=/\= Squadron Leaders to CAG office immediately. =/\= came the ship-wide announcement. Lardel was in his office finalizing the mission briefing before anyone showed up. In a few minutes, the eight seats in front of the display screen would be filled with aviators. Lardel made sure the Marines had coffee available and that the system for the operation was cued up and ready.

Siraa locked out her computer and exited her office. She made the short walk down to Lardel’s office. “Colonel,” she said by way of greeting on her way to the coffee. She poured a cup and then took a seat in her usual place on the outside of the front row.

“Captain.” Lardel said without looking up. “I’ll need you to remain behind after the Briefing, by the way. Also, start pulling a list of all female personnel we have… aviator and support. We’ll need it, I think.”

Shinzo didn’t attend but he really wanted to. He was on duty in the ATC Tower per the Colonels orders until he’s better. But this gig wasn’t as bad Shinzo remembered it. Maybe it’s because of being sober or his new outlook on life, or his new girlfriend! Could be all these but he didn’t hate it anymore, he didn’t like it either, but he didn’t hate it. If push came to shove and he couldn’t fly anymore, this job wouldn’t be too bad.

Siraa looked up, her antenna waving with curiosity, but knowing details would be forth coming after she simply replied, “Aye, Colonel.” She turned back to her PaDD and pulled up the full 214 roster and filtered it for all female personnel. She continued to filter based on position and rank and then read for any special skills listed.

Once all the flight leaders were in, caffinated, and seated; Lardel walked to the display screen. “Alright, listen up. The Chimera is now en route to the Ceti-Gamma Binary system. No planets or stations, but there is a great deal of cosmic radiation creating a natural light and fireworks display. There the ship has been tasked with the assistance and-or rescue of a civilian passenger liner named Empress. There are as of now an unknown number of passengers and crew aboard. Ships engines have failed after an also unknown ‘incident’-” and he made Air quotes with his fingers, “- in their Engineering bay.It was stressed to the Captain that the entire crew and all passengers are female. Why, we do not know. Nor do we know ow if that will pose a difficulty to rescue operations.” He tapped the display and brought up a model of the Empress’s location.

“Ship is here. The Black Sheep are tasked with setting a perimeter around the operations area. We will also be assisting in search and rescue operations as needed. We can anticipate other civilian craft in the area trying to lend assistance. We are to be mindful that the operation may be broadcast, so we treat everyone with professionalism and courtesy. Copy?” The assembled aviators nodded and said “Copy.” in unison. “Good. We will set out initial perimeter at a hundred thousand kilometers. Be prepared to adjust that in or out as needed. Rescue transports will be commanded by IRIS. IRIS, we don’t know why everyone on the ship is female, but we are gonna do out best to accommodate the existing model. Crew all transports with female Mardines. Pull from ground crew if you have to. Echo Squadron. You will be dedicated overwatch of the transports. They are your only mission. Bravo, Charlie, and Delta. You are the security perimeter. Once we are on station, no one comes in without permission. Alpha, we are going to clear out or assist any other vessels on scene that are aiding the liner. If they aren’t helping, we are getting them out of the way. Everyone clear?”

IRIS nodded. She had already started pulling names when Hannibal told her to earlier. Now she had an idea of how to pair groups together. “Colonel, do we know what kind of effect the radiation and gravity will have on our birds?” They were used to flying in hazardous conditions, but radiation could interfere with the birds’ systems. Plus they would have civilians, possibly injured, on the transports to keep safe from it.

IC: “Unknown at this time, but if civilian cruise liners are making stops and advertising the place as a regular tourist destination, we can assume that the fireworks are not something that are completely dangerous. That being said, we are going to do our best to not test that theory. We are only helpful if we keep ourselves safe.” He tapped the display. “Hazards are as follows: First up, the seasonal flaring from the two suns are not a significant hazard to vessels equipped with shields, especially larger ones. Risk increases with lack of proper shielding. Small vessels of shuttle class or civilian class are only at risk if they have less than Class 3 shields. Our Class IV should be able to compensate for the flares and then some. Second. Gravitational shearing effects from direct line of space between the two suns. This is an alley of significant danger, people. These are dangerous to any vessel of any size. Area is marked with buoys and communication beacons, so stay clear unless I specifically take you in. Clear?” and the aviators nodded.

Lunan stepped over the threshold of the hanger as Lardel finished his briefing, “You seem to have everything in order here Colonel, do you need anything from me?”
