Ryley watched. His initial response flicked through this head sure try it and if it’s wrong we will know when she keels over. not at all child friendly. He cleared his throat, but down the sarcasm with a face that one would associate with a bitter taste and instead said the much more appropriate. “That’s right kiddo, now find the ridge and deliver the shot”

When she was done he held his hand out for the device and pocketed it.

“Thanks for playing the Live action operation game. Any questions.”

“How soon can we expect to feel any symptoms from the vaccine, if there any?” Dalaira asked.

Ryley considered a moment and tilting his head seemed to do some quick calculations. “ about two to three hours from now, it’ll start with a fever if there are any reactions. If it goes from a mild fever to a high one then call sickbay especially in the kid here,” he nodded his head at his assistant.

“I’m sure we’ll be just fine!” Sowyn said cheerily, clearly still excited about having gotten to help out with their appointment.

Dalaira smiled. “Yes, I’m sure we will. Still, I will let your parents know, just in case.” She slipped off the biobed and gazed at Ryley. “Is there anything else you needed of us?”

Ryley stared intently at her a moment. “No. I’m good.” He looked down at Sowyn. “Ok kiddo, homework. You can keep the tricorder. Find three people of different species scan them and record their cardiovascular readouts using this button…” he bent down and showed her the correct setting. “…think about the differences you see and bring me the tricorder we will run a comparison.”

He turned away and picked up his cane to limp off when a thought seemed to strike him. “Oh…you should probably ask for permission first people don’t like to be scanned without knowing about it. I’ve taken enough black eyes over the years to testify to that.” He limped off to deal with another patient who stood with a grumpy looking child with a rash. He didn’t look back.
