The Triton was a simple vessel - a Type-VIII shuttlecraft the make of which Dr. Javal knew fairly well. He could recall similar vessels being flown in rather frequently to his old posting at Starbase 211. The shuttles would ferry patients from as far as the Cardassian border, filled with civilians and Starfleet personnel alike, seeking relief from their wounds sustained years before in the Dominion War. During those days, Javal observed in those patients what could only appear to be some sort of desperate yearning for answers for their underlying conditions, and for some unexplainable reason, he found himself relating to them - even though logic would dictate that his circumstances and theirs were so far apart that no reasonable comparison ought to be made. Yet, as absurd as it might be to the Vulcan mind, that thought persisted in the mind of the young Javal, who had found himself so far away from a position that, all else equal, he ought to have gotten with the Vulcan Science Academy.

The doctor removed his gaze for a moment from the viewscreen he sat beside, and looked down briefly at his lapel. On his uniform collar were adorned two pips: one golden, the other black. Perhaps, for a few years, his failure to join the illustrious ranks of the Academy left uncertainty in his mind as to the the outcome of his career - but the symbol of his rank reminded him of an answer that he himself had been inquiring after: a purpose and a duty yet to fulfill. Starfleet Academy and the crew of the USS Challenger had given him a brand new chance, and he would take charge of it.

“Lieutenant?” came the voice of a young woman, situated just beside him at the controls of the Triton.

Javal, taken out of his introspections as he was wont to do, looked over at the NE. “Yes NE, is there something that you require of me?”

“Oh nothing, it just looked like you were spacing out a little bit there. You wouldn’t want to miss seeing the Chimera for the first time, would you?”

At this, Javal merely raised an eyebrow in a way that communicated that he was utterly unfamiliar with the human colloquialism she had just employed in her sentence. Catching on that her question may have just been lost on the Vulcan doctor, she turned her attention to something that would get through to him.

“Well, speaking of which…Take a gander at that, Doc!” the eager pilot exclaimed, taking a hand off of the controls to point rather wildly in the direction of the ship coming into view off of the Triton’s bow.

“Indeed, there it appears to be…” Javal said, in a tone that made him seem disinterested, yet his body began to lurch forward communicating almost the exact opposite. Almost.

Before the eyes of the two Starfleet officers appeared the impressive Mjolnir-class carrier that sprawled out before them, its deck glistening a brilliant silver-white as its duranium-tritanium armor plate reflected the brilliant rays of a nearby star.

“So this is the Mjolnir-class. I read some of the technical specifications before boarding the shuttle. Its defensive capabilities are quite extensive, as are its crew support systems,” Javal said, peering over his new posting as the shuttle flew overhead.

“Indeed, she’s a fine bird. Here’s hoping that most of those things won’t need to be used, but then again, why would the Federation build something like this if there wasn’t a need for it somewhere?” the pilot mused.

“An apt observation, NE. It may be postulated that after the impact of the Dominion War on Starfleet tactics, serious consideration was made on how to best mitigate threats to the security of the Federation. The construction of mobile fighter platforms such as the Chimera would likely ensure that Starfleet would have long-range escorts at the ready to support their more remote diplomatic and peacekeeping missions where required, as well as serving as a form of power projection in those systems,” Javal said as he glanced over every detail of the ship’s hull.

“Yeah, I think my department head may have told me that at some point or another…” the pilot replied before making a little smirk. “Heh, perhaps you’ll get along quite well with the Marine types we host on here. They’re all business, just like you…sir!”

Javal once again made a quizzical kind of look to the NE sitting beside him, which the pilot subsequently laughed off to herself before beginning to bring the shuttle in to the flight deck.

“Alright, Doc, this is it. I just received docking clearance. Just another minute here and I can officially welcome you aboard the Chimera!”

At that moment, a slight lurch was felt within the shuttle as the tractor beam began to take over for Javal’s pilot before gingerly guiding the Triton into the belly of the carrier.

“Nice flying with you, Doc! Someone from the Chimera’s staff who is more familiar with this orientation thing than I am will be right with you. So, without further ado, I bid you safe travels!” the pilot smiled, tossing a wave to Javal as he began to sling his packed duffel bag over his shoulder.

“You have my gratitude, NE. Live long and prosper,” Javal replied courteously, bringing his free hand to make the characteristic salute of his people before making his egress from the shuttle. Now, only time would tell what his new assignment would have in store for him.

OOC: Hello Chimera people! To those who don’t know me, my name’s Stephen and I will be playing as the ship’s new CMO, fresh out of the Academy here at STF. :) I look forward to getting to know you all, and having some fun exploring the galaxy along the way.

[Lieutenant Junior Grade Javal - CMO]

OOC: Welcome! If you have any questions about the ship or the Simm, be sure to drop me an email. I’ll answer what I can. :)

NE C. Fodder entered the flight deck with a PaDD in hand.

“Lieutenant Javal? Or Doctor Javal?” He fumbled a bit over his words, overthinking what the new CMO might prefer to be called by, nobody had given him a handbook on this, “I’m NE Fodder, Captain Andreassen has charged me with seeing you getting settled on the Chimera. I can take you to your quarters if you like or a tour of the ship or we can go straight to sickbay or you can meet with the Captain right away. The choice is yours.”

OOC: Nice to meet you! I’ll definitely reach out to you if I have any questions.

Javal waited patiently for the young NE to finish his introductions. Although he now outranked Fodder, Javal was reminded of the fact that, not too long ago, he was a Cadet on the Challenger, who likely would have been in the same position that the NE found himself in now.

“I would take the tour option, as first hand experience in surveying new environs is preferable to second-hand technical manuals…” the Vulcan said, taking a quick glance around the busy flight deck.

“…and as for your first query Mr. Fodder,” he said, looking back at his nervous young guide, “You may address me as Doctor if it is your preference. It is, above all other considerations, my primary vocation,” he said in a simple manner. It seemed that, in other words, Javal wasn’t one to stand all too much on Starfleet-regulation ceremony, a peculiarity easily masked by his otherwise typically rigid Vulcan discipline.

“Right, well let’s get started, do you have anywhere specific you’d like to see first sir?” Fodder asked, looking a bit more relieved he hadn’t put his foot in it while talking to the new CMO.

~NE Fodder~

“Perhaps it would be most prudent that we begin with a survey of the ship’s scientific and medical capabilities. A tour of the lab facilities and Main Sickbay should suffice for the present,” the doctor replied, hoisting his bag over his shoulder.
