Sarah couldn’t help herself as she got off the turbolift and stepped into Main Engineering. With Orion’s looking down somewhere, this was not a good time for main power to be out and working on backups.

“Where’s the chief? What are we looking at?” Sarah headed towards the warp core pushing up the sleeves of her uniform.

Captain Allen - CO

Ensign on the Spot turned and shook his head in the negative fashion. “The dilithum crystals have given up the ghost, Sir. There must have be microscopic cracks that we couldn’t detect. Better now than if we were at warp or using a lot of power if that had happened we could have lost the chamber and we would have needed to eject the core.”

He shrugged. “Right now all we need are replacement crystals and we’d be good. Of course, there isn’t a star base within 50 light so… might be a while for a re-fill.”

Sarah cursed under her breath, the crystals were practically brand new.

“Any chance of regrowing the crystals? Or salvaging enough crystals, even from the shuttles, to get us at least to warp 1?”

Captain Allen - CO

The Ensign made a face as he shook his head. “The shuttle crystals are the wrong size… maybe we could jury rig it for a couple of hours at warp 1 or 2, but then we are risking the dilithum chamber. Its a big risk for not too much gain wouldn’t make it a tenth of the way to the nearest starbase… A shuttle could make the run and back in about 3 weeks.”

Sarah shook her head, the ensign was right, but it was worth a thought. “3 weeks is to long for us to be out of commission, especially in a potentially hostile area. Do we have any other possibilities?”

The ensign tried to look hopeful. “Well maybe, if we capture the hostile ship… I’m certain they have at least a couple of crystals… if we have three good ones, we can go warp 5 maybe 6 for a few days, maybe a week.”

“It’s definitely a start. Let’s see what we can do to keep what power we have going, because otherwise we aren’t going to be up for much of a fight. Where’s the Chief anyways?”

“I can’t tell you Ma’am.” He shrugged. “She’s be working with TenKiller to try to figure out how we got into this mess in the first place.” He looked back towards the chamber.

“We’re on batteries and the impulse drive right now. It actually is a lot of power, so our basic system are fine, but all that good stuff, phasers, warp drive, shields, transporters that need tons of power aren’t working… I’ll set up a program to divert power to each system based on need. But its going to be a one at a time thing.”

Sarah nodded. She had told them to work on figuring out who the saboteur was, but she had been hoping for more results by now. The Chimer was having too many issues for her Chief Engineer to still be off playing detective. They needed answers, and solutions, not more questions.

“Do what you can Ensign. But if we are going to take over an Orion ship and steal their crystals, we are going to need more then one at a time. Preferably both shields and phasers, unless you can get really good at switching between them really fast.”

“The impulse engines have a fixed power production.” His face scrunched up of a moment as he shook his head in the negative fashion. “Its a question of math and physics… An’na I can tah, change the laws of physics.” He stared at the chamber for a moment. “Begging your pardon sir.

Heather lead the way into Engineering with Tenkiller hopefully not far behind her since they were on the same lift. “Captain,” Heather greets before turning to the ensign, “Any word on working with Science to rebuild the dilithium crystals as I requested earlier?” she had requested that aloud had she not before making her way to Tenkiller’s quarters? she thought she had.

“The crystals are a total loss.” Ensign on the Spot shook his head in the negative fashion. “the cracks are along the mid line in all of them. Even if we cut them down and reshaped them they couldn’t carry enough anti-matter to get us to break the warp barrier. We need new full sized crystals.”

“Ah Lieutenant, I’m glad you were able to join us. Any luck on finding our saboteur?

“And maybe not enough anti-matter to break the warp barrier, but how much power could we get from them? We don’t need to get to warp, but having shields and phasers at the same time would be very nice.”

OntheSpot, frowned. “Maybe, but we are talking about 10% warp power.” He looked at a screen. “Math says we’d still be significantly weaker than the pirate ship.”

“Let me worry about the tactics for us to actually over power them. How long would it take you to get the crystals in place, and systems back online?”

“30 minutes.” OntheSpot frowned, he didn’t seem too confident in that. “Maybe an hour if something doesn’t go right.” He paused. “Permission to start.”

OntheSpot when granted his leave would move about the department collecting the people and the tools needed to adapt the systems.

“Permission granted. Let me know when you are completed, I’ll be on the bridge.”

As Onthespot turned away, Sarah turned towards Heather. “See what you can do to get the most power possible out of these systems. I want to make sure that we can end this without having to worry about the Chimera.”

“Aye Captain, As for the saboteur, Tenkiller and I are still working on it. He was suppose to be here with me as well so we could talk to you about what we’ve found.” Heather said, “but I think he’s enjoying the chase.”
