Charlie and Alpha squads were on call, but IRIS had ordered all aviators to bed in prep for deployment the next day. The techs were still going over all the birds and Flight Deck was getting them all lined up and ready for rapid take off.

Siraa made her way up a couple of decks, back to Shinzo’s quarters. Something was going on with him. Oh she was mad, but more she was worried, deeply concerned for him. She stopped at his door and pressed the chime.

Shinzo was in his Marine sweats working out in his room doing push-ups and the like when he heard the chime. Getting up and grabbing a towel to wipe the sweat from his face he opened the door. Looking surprised. “Iris? Please come in. Can I get you anything to drink?”

Major, Shinzo Honda Bravo Squadron Leader

Siraa stepped in and the door slid shut. “A cup of hot water would be wonderful. 90°C.” She strode across the room and sat down on the couch. She studied him acutely, her gaze assessing. She glanced at his hand. “How are you, Shinzo?”

“Roger that. Make yourself comfortable.” And he turned and went to the replicator. “Cup of water, hot, 90 Celsius and put it in something that can withstand the temperature.”

While the replicator worked is magic he heard her other question and looked down in embarrassment. “I..I..uh.. feel better. Thank you.” Before he continued the replicator finished and he grabbed the water and brought it over and handed it to her. “I still don’t know how you drink something that hot.”

Siraa grinned, “This is how water is to steep tea. I suppose though it is a learned cultural trait. I don’t know how you stand ice water” Siraa gave a mock shudder.

He sat down on the couch next to her. “I have quit drinking and cold turkey too. The CMO is helping me with my withdrawing process. I didn’t know it was that bad. Which in turn made everything else worse. I never meant for any of this too happen but in a way and for the most part.... I’m glad it did. It literally and figuratively changed my life and for the better in most ways.” He paused to take a sip of his apple juice that was already there.

“Great in the sense that I can go back to being the normal me. Great in the way that I might have found love for the first time. Great in the way that now I can be even more dependable to others and myself. The downside to all of this is that I’m more than likely finished in the Marines. Unless they put me behind a desk somewhere.”

Frost whitw brows rose and she smiled. “Shinzo,” she set a hand over his, “That is wonderful. You deserve someone to share your life with. When you are ready, you must tell me about them.” She lifted her mug and drank the hot water with the same expression most drank coffee. “Do not count your career over yet. You have work ahead of you, yes, but you were sick in a way. If you take the time to heal properly, then you can speak to the Colonel. Do not rush to conclusions. Your career might change, but doesn’t mean it is over.” Siraa was trying to be cautiously optimistic. She nor Lardel wanted to lose him, but what was best for Shinzo was most important.

Looking finally into her eyes. “Look Siraa. I’m sorry for the problems that I’ve caused you, the Colonel and our teammates. I never meant for any of this to happen but it did. But like I said, I’m glad it did. I’ll be working with a therapist to find new ways to decompress after work and missions and most importantly, I get to know myself once again. Now it will be a long process but one I’m willing to tackle so I can be the best that I can be.” Taking another sip and sitting the glass back down. “How have you been? How’s your shoulder?

She nodded, it was a hard thing to do, to just quit, but it was the best. “I am glad the doctor is helping you. I like her. She is very competent, and has… oh what do you call it? A kind bedside manner. I think Ebil would like her.” Ebil was one of Siraa’s future spouses. “You know we are all here to help you, to support you in however you need.”

She looked at him directly, “I accept your apology, but know that I do not think less of you. You have been a big brother to me, and seen me through tough times. I am very concerned and worried for you Shinzo because you are important.”

“Good as new. It was sore for a bit.” Siraa shrugged her shoulder and moved her arm about. “Fox is quite pleased with herself. But I think it is a good reminder for me to know I am not the best at everything. Challenge makes us stronger.”

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

“Thank you for everything you’ve said so far. It really means allot to me. I’m facing some big Fox’s, I mean challenges myself.” He chuckled at his little joke. “But like you, in ready to face them and I know that I’m not alone. Thanks to you and the Doctor. I’ve got a great team beside me. And once we’re both ok with everything in our relationship, I will introduce you to her. I mean, I could be totality misinterpreting everything.”

Sirra smiled, “Take your time and enjoy the journey with her. Fleeting or permenant, such connections are precious.” She picked up her cup and drank. “When things have settled and you feel up to it, you should talk to Hannibal. He is our colonel and our CAG, but he is also your friend. Whatever the outcome for you needs to be, he will support you. You know that?”

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

“I will do that. I promise. I have no problem talking to him, just right now I’m too embarrassed and still to new in this therapy to say anything for certain, but know that I will.” He took a couple sips of his juice before continuing. “So. What else do you want to talk about or do? You want to watch a movie or something? I’ve got monopoly around here.

Shinzo Honda

“I came to see how you were. To make sure you know I am not angry and that I am here for you. So what would you like?” She gave him a sisterly teasing look. “If you have plans with a certain someone, I don’t want to intrude.”

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

“I understand and you’re not intruding. We have nothing planned for today. I’ve been trying to keep myself busy to keep my mind off of wanting to drink, and.. well not to drink. I’m trying to change my routine to help with the withdrawals. The medicine helps, but it’s hard still. So with you being here and just talking to me, it’s a huge welcome as now I don’t have to think of anything new to do. And I’m glad that you’re not angry with me. That is a huge load of my now, very wondering mind. But, I can’t think of anything to do, now. How does that even work?” He chuckled.
