Sara walked down the hall of her new ship. She carried the PaDD with her transfer orders under her arm. She was to report to Captain Sarah Allen, USS Chimera NCC-98730. Sara reporting to Sarah. This wasn’t going to be awkward. She walked like an officer, back straight, long strides, she looked like she had purpose. She came to a set of doors that hissed open to reveal the bridge. She stepped out to see her new station. An NE science officer approached her. “Can I help you Ma’am? Are you the new first officer?” She stared him down. “Yes. I’m Lt Cmdr Sara Kiernan. Don’t call me Ma’am. Sir, Commander, or Lieutenant Commander will do. Where is the Captain’s ready room?”
“Um. Over there Ma’… Commander.”
“Thank you.” Sara walked to the door indicated. She pressed the chime next to the door itself and heard it ring.

“Enter!” Sarah called out as she stood looking at the display panel. She was going over the latest ship status reports, and she was watching as the status board turned green. “I’ve got a ship to get ready to depart here shortly and can’t keep taking these delays. When is the…” she said turning from the status board towards who entered. “… and you are not who I was expecting. What can I do for you Commander?”

Captain Allen - CO

“Sir. I’m your new first officer. Lieutenant Commander Sara Kiernan reporting for duty.” She handed over her transfer orders. She couldn’t help but wonder why the Captain would not have been expecting her. She knew that COs kept busy, but still. Perhaps the transfer orders would jog her memory. Or perhaps she had only been told Commander Kiernan and assumed Sara was a man.

Sarah just shook her head, someone at command must have had a sense of humor. “Of course Commander, please have a seat,” she said gesturing to the chairs in front of her desk. She took her own seat behind her desk, and added the PADD in her hand to the stack. “I’m sorry about that, I was expecting an update from the Chief regarding ship readiness. I hope that your trip here was uneventful.”

Captain Allen - CO

Sara sat down. “I understand sir. Ship’s captains have plenty to do. If anything my trip was too uneventful. Not even a scrape on landing. I hope I’m not interrupting sir. But my orders are to report directly to you.”

“It is no problem at all, have a seat Commander,” Sarah said as she tapped a few commands on the status board signing off on a last minute report that had come in. She took the transfer orders offered by Sara and placed them on her desk.

“So Commander, tell me about yourself. What brings you to the Chimera?”

Captain Allen - CO

“Transfer orders, sir.” Sara smiled. “The position came open, and having spent several years as a CSO, I thought I had sufficient command experience to apply. When I was promoted to Lt Cmdr, they handed me orders to report here.”
