Revna nodded, “My job is to protect the mental health and morale of the crew. To see the small signs that something is wrong and assist before it turns into a much bigger problem. Much as I believe your job relies on noticing the small details. I can’t do that if I don’t know anything about you. So, let’s get to it. How would I know you aren’t up to your best?” She watched his body language but mostly his eyes. The humor was good matured, but there was a quick intellect hiding behind it and purpose. And she knew Mardusk didn’t back down, from a counseling session, an annoying admiral, or a shuttle that was being difficult.
Lt. Edman, CounselorHe looked at her for a long moment, the smile disappearing as he looked at her, his eyes not moving from hers or blinking. Finally, he said “You’d know because I would. And if I thought I wasn’t, you would seeing me regardless of the time of day.” and the smile slowly returned. “Perk of being the Security Chief… I know where everyone is all the time.” and he winked and chuckled.

Revna could hold a stare, but it was never a challenge or a contest; she simply waited. She didn’t miss the disappearance of his easy going smile and relaxed attitude. At his words her eyes showed acceptance of his statement. It did make her wonder though, if he would come to her no matter the problem, how bad would it be for him not to? That was a question for another time. “Well it might be a big ship, but there is only so far anyone can go,” she joked. “What do you like most about Atlantis? Not your job, though you’re welcome to tell me, but this posting and crew specifically.”
Lt. Edman, Counselor“Easy. The crew. Oh, and Mike’s Place. Best bar on any ship in the fleet.” and he looked at her for a moment and then said “What about you, Doc? You’re new. What do you like best so far?”
Mardusk, CoS
Revna had heard that statement from every single officer or crewman she spoke to, “the crew.” Either everyone was in on it, or it was true. And she knew it was the truth. Revna sat back and thought about his question. She was always honest and an open book, even when she didn’t want to be. Otherwise why should anyone under her care trust her. “Professionally I’m enjoying the change and weight of responsibility. Personally, I haven’t seen much of the ship yet, but I was pleasantly surprised my sister was here on board. I didn’t know that when I was assigned here. She’s the civilian teacher.”
Lt. Edman, Counselor
Mardusk cocked an eyebrow at her at said “You didnt know your sister was on board? Do you two not talk? Or was this a ‘hadnt had a chance to catch up in a bit’ kind of thing?” he asked.
Mardusk, CoS
Hmmm now there was a conundrum. She wasn’t quite sure how it had happened, but she had her suspicions. “Actually we talk quite regularly. We both got the posting about the same time, and our correspondence got lost in the cross. I got her letter the same day I arrived here, and she was here a day before me.” Revna was pretty sure some strings had been pulled to get her sister here, and not only here, but before she arrived, but she’d have to deal with that later. “What about you? Any family you haven’t seen in awhile?”
Lt. Edman, CounselorHe shrugged his massive shoulders. “Just me and my Mom. Dad died a long time ago. And she’s made an appearance here since the recommisioning. So it hasn’t been that long at all. She and the Skipper spent a lot of time together, actually. Always makes me nervous when the higher ups start whispering behind closed doors.” and he chuckled.

Revna looked at Mardusk a moment, “Your mom and the captain?” higher ups “Your mother is an Admiral, isn’t she? I remember reading that when I got a briefing of the crew on my way here. That must have been....well if it was my family I’d have taken a shuttle somewhere,” she laughed obviously joking. “Tell me Mardusk what do you enjoy most about being chief of security on Atlantis?”
Lt. Edman, Counselor
Mardusk chuckled. “Yeah… she’s been in Star Fleet almost thirty years now.” and paused and thought a moment.
“I think the thing I like best is that here the rest of the Command Staff doesn’t see me as a blunt object. I’ve had a few duty stations where it was different.” and he smiled, but it was obviously sarcastic. “My favorite was when the CO called me a… oh, how was it…” and he looked down in thought and then chuckled. “Oh, yeah.. ’ a beast with a strong back’. Wrote it right there in my fitness report. Priceless..”

Revna suddenly sat up, her eyes sparking. What the crew didn’t know about her yet, was her temper, over those she felt protective over. Her family, friends, patients, and her crew. And this crew was very quickly becoming more than just that. She pulled a PaDD from the pocket of her chair. “Just a moment.” Her voice seemed to crackled, it so different than her normal soft spoken attitude, when she was growing up she was told it was ‘cute.’ It probably was if you weren’t on the other end of it. She made a habit of only reading basic info on a personnel file before she first met with anyone, so Revna hadn’t gotten to his performance reports yet. She scrolled through the PaDD and found the entry, her eyes widened at the name. “Micah Crowell, why am I NOT surprised.” She put the PaDD away after making a note on it. “Well, he’s a small man who’s easily scares himself.”
And then she was moving on. “Where do you think you will go from here? Or do you think you’d want to stay here. All officers want something different, command, their own ship, a crew that they can work with.”
Lt. Edman, Counselor
Again the meaty Orion shrugged. “I go where they send me, Doc. I mean, I’m not asking for a transfer any time soon, mind you. But I grew up a Fleet Brat. Transient outlook comes with the territory.” and he cocked his head to the side. “But if I had to leave like right now? That would kinda suck. Just found a girl to put up with me!” and he laughed.

Revna smiled. Her thoughts turning back to the crew as a whole. Nash had told her that the Atlantis was a good place for lost souls to find themselves. Apparently, he wasn’t wrong. She was seeing that more and more as she met more of the crew. “Well I wish you both the best. Okay last question from me, and then you can ask me whatever you feel the need to.” Revna always allowed people to ask questions. For some it kept the balance, for others it eased the requirement to answer questions about themselves, but most importantly it created dialogue and connections. “What is the thing you struggle most with, personally, in your position?”
Lt. Edman, Counselor
“Gonna need you to be more specific, Counselor. Are you asking ‘what my biggest internal struggle is? Or do you mean what do I personally find the most difficult external struggle to be?” he asked. He wasnt deflecting, Mardusk didnt waste time with foolishness like that. Instead, he wanted to make sure he was answering the question she asked; not the one he thought she was asking.
