The transports moved up to the docking ports and with a metallic thunk and then a hiss the seals attached and then pressurized the area. IRIS turned to one of the wing nuts. An Efrosian woman, nicknamed ‘Jack’, “Jack, get those doors open and let’s get people on board.” Jack grabbed the industrial Emergency hand actuators and popped the access panel locked within the temporary airlock and began working at forcing the door open.

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

One of the upsides of the operation was that the Empress - up to this point - was a well put together and maintained ship. Not to mention civilian, so the work to get the door open was a matter of a well drilled operation mixed with working with good equipment. With a soft hiss the hatch opened .. then screeched to a stop a third of the way open. By initial scans there had been some warping on the hull with the explosion stopping that. However, people could still slip through single file ..

Beyond was a sudden rise in female voices and chatter. Over it all was what sounded not unlike a voice of command that was over it all. “One at a time. Don’t move like a scared petaQ! You help this one!” .. and the first of the bunch peered around the door, eyes wide, a nasty bruise at her temple otherwise marring a face framed in blonde.

Jack held out a hand and helped people through with a friendly smile. “Come on, it’s safe. The seal is perfectly stable. We can take 30 at a time.” She passed them to a waiting marine who was ready with water and quick bandages and another who got them settled into seats.

“Jack, stay here and help operate the door for the next shuttle,” IRIS called to her. “Yes Ma’am.” Jack disappeared through the hatch and Gigs took her place. Between the two of them they got the hatch closed and both vessels sealed. IRIS glanced back at her passengers. “Welcome aboard. We’ll get you back to the Chimera where Star Fleet officers will be waiting to take care of you. If you need help just say the word. As soon as everyone has disembarked we’ll be going back. We will get everyone over here safely.”

Across the Empress the same was happening as transports docked and took on 30 passengers in a go. They had 30 transport shuttles, and it was a steady organized evacuation as one shuttle left another docked and took on more passengers. The Black Sheep’s four SAR shuttles docked to take on those deeming immediate medical care.

As Siraa moved the shuttle away from the Empress and back towards the Chimera, she opened a comm to the Chimera and the other transports. =/\=Cpt. sh’Rharror to Chimera. First wave is returning. SAR shuttles will land to ship’s starboard side of the flight deck for immediate disembarkation. Requesting additional assistance to help assist evacuees from transports.=/\=

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

OOC: I apologize for being gone for a bit and I am going to do my best to reinsert myself back into this storyline.
Mika
IC: The comm channel crackled to life, and Keitah focused her attention on the incoming communication from Marine Captain sh’Rharror. The voice on the other end of the line resonated through the comm, relaying crucial information about the return of the first wave and the need for additional assistance.
As she waited for the arrival of the shuttle her thoughts raced. She had to be ready to provide support to those traumatized by the events unfolding around them. The counseling skills she honed in her office were about to be put to the test in a much more challenging setting.

Naisyr, Counselor

The deck crew had the shuttles turned and the deck cleared in quick clean efficiency, so the first wave could take off and the next land with more people from the Empress. IRIS was relieved to see the Raiders on the deck, helping to keep people moving and organized. IRIS sped her shuttle back toward the Empress and joined the queue to dock at the hatch and take on another group.

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

The quiet efficiency of the operation was met with the staggering volume of people as the number of beings rescued quickly climbed over 1000 .. the majority of them were passengers and of them many only had bumps and bruises while some escaped harm altogether. It was the crew of the Empress who were fraught with more injuries and of that more severe injuries.
- Wookiee

The shuttles continued to rotate out and take on as many people as they could squeeze into the space. Oni’s SAR shuttles joined the queue after they had evacuated all the worst of the patients. After several trips IRIS commed the Empress, =/\=Mar Cpt sh’Rharror to Empress. We’ve evacuated your passengers and non-essential personnel. It’s time to evacuate the rest. Empty shuttles are docking at all ports in 10 seconds.=/\=

Mar. Capt. sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

Evacuations continued in relative peace for some time .. until …

One shuttle moving into position to dock was suddenly ‘bumped’ by the Empress as she bodily moved. The shuttle bounced against the hull as it shifted until the pilot was able to push away from the Empress. Pieces of debris - hull plating sailed past the shuttle, one such piece grating nastily against the shuttle resulting in red lights flashing over the console and alarms going off.

=^= Captain. Shear is pushing us off course. Structural damage at the stern. Decompression in rear quadrants. Personnel left .. close to 2,000 =^= That last came out in no small tone of concern.
- Wookiee

=/\=Get everyone to the air locks. We’ll take as many as we can, we’ll push our limits. Do you have any auxiliary craft? I have extra aviators that are willing to pilot them to get everyone out of there faster.=/\=

OOC: pasting in GM response
=^= People are at the active airlocks. =^= The sound of shouting in the background could be heard. Nothing was blowing up but that was likely due to the limits of power in the ship being on batteries. =^= Negative. All escape pods are locked. I don’t know why. When the explosion happened it locked everything. =^=

=/\=Acknowledged. We’ll find a solution=/\= IRIS said with enough assurance and authority to provide calm. Then she switched her comms.

Keitah’s eyes widened as the message came through and her mind raced as the shuttle’s distress signal filled the comm channel. The situation escalated, and her role as a counselor took on a new urgency. She activated her own communication link, trying to maintain a calm and reassuring tone. =/\= This is Lieutenant Naisyr, ship’s counselor. All personnel, remain calm. Let me know what I can do to help and guide you through this.=/\=

Lieutenant Naisyr
(Counselor)

=/\=Cpt sh’Rharror to Capt. Andreassen and Col Lardel. The Empress is tearing apart and we still have 2000 people on board. We need more shuttles…=/\= IRIS looked out at the shuttles as the Black Sheep worked to realign and dock, successfully, as the ship began to crumble. =/\=Or could you link the Chimera with the shuttles transporters and use them to enhance the signal and start beaming people off as well?=/\=

Mar. Capt. sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

That was possible …
- Wookiee

=^=Acknolwedged, I’m going to launch some starfleet shuttles to help and get engineering to try the transporter enhancement idea,=^= Freja replied.

=/\= I’d say daisy chaining transporter signals was a desperate act… but we’re in that kind of situation. If we don’t disengage soon, the fighters won’t be able to get out of the gravity well. IRIS! DO IT! Make that s#!t happen yesterday! =/\=

Lardel, CAG

=/\=Aye Col. Chimera is working on it. Evacuation shuttles will hold however long we need to.=/\=

Soon enough the three runabouts part of the Chimera’s regular complement of Starfleet craft launched, =^=The XO is working on getting personnel for the sixteen regular shuttle craft and engineering is working on jerry rigging the transporters, but myself and NEs Cannon and Fodder can fly the runabouts with a bit more skill. We’re here to help, but not take over your operation, where do you want us?=^=

While she waited for specific orders or her turn in the line, Freja’s dark eyes continued to scan her instruments to keep an eye out for hazards. Once a pilot, always a pilot, she had familiarized herself with every aspect of the runabouts, along with the standard shuttlecrafts. It was a calculated risk, always was when the CO stepped off the ship, but her skills were needed.

~Freja Andreassen~

IRIS looked at the lines for the shortest groups. =/\=Port and Starboard forward lines, Captain. Be aware some of the hatches have buckled. We have people inside to force them open. Captain, the fighters will be stuck in the gravity well if they don’t disengage soon.=/\=

Mar. Capt. sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

=^=Acknowledged, we’ll find a place,=^= Freja replied. Tapping her comms again, =^=Andreassen to Chimera, we need extra transport power now or we’re going to have trouble clearing the gravity well with our fighters and shuttles. Get it rigged up now.=^=

~Freja Andreassen~

OOC: Bump

Freja joined the line up to rig up to the Empress, keeping a practiced eye on everything the runabout sensors were telling her. She did a double check on available transport power as well, hopefully engineering could figure out something to boost their ability to feed more people off the Empress before lives were lost.

~Freja Andreassen~

IRIS docked at the airlock and they forced the door open again. “Jack, we may be trying to chain transporters through the shuttles to the Chimera. You help however their engineers need you too.”

“Yes Ma’am, Cpt. We’ll get it done.” As the last of the group squeezed in, they closed the hatch and IRIS took off again, letting the next shuttle fall into place.

Mar. Capt. sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

OOC: Need anything from me here? :)

-Kieron-

bump

Freja took her place in line, loading up another group of passengers, carefully navigating the hazards with her runabout. Once loaded, she flew away, leaving the next in line to pick up the next group.

Hopefully soon engineering would be able to chain some transporters together, because it was getting tricky to navigate.

~Freja Andreassen~

The shuttles were moving at the fastest speed they could, but the shearing was affecting maneuverability. It just wasn’t going to be enough. =/\=IRIS to Grel. Is the deck empty? We’re coming in with the next wave. We don’t have time to wait for room to move.=/\=

She could hear Grel shouting over the comm in his abrasive efficient way. =/\=You’ll have all the room you need, Cpt. Just bring them in.=/\=

Mar. Capt. sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

Bump

OOC: Cross Posting

=^= All Marines, this is the XO, we’ve rerouted a bit more power to the transporters from Engineering, my hope is that this will help you evacuate as many of the Empress‘ passengers as possible. =^=

-Lt. Commander Lunan Farrah: XO-

=/\=Roger Chimera. We’ll hold steady in a relay to help hold the signal. If the sheer gets too much, we’ll have to break off though,=/\= Siraa responded.

=/\= All Marines break contact and return to position around Chimera! Evac shuttles, you have time for ONE last trip! No more after! That means you, IRIS! =/\= Lardel barked. There was no way the fighters could keep themselves from the gravity well if they stayed any longer; all he could do was hope that the evac shuttles had cleared the passengers and crew.

Lardel, CAG

=/\=Aye Colonel.=/\= Siraa meant it, but she also wasn’t leaving anyone behind if she could help it. =/\=IRIS to all evacuation shuttles. You heard the colonel. Last trip. Get as many people as you can. Tell them to hold their breath. Then create 4 relay lines to help the Chimera boost the power for the transporters.=/\=

=/\=Mar Cpt sh’Rharror to Empress. The sheer has gotten too bad. We can’t hold. This is our last run. Chimera is going to try and boost power to the transporters as well.
=/\=

=/\=IRIS to all marines on the Empress this is our last run. You get on the last transports no matter what.=/\= She kept the comms open until she got confirmation from everyone.

Mar. Capt. sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

Hannibal’s voice came over comms. =/\= Hannibal to all stations. Do we have a fix on the Captain of the Empress =/\=

Lardel, CAG

Iris had been the first shuttle in and she’d be the last one out. She fell into the end of the line. The other shuttles picked up as many people as they could and then headed back to the Chimera. The shuttles set up a shuttle version of a bucket brigade to help the Chimera boost their transporter signals. IRIS pulled up to the dock, “Alright, last group! Everyone on! Jack, have you seen the captain of the Empress?”

Mar. Capt. sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

By all appearances and last scans the bridge crew of the Empress were still holding station on the liner. At least they had been when last that was checked.
Wookiee

Then the pulse formed and burst, centered behind the Empress and within the region of instability it flared brightly to a point where the viewer dampeners were behind, leaving dots of light in people’s eyes.

Shuttles and fighters closest to the Empress were shaken, some pulled off course from the wave and needing pilots to regain control.

The shuttle shook and tumbled off course, making the inertial dampeners to kick in hard. Siraa righted the shuttle and put it back on course, using the momentum of the burst rather than fight with it. “It’s alright everyone, no damage done. We’ll almost there.”

Scans on the Empress showed that almost all power was gone, that it was in a slow momentum inspired tumble in space. Life signs were still present; there may have been casualties from this strike but by scans it would be more injury than deaths. Communications were out. Life support and engines were out. On one side of the shifting behemoth whole regions of the hull had been peeled away. Some areas showed to be open to space but internal automatics looked to have sealed it off before it overwhelmed the vessel.
- Wookiee

=/\= Hannibal to Transporter room. The damn bridge crew is still on board the Empress!. Get a lock and yank them outta there! NOW! IRIS! Get those people out NOW and get those transporters moving! =/\=

Lardel, CAG

=/\=Aye Colonel. I’m dropping off the last evacuees. We’ll get them.=/\= The shuttle landed and people were hurried off to the waiting Security and medical people.

Mar. Capt. sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

There were some dim lighting in and around the bridge. At the time of the last scan there were twelve life signs there.
- Wookiee

Freja resisted the urge to ask for an update as she concentrated on landing the runabout with her passengers so they could disembark and receive any medical care necessary.

The hardest part sometimes about being in charge was stepping back and letting her crew do what they were trained to do.

~Freja Andreassen~

On the flight deck people began appearing in the area cordoned off for medical to triage. “MEDICS!” Manika trilled. A group of Raiders broke off from the rest and hurried over to the new arrivals. They assessed and then assisted or carried the people out to the Medical and Security officers in the corridor.

Maj. Manika-Esp, 2IC, Marine Battalion

OOC: Need me here?

-Kieron-

OOC: Sure!

With the Empress passangers mostly cleared out, the Raiders were helping the flight deck crew clear and move shuttles to decks 14 and 15 for repairs and room for the fighters to land as needed.

=/\=Major Esp, this is Cpt sh’Rharror. Empress Command crew incoming. Colonel Cull says they might be in a bad mood.=/\=

Manika’s beak snapped together and a trilling whistle (a laugh) sounded. She was sure. She waved over a group, “Krelk, form up a guard.” =/\=We’re ready for them, Cpt.=/\= The avaian major responded.

She looked up, “Cmdr Lunan. Empress command crew incoming.” She waved him over to where the stragglers were being beamed aboard.

Maj. Manika-Esp, 2IC, Marine Battalion

Lunan jogged over to the edge of the shuttlebay and felt his chest tighten slightly, “Good work peoplem how many of the passengers and crew do we have so far?”

-Lt. Commander Lunan Farrah: XO-

“Most of them, Sir,” Esp trilled. “The evacuation team is tagging anyone they find and piggy backing them over with the transporters your people amplified. We just got word the evacuation team is going in to get the command team off the Empress.”

Maj. Manika-Esp, 2IC, Marine Battalion

Lunan nodded quickly, “Good work Major, my compliments to the Battalion, do we have a window on when the Empress’ command crew will be over on our side?”

-Lt. Commander Lunan Farrah: XO-

“It should be within the next 10 minutes, Sir. 15 maybe if they have trouble accessing the bridge. Col. Cull and his team are breaching now,” Esp told him.

Maj. Manika-Esp, 2IC, Marine Battalion

After Freja had deposited her evacuees in the designated drop zone, she waited to hear that they had finished evacuations before she would park her runabout. She kept near the Chimera, but out of the way of the flight deck, assisting with making sure other ships didn’t try to interfere with their efforts, not that she wouldn’t be able to do as much as Lardel’s fighters, but she could at least provide another set of eyes on things.

~Freja Andreassen~

Truthfully she was at odds with her natural inclination to help and her duty as the Commanding Officer, Freja mused as she continued to monitor things. It was nice to have a little jaunt outside of the ship, and it served the purpose of her being able to see how well members under her command responded to emergencies. So far she was pleased.

~Freja Andreassen~

Lunan could feel Andreassen’s presence in the shuttlebay but it was clear that she wanted this to be his play, his responsibility, Hell of a time to test my skills he thought to himself.
