The trip to town was uneventful outside the concerned stares. After a walk of about 20 minutes they were met by the aforementioned marines. Which just appeared to eleven ‘fit’ lizards with a combination of side arms that appeared to be gunpowder based single shot device and a ‘rifle’ like weapon that seemed to be a repeating speargun. While neither were particularly advanced, but they didn’t have to be to kill at this range.

The leader of the marines, a particular stout gentleman who carried only a side arm and a trident, gestured at the group of star-fleet officers. “Strangers,” He said solemnly “I have been instructed to take you to Valron son of Aborus, his Highness, guardian of the gems, sailor of the Clearwater, ruler of all Nelaycross.”

Amy nodded “Thank you.” She said “I look forward to meeting the ruler of Nelaycross.” She said taking the lead.

“Your weapons will not be necessary.” Although he did nothing to indicate that he was going to take them away from the officers.

Amy nodded “Of course, we’ll keep them low and out of the way.” She said “It is our standard protocol to have weapons when on an away mission. One never knows when one is on a strange planet.” She said politely.

The officer hissed low under his breath as if this was not the preferred response but it was not an issue he was willing to press at this time.

Kate looked suspiciously at the the warrior, it was never a good sign when you were told that your weapons would not be necessary. It was usually in those cases that they were needed the most. But she hadn’t taken back her rifle, and was trying to give off not too threatening of a vibe.

Amy gave Kate a knowing nod that said stay alert and use the weapon if needed. But keep a low profile.

OOC> The only ones that were originally were sent were Graham and the marines. But if anyone else wants to jump in, feel free to join. I’m going to poke some of the roster as well to get them posting again.

2nd Lt Hawkins - Marine XO

The marines took positions outside of the away team as the the stout officer lead them thorough the town to a building that could double as a castle, although the defensive ramparts, gates, and partitions were not present. Through a corridor and into a great hall, where a cordon of noble Nelay and assorted ‘commoner’ stood in reverent silence before a throne encrusted with what appeared to be seashells and land gems and crystals of varying clarity.

On the throne sat an older Nelay who likely was this Valron. He wore a crown of gems and a sash of gold. “I am Valron.” He announced. “What is it you desire?”

“We are here to meet you and learn about your people.” Amy said “I am Lt Cmdr Amy Prescott of the USS Chimera. This is 2nd Lt Kate Hawkins, and several of her men as well as Lt. Graham one of our Star Fleet Officers.” She said “We come in peace.” She added “I’ve heard that you have had problems with our kind in the past. I hope that we can make a different impression on you.”

“Your people are thieves, liars, kidnappers, and now murderers. These are things the Nelay do not want to learn. I doubt that a few pretty words from a few air-breathers can make much of a difference.” There was a chorus of combined hisses and more than a few of the assembled Nelay pounding their tridents and walking sticks into the ground creating a small roar. There was a smaller contingent of Nelay that didn’t not move to support his Highness. “We work to collect your ransom, further ‘lessons’ are not necessary.”

“We’re not here to collect a ransom.” Amy said clearly concerned about what was going on here “Why would we be wanting a ransom. Has someone been taken from you?” She asked clearly concerned but keeping her demeanor calm and collected.

As the Nelay around them started hissing, and pounding their tridents and sticks on the ground, Kate couldn’t help but feel the hairs on the back of her neck stand up. With the crowd getting aggravated, it would only take a hair to push them over the edge. But at the same time, she didn’t want to be the reason why they went over the edge.

Amy looked at those gathered around her and spun around “I am unarmed.” She said “I have nothing to hide from you that will harm you. These are people from my ship, they are under my direct orders not to do anything.

“I am unarmed, but the tridents of my guards could kill, do not pretend that you being weaponless, means all of you are defenseless.”

Holding her left hand out to the side, she gestured for her marines to keep calm, and keep their weapons lowered.

A female Nelay who stood near Valron spoke. “Father, your words gain us nothing now. They want to talk… perhaps we should let them.”

“So be it.” He tilted his head in deference to his daughter. “You speak as if the problem is not on-going. Do you not know what your own people do?” He paused. “I did not get the impression the Or-Ris-On empire was quite so vast.”

He awaited the response.

Amy looked at Valron “Or-ris-on?” She asked glancing at Kate and keeping her cane in front of her with her hands crossed across the top of it “I’m not familiar with this empire. I am familiar with the Orion empire.” She said “Tell me more about these Or-ris-ons.” She said “The Federation, normally does not come to cause trouble. We want to meet knew people and learn from them not harm them or make trouble.” She said knowing that there were some out there that did like to cause trouble, but they were few and far between.

“Your pronunciation of the word is better than mine, Orisons, Orions, the name could be onions for all I care.” The king squinted at Amy, then the group for a moment. An advisor who was not the daughter whispered in his ear for a few moments.

Kate looked over at who she was assumed his daughter, as she had addressed Valron as father. She would be a good gauge for how bad things would get, especially if she was acting as the voice of reason.

2nd Lt Hawkins - Marine XO

Amy looked at Kate for a brief moment, this could go south very quickly.

“Your coloration is different to some degree, this is true, but skin color means little to us.> He paused, “We have lost much in trusting the words of others. You ask me to trust again with no proof that you are different than these others.”

“Why do you wish to deceive us so. We are unfamiliar to lies of this magnitude. There is no point to this,we have no more Marines to march to their deaths, a deception is unnecessary we know we can not stand against you.”

Liam looked over to the XO and then back to Valron asking premission to speak. Maybe actions would speak louder then words.

Lt. Graham, CIO

Bump....

Amy nodded to Graham to go ahead and speak. Maybe Valron would listen to him more than he would her. She was quickly thinking of a way to show them that they were trust worthy.

Liam nodded to Amy as he took a step forward and turned his attention to Valron. As he took a step forward he raised his hands to show the Nelay that he meant them no harm. “If you grown to not trust the spoken word of humans then let us show you that we can be trusted by our actions”

Lt. Graham, CIO

There was a combination hiss snort that came from the King, that was soon taken up by every person in the chamber. It took a moment but the Star-Fleet officers would recognize it as laughter. “You are at least funnier that the other bunch of only air breathers.”

“If you wish to be judged by your actions, what actions are you about to undertake?”

Kate was curious too. What had Graham just committed them to doing? She hated surprises, but she hated surprises from people on her own side even more.

Amy looked at Graham and asked him directly “What do you have in mind Lt?” She asked hoping that it would show the Nelaycross could trust them.

“Let our people stand together with your people to put an end to the trouble you’re facing” he took a breath and quickly glanced back at amy and Kate, and then back to Valron. “Our Marines and security officers can helpprotect your people.”

Valron looked at Graham for a moment his mouth forming a slight sneer that revealed a surprising array of teeth that was shark-like. “What can you four (or more) do that a full legion of our marines couldn’t.” He hid his teeth for a moment. “Five hundred brave marines vaporized in minutes. We couldn’t see them - firing from hundreds of meters away with unerring accuracy. All we saw were the glowing lances of light that ended with a puff of dust that was one soldier dead.”

“Or is it your intention to help us mine more minerals for these criminals.”

Amy spoke from where she was “We have extensive scanners, we can locate them before they ever get here.” She said “We can bring additional personnel down to assist in the protection.” She said “As for your assumption that we want to mine minerals for this enemy, we don’t do that. We may discuss later, the ability to establish a trade agreement, otherwise we will leave you in peace.” Amy said and looked at Kate “Have the Chimera start long range scans for the Orions.” She said

Amy spoke up =^=Captain, it seems that the Orions have been causing some trouble for these folks. I would suggest scanning all space around the planet and on the planet.=^= She said

Amy looked at the leader “When was the last time the Orions were here?” She asked trying to get a frame of reference “Do they come back on a regular basis or is it random?”

“The Oh-rize-on,” He stared off for a moment. “They only send messages now… since our last attack - that was over two weeks ago. I guess they don’t find us timid any longer. Previously they came weekly to trade, then to threaten and intimidate.” He stared off towards the water. “We paid a lot for that water wheel.” There was a fairly advanced looking hydroponic energy plant.

“XO,” Kate said leaning into the Commander and dropping her voice. “If they attacked the Orion’s the last time they came through, they could have left to gather reinforcements before coming back.”
