=/\= Squadron Leaders to CAG office immediately. =/\= came the ship-wide announcement. Lardel was in his office finalizing the mission briefing before anyone showed up. In a few minutes, the eight seats in front of the display screen would be filled with aviators. Lardel made sure the Marines had coffee available and that the system for the operation was cued up and ready.

Lardel, CAG

Siraa locked out her computer and exited her office. She made the short walk down to Lardel’s office. “Colonel,” she said by way of greeting on her way to the coffee. She poured a cup and then took a seat in her usual place on the outside of the front row.

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

“Captain.” Lardel said without looking up. “I’ll need you to remain behind after the Briefing, by the way. Also, start pulling a list of all female personnel we have… aviator and support. We’ll need it, I think.”

Lardel, CAG

Shinzo didn’t attend but he really wanted to. He was on duty in the ATC Tower per the Colonels orders until he’s better. But this gig wasn’t as bad Shinzo remembered it. Maybe it’s because of being sober or his new outlook on life, or his new girlfriend! Could be all these but he didn’t hate it anymore, he didn’t like it either, but he didn’t hate it. If push came to shove and he couldn’t fly anymore, this job wouldn’t be too bad.

Major Shinzo Honda

Siraa looked up, her antenna waving with curiosity, but knowing details would be forth coming after she simply replied, “Aye, Colonel.” She turned back to her PaDD and pulled up the full 214 roster and filtered it for all female personnel. She continued to filter based on position and rank and then read for any special skills listed.

OOC: I’ll let you detail that further if you like :) .. Gene

Once all the flight leaders were in, caffinated, and seated; Lardel walked to the display screen. “Alright, listen up. The Chimera is now en route to the Ceti-Gamma Binary system. No planets or stations, but there is a great deal of cosmic radiation creating a natural light and fireworks display. There the ship has been tasked with the assistance and-or rescue of a civilian passenger liner named Empress. There are as of now an unknown number of passengers and crew aboard. Ships engines have failed after an also unknown ‘incident’-” and he made Air quotes with his fingers, “- in their Engineering bay.It was stressed to the Captain that the entire crew and all passengers are female. Why, we do not know. Nor do we know ow if that will pose a difficulty to rescue operations.” He tapped the display and brought up a model of the Empress’s location.

“Ship is here. The Black Sheep are tasked with setting a perimeter around the operations area. We will also be assisting in search and rescue operations as needed. We can anticipate other civilian craft in the area trying to lend assistance. We are to be mindful that the operation may be broadcast, so we treat everyone with professionalism and courtesy. Copy?” The assembled aviators nodded and said “Copy.” in unison. “Good. We will set out initial perimeter at a hundred thousand kilometers. Be prepared to adjust that in or out as needed. Rescue transports will be commanded by IRIS. IRIS, we don’t know why everyone on the ship is female, but we are gonna do out best to accommodate the existing model. Crew all transports with female Mardines. Pull from ground crew if you have to. Echo Squadron. You will be dedicated overwatch of the transports. They are your only mission. Bravo, Charlie, and Delta. You are the security perimeter. Once we are on station, no one comes in without permission. Alpha, we are going to clear out or assist any other vessels on scene that are aiding the liner. If they aren’t helping, we are getting them out of the way. Everyone clear?”

Lardel, CAG

IRIS nodded. She had already started pulling names when Hannibal told her to earlier. Now she had an idea of how to pair groups together. “Colonel, do we know what kind of effect the radiation and gravity will have on our birds?” They were used to flying in hazardous conditions, but radiation could interfere with the birds’ systems. Plus they would have civilians, possibly injured, on the transports to keep safe from it.

OOC: Can i be of any help here?

-Kieron-

OOC: Hop in if you like!

IC: “Unknown at this time, but if civilian cruise liners are making stops and advertising the place as a regular tourist destination, we can assume that the fireworks are not something that are completely dangerous. That being said, we are going to do our best to not test that theory. We are only helpful if we keep ourselves safe.” He tapped the display. “Hazards are as follows: First up, the seasonal flaring from the two suns are not a significant hazard to vessels equipped with shields, especially larger ones. Risk increases with lack of proper shielding. Small vessels of shuttle class or civilian class are only at risk if they have less than Class 3 shields. Our Class IV should be able to compensate for the flares and then some. Second. Gravitational shearing effects from direct line of space between the two suns. This is an alley of significant danger, people. These are dangerous to any vessel of any size. Area is marked with buoys and communication beacons, so stay clear unless I specifically take you in. Clear?” and the aviators nodded.

Lardel, CAG

Lycan, he’d be taking over Delta for IRIS this mission, raised his hand. “Colonel, as a precaution should we set up an extra line in front of these buoys? Just in case someone gets too close while going around our perimeter? I don’t relish the idea of having to save someone from between those stars.”

IRIS was looking at the numbers. “I’m sure Cpt. Andreassen will be sending her own female crew. We have more transports than the Chimera, and not quite enough female crew to cover S&R teams for each. We could really team up on this to be more effective.” It wouldn’t be a popular concept, it never was, but the numbers wouldn’t change, and it would make the rescue go much faster and smoother. Lives came before the rest.

Lunan stepped over the threshold of the hanger as Lardel finished his briefing, “You seem to have everything in order here Colonel, do you need anything from me?”

-Lt. Commander Lunan Farrah: XO-

Lardel looked over at the ship’s XO and said “Yeah, Commander, we do. We need all Intel on the liner and her crew and passengers in real time, so that we can prep and modify our deployment as needed. Also, IRIS just pointed out an opportunity for some joint Marine-Fleet operational time. You guys may need to transport those people off the liner in a pinch, and we are planning on operating with a female-only Search and Rescue Team for this op. We are short personnel. If you have anyone in the Chimera’s crew that is willing to fill in, they can come with us. What do you think, Commander?”

Lardel, CAG

OOC: Impressive thread y’all .. Gene

“I’ll have a look over the personnel files with the CO and get back to you as soon as I can Colonel, I understand you’re on a tight schedule, but I’m afraid you’ll have to bear with us.”

-Lt. Commander Lunan Farrah: XO-

Lardel looked at Farrah and then said flatly “Everyone out. Get prep started.”

IRIS knew that tone, so did every other marine in that room. No one said a thing, they just got up and filed out as if they were launching the birds right this moment. IRIS was the last one out, shutting the door behind her. She slid down the ladder and onto the flight deck, barking orders as she did.

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

When the last Marine filed out, Lardel turned and went to the coffee pot. “Cup of coffee, Lieutenant Commander?” he asked just as flatly.

Lardel, CAG

“I’m not really overly familiar with coffee from Earth, but I’ll give anything a try once.”

-Lt. Commander Lunan Farrah: XO-

Lardel nodded and poured a cup, handing it to the Chimera’s XO. He then filled one for himself and turned and looked at the XO. “So. I will have to ‘bear with you’. will I? Ok.” and he nodded and moved over to his desk and took a seat, indicating the XO should sit as well.

“Now, I don’t know if you meant that to sound dismissive, Commander… but it did. So I am going to assume that that wasn’t your intention, and try to have a productive discussion here. Now then. Our first meeting didn’t go smoothly. I do not want this to be a habit. Now then… I want to give you some advice. When dealing with anyone in a professional setting, it would behoove you to make sure that when you speak, you think first. For example? Just now at my mission brief. A simple ‘I will see what I can do about that.’ would have gone so much further than ‘I’ll have a look but we’re busy so bear with us.’ That makes it sound like we are an afterthought… a minor inconvenience rather than a partner in the mission.” Lardel leaned back and looked at the XO while he sipped his coffee. “So are we, Commander? Are my Marines a mild annoyance for you? Think you can do all the missions this ship is going to be tasked with by yourself? And I’m being sincere… no joking. If that is what you believe, then let me know and we can go from there. But I need to know where your head is at with regards to my unit.”

Lardel, CAG

Lunan bristled slightly, he hadn’t come across anyone this short, in the temperamental sense, since his days back on Bajor, ‘Forgive me Colonel, I suppose I’m just not used to Marines on an exploratory vessel just yet.’ He sipped the coffee.

-Lt. Commander Lunan Farrah: XO-

Lardel looked at him for a moment and then said “That’s no excuse for being unprofessional, Commander. And if you aren’t used to Marines, perhaps you should consider getting used to them… or perhaps finding a vessel that won’t test your ability to adapt as much as this one apparently does.” His tone was flat, but not heated. It seemed to be more… disappointed… rather than angry or irritated. “And you didn’t answer my question. Are the Black Sheep partners? Or are we an afterthought to be trotted out when it strikes your fancy? Again… I’m not being flippant. I sincerely wish to know how you, as the Executive Officer of the vessel, see myself and my Marines being utilized going forward.”

Lardel, CAG

Lardel, CAG

“What’s the human saying, we’re all one big happy family Colonel,” Lunan stood and extended a hand, “I hope it can stay that way.”

-Lt. Commander Lunan Farrah: XO-

Lardel looked at him, but didn’t take the offered hand. “If we are such a family, then please get me the Intel and the personnel I asked for. Then maybe we can work on the ‘happy’ part. Thank you, Commander. Now if you will excuse me, I have an Op to prep.” He tapped an icon on his desk interface and the door behind Farrah slid open.

Lardel, CAG

Lunan gave a curt nod, “You know where to find me Colonel,” he turned on his heel and made his way to the CO’s ready room.

-Lt. Commander Lunan Farrah: XO-

IRIS looked up as the Colonel’s office door opened very shortly after it had been closed. She watched the XO of the ship leave the office and file out. She didn’t know if that was good or bad. She turned back to the prep work she was doing. If Hannibal was in a mood, she didn’t want to be accused of slacking. She oversaw the conversion of the troop transports to civilian assist mode. They loaded rations and water in, blankets, and basic med kits. Anyone needing major medical attention would go in Beta Squads SAR shuttles. They may not need the basic supplies, but there was no telling exactly what state they would find the crew and passengers in when they arrived. As far as she knew there hadn’t been any direct contact with the Empress yet. She would need to get with Shinzo about his squad very soon. She knew them, knew their training and such, but he knew them better.

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

A few moments later, her comms chirped. =/\= IRIS. Get Oni. Both of you get in here. =/\=

Lardel, CAG

=/\=Aye, Sir.=/\= she gave instructions to Bubba and climbed the ladder up to the lift to the ATC Tower. She stuck her head in the door. “Oni. Colonel wants us in his office, now.” The way she said it was enough for Shinzo to know it wouldn’t be wise to keep Hannibal waiting.

IRIS headed back down, knowing he was right behind her. She stepped back into the CAG’s office, grabbing another cup of coffee as she did.

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

Oni smiled as he took off the headset. “Iris! Good timing. My shift just got over and I was about to come down and help. I’ll be on your heels!” With that Oni got up and followed Iris to Lardel’s office.

Major Shinzo Honda, ATC Commander.

As the two walked in Hannibal looked up and said “Sit. I want a word.” and he waited for the two to be seated.

“Yes sir”

IRIS set down the pot of coffee and sat in the chair beside onizuka.

“Oni, you’re on the stick for this op. I don’t give a flying rat’s a$$ what the doctor has to say. Something about this is making my jowls jump, and I don’t like it. IRIS, you are still going to handle interface with the liner crew and passengers until we get a better understanding of why they are all female. Oni, your job is going to be specifically to keep people out of the gravity well between the two stars. If anyone gets close, disable ‘em and tow them out.”

Lardel, CAG

Shinzo beamed with delight. “Thank you sir and Roger that. I WILL do my best.” He was a very happy man right now.

Shinzo Honda ATC Commander

“I’ve got Oni’s SAR runabout ready to take casualties. They might want to transport, but with the radiation I’d rather be prepared. I’ve got our Wingnuts preparing kits to help out with repairs if necessary. We’re loading emergency supplies into the troop transports. They may refuse to leave the liner.”

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

Oni looked confused. “Why would they not want to leave the liner?” He said turning towards Iris. “I thought they were in danger?”
