OOC: Absolutely. Let’s continue. :)IC:
“Of course,” Fodder chattered as the turbolift deposited them onto deck 3, “Alpha Sickbay is right through these doors here, your office is just off the main treatment area and your quarters are down the hall. Your quarters first or do you just want to head into sickbay?”
~NE Fodder~
Javal demonstrated some fairly noticeable interest in every detail of the ship as he followed closely behind the NE.
“Allow me a moment to deposit my belongings in my quarters and I shall be with you presently,” he replied before providing himself access to his room.
The quarters that greeted him upon his entry were a fair bit more spacious than the compact 2-man Cadet’s quarters he had grown accustomed to on his training cruise on the Challenger.
Laying his bag down on the table nearest the bed, Javal glanced around his new abode. At this moment, some eight years ago he never would have anticipated being in the position that he was in now.
It was at that moment that he heard a subtle beep come from within the duffle bag. Javal promptly unzipped the bag to reveal his personal PADD which indicated that a couple of new messages had come in from his old colleagues on the Challenger. Making a mental note to come back later to read them once everything else was settled, he stepped outside, his hands clasped behind his back.
“Ready to proceed, Mr. Fodder,” he said simply, his eyes pointed in the direction of Sickbay with a quiet sort of eagerness.
[Lieutenant Junior Grade Javal - CMO]
“Right, follow me to Alpha Sickbay Doctor,” NE Fodder remarked with a grin.
Walking shortly down the corridor to a pair of doors that clearly were marked with the medical insignia, the NE stepped in, arriving in the main treatment area.
~NE Fodder~
The Vulcan doctor took a pause as he passed through the Caduceus-clad doors of Alpha Sickbay into the main treatment ward. He raised an eyebrow when he saw the impressive array of seventeen biobeds arrayed all about the room before him, one or two being obscured here or there by medical techs and patients going about their business.
“These Mjolnir-classes appear to be well equipped for the operations expected of such vessels,” Javal said to the NE as he observed the room. “As contrasted to the scientific vessel I was assigned to previously for my training cruise, the layout and crew complement of this medical wing appear to be able to take on a significantly larger quantity of wounded personnel at one time than the Challenger’s sickbay would have been able to triage. And that is not even accounting for the redundant medical wing on deck 26.”
He took a couple of steps forward and peered in the direction of the staff offices, were he could see what looked to be the Chief Medical Officer’s office from a distance. As he observed, his train of thought continued on, undisturbed by what his eyes were taking in at each passing moment.
“I suspect therefore that the protocols for medical emergencies onboard this ship also be stand to be in some contrast to what I had encountered during my training. To your knowledge, did the previous CMO provide any advice or materials by which her successor could be…brought up to speed, I believe the term is?” he asked.
While it might not easily have shown itself, Javal’s inexperience as a senior medical officer was something that he was often reminded of, and it made him think all the more clearly on the similarities between his situation and his old mentor Dr. Ven Miya’s. It would be logical to pull from whatever sources of experience he could find to counter this deficit, he thought to himself.
[Lieutenant Junior Grade Javal - CMO]
“I’m not sure on that,” NE Fodder replied, “But perhaps we can see if the head nurse is in. She’s been on board for a few tours now, so she might have some of that insight for you.”
~NE Fodder~
OOC: I have a few NPC nurse characters that I used to have when I was a CMO if you’d like, I can trot one out for these purposes or you can feel free to invent your own. :)
OOC: I think I have an idea for an NPC nurse character, if you don’t mind me introducing her.
At just about that moment, an Andorian NC stepped out from the nurse’s station nearby. She had the look of someone who had seen many a patient walk through those doors, and the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer in the Marine Corps to boot.
Approaching the two officers, she made her presence known by offering a short salute - nothing super fancy, but enough to show that she was a Marine through and through.
“Lieutenant Javal, I am NC Vorao Sh’chionness, head nurse on the USS Chimera. Welcome to Sickbay, sir,” the NC said.
Javal returned the NC’s salute before cusping his hands behind his back once more.
“Thank you, NC. Your timing is very punctual as I was explaining to NE Fodder here that it would be most logical for me to familiarize myself with the requisite medical department protocols aboard the Chimera as its new CMO as soon as it is convenient.”
NC Sh’chionness nodded at the request in a matter that suggested that she already knew that it was coming.
“I’ve already taken the liberty of uploading all of the specifics of our protocols to the CMO office’s library computer, sir. I can also prepare our personnel for a departmental meeting as soon as your onboarding tasks are complete,” the NC replied smartly.
“Very good. Have the department meet me in the staff conference room at 0300 hours,” Javal said.
He found himself rather intrigued by the competent manner by which the head nurse conducted herself - the many tours that NE Fodder had referred to, coupled with the stringent Marine Corps training, seemed to have produced a sense of discipline in NC Sh’chionness that was quite admirable to Javal’s Vulcan sensibilities.
With that, the NC nodded and headed off to pass on the news, leaving Javal with NE Fodder once more. He glanced at the chronometer and noted the time before turning over to speak with his tour guide.
“It appears that the time for my meeting with Captain Andreassen is steadily approaching. Would you mind leading the way to the bridge, Mr. Fodder?”
[Lieutenant Junior Grade Javal - CMO]
“Of course Doctor,” NE Fodder nodded, “Captain Andreassen indicated she would be completing some paperwork in her ready room which is just off the Combat Information Center or CIC as we call it, if you’d like to follow me, we can head there now.”
