’s the first thing that comes to mind?”

Lieutenant Naisyr
(Counselor)

“To be honest counselor. Nothing. There’s nothing that I push away ever.” She said.

CoS Hall

Bump

Keitah’s smile didn’t fade, but she could sense the resistance behind Hall’s words. She knew it was common for officers to mask their vulnerabilities, especially in a position as demanding as Hall’s. Keitah decided to approach from a different angle.

“That’s understandable, Lieutenant,” she replied. “In our line of work, it’s natural to become adept at compartmentalizing. Sometimes, we do it so well that we don’t even realize we’re doing it. Let’s try something different. Can you tell me about a recent mission or interaction that stayed with you longer than usual? Maybe something that made you think twice or feel a bit more deeply?”

She watched Hall carefully, noting the subtle changes in her posture and expression. Keitah’s goal was to find a crack in the armor, not to expose it, but to help Hall recognize it herself.

Lieutenant Naisyr
(Counselor)

“Well I mean if you mean bout this last mission I felt different. I felt like I actually had control over my own department and what not but at the same time, I felt so overwhelmed with the amount of people that were coming aboard all at once. I felt like I was in the mood and or the mode to do it. ” She said.

CoS Hall

Bump

Keitah nodded thoughtfully, her eyes never leaving Hall’s. The Lieutenant’s words were raw, hinting at a struggle beneath the surface. Keitah sensed she was getting closer to something significant.
“Control and overwhelm, two sides of the same coin, aren’t they?” Keitah said, her voice soft but probing. “It’s like navigating a ship through a storm. On one hand, you’re at the helm, guiding the vessel; on the other, the waves threaten to capsize you at any moment. Tell me more about that feeling. What was it about this mission that brought both control and overwhelm to the forefront?”

Lieutenant Naisyr
(Counselor)

“Well counselor. It’s just so hard to put it in words. I don’t know how to explain it.” She said. Not knowing what to say.

CoS Hall

“Take your time, Lieutenant,” Keitah encouraged gently. “Sometimes, there aren’t perfect words to describe our experiences, but starting somewhere, anywhere, can help piece together the bigger picture.”

Lieutenant Naisyr
(Counselor)

“Well navigating through the ship is no problem. It’s just putting my people at risk and putting my life on the line saving all those people. The way we did. I just don’t know.” she said.

Lieutenant Hall

Keitah nodded thoughtfully. “Leadership often requires making difficult decisions in the heat of the moment,” she said. “It’s only afterward, when we have the luxury of time, that we start to question and second-guess ourselves. But what matters is that you acted with the best intentions, to protect your team and those you were saving.”
“Every decision we make in the field comes with risks,” Keitah said gently. “And the courage to make those decisions, even when the outcome isn’t certain, is what defines a true leader. It’s important to recognize that you did the best you could under incredibly challenging circumstances.”
Keitah offered her a reassuring smile. “This process of reflection and questioning is part of healing,” she added. “You don’t have to have all the answers right now. What’s important is that you’re here, seeking to understand and grow from this experience.”

The clock on the console embedded into her desk chimed, signaling the end of their session. Keitah leaned back in her chair, giving Hall a moment to gather her thoughts. “We can continue this conversation in our next session,” she suggested, her tone warm and encouraging. “For now, focus on taking care of yourself and allowing these feelings to surface. It’s a journey, and you don’t have to go it alone.”

Lieutenant Naisyr
(Counselor)

“I will most definitely do that that. Thank you counselor. And yes having another session will be great. It is honestly nice to have someone to talk to about things like this. So thank you.” She said.

Lieutenant Hall

“You’re very welcome, Lieutenant,” Keitah replied, maintaining her warm smile. “Remember, it’s important to give yourself grace. You’ve made significant progress today.”

As Hall left the room, Keitah took a deep breath and allowed herself a brief moment to reflect. With the room now empty, Keitah turned her attention to the console, making a few quick notes on Hall’s progress. She documented the key points discussed, the emotions observed, and the goals set for their next session. It was vital to capture the nuances of each conversation, as they often revealed patterns and insights that were crucial for effective therapy.
Once her notes were complete, Keitah stood and stretched, feeling the tension ease from her muscles. She glanced at the clock again, realizing she had a few minutes before her next appointment. She walked over to a window and viewed the passing stars. They were always a source of comfort for Keitah. The vastness of space, with its endless stars and galaxies, reminded her of the infinite possibilities that lay ahead. It was a place where she could clear her mind and find a moment of peace amidst the demands of her role.
As she stood there, gazing out at the stars, Keitah reflected on her journey to becoming a counselor. It had been a path filled with challenges and personal growth, but it was one she would never trade. Helping others navigate their struggles was more than just a job; it was her calling.
