Posted by… suppressed (1) by the Post Ghost! 👻The giant Orion made his way to the office door and knuckled the chime. He was preoccupied, but his calendar reminded him that the new Counselor needed to a (now long overdue) assessment of the Security Chief. He had grunted at the notice and then made his way to this spot, but his mind was still in his office.
Mardusk, CoS
Revna heard the chime and took a deep breath. She’d seen Mardusk in passing, and he was intimidating. It didn’t help Nash had told her he’d crushed the admiral’s hand.
She was sure this Admiral Perkins deserved it, but still. She berated herself for having an over active imagination and reminded herself of his record that she had access to.
Mardusk was a warrior, the kind her ancestors would have written ballads about. The man had the cunning and skill for battle, and the intellect for negotiation and leadership. She went to open the door. “Lt. Cmdr. Mardusk, please come in.” Upon entering the office it was very subdued. The harsh grays and blues that came standard were replaced by earth tones of browns, bronzes, greens, yellows, oranges, and deep reds. There were several areas to sit, couches, chairs, floor pillows. There didn’t appear to be a desk anywhere. The shelves were filled with pieces of art and memorabilia that honored her heritage. The pictures were a mix of landscapes and abstracts, carefully placed around the room so as not to clash with each other. The shelves also included an array of different objects, from singing bowls, to art supplies, to mandalas. There was also a computer interface to allow patients to choose the background noise of their choice.“Please have a seat Lt. I’m Lt. Revna Edman. Would you care for anything from the replicator?“
Lt. Edman, Counselor
Mardusk looked around. When he spoke, it was a low rumble, like boulders rubbing together. “Hope I’m not late, Doc. Honestly, I had forgotten our meeting before the alarm reminded me. Have to say, it’s a been a few since my last eval.” and he sat on the couch, which protested as his mass settled onto it. “And no, no thank you to your offer. I’m good.” He leaned back and put his arms on the back of the couch, his wingspan slightly longer than the piece of furnitire.

Revna sat down across from him and made a mental note to get bigger furniture. The man was huge and could not possibly comfortable on the small couch she had in her office. She’d get something else. She doubted, based on the over due status of his last eval, that he would come to her office often, but if and when he did he should be comfortable. “No you were right on time. I appreciate the fact you set an alarm. Most people forget to set it and then forget to show up.” Revna said, which was the truth, people hated coming to see the counselor. “Let’s get right to it, is your eval over due because you avoid them, or because orders and life in Star Fleet have made it hard to do so?” She’d read his file, and she would hazard a guess that his orders made it difficult and less of a priority.
Lt. Edman, Counselor
He chuckled and said “Naw, I dont have any issues with Counselors. Mental hygiene and morale are important. And if those area are solid, then my job is a hell of a lot easier.” He took a breath and said “Actually, it’s over due because I just got overlooked. Have to say -” and he grinned, “- that’s a first for me. Well, and I think the last Counselor was a bit put off about the whole ‘shuttle’ incident.” and he laughed.
Mardusk, CoS
“Mental hygiene and morale of yourself, the crew, or both?” Revna smiled sligtly, she was sure this giant of an Orion had NEVER been ‘over looked’ in his life. Revna looked curious, “A ‘shuttle’ incident? Apparently, there are stories about this crew no one thought I should know.” Mardusk seemed to present an easy going and fun loving attitude. The question was, did he really? Or was it simply a mask, half truth, used to keep people where he wanted them? Neither actually bothered Revna from a professional stand point. She was sure those skills were very useful to him in his position. But how competent was the man using them? If that’s what he was doing.
Lt. Edman, CounselorHe smiled and laughed “Both sounds about right.” and he laughed again. “As for the shuttle… well… I kinda punched one once. And it kinda broke.” and he chuckled in amusement. “Not the actual shuttle, mind you. But the forward sensors would never calibrate quite right after that. Few of the crew decided that I knocked the shuttle out and had a laugh. But the Counselor always gave me the side eye after that.” The look on his face showed that the thought of the ‘side eye’ was humorous to the green behemoth.
Revna laughed. It wasn’t in her nature to be stoic with those who came to see her and she could see Mardusk knocking a shuttle out. He was big enough for it, and his record would certainly indicate he was capable of it. “Oh I’m sure that caused several ‘side eyes’ in your direction.” She could see some of the older counselors from her previous posting handling that one and it made her laugh slightly harder for a moment.
“So…” he said, locking her with a stare of his emerald green eyes and a slight smile. “I’m sure me regaling you with tales of broken sensor arrays isn’t the core of what we are gonna do here. So let’s hit it, Doc. Fire away. You have my full and undivided attention.”
Mardusk, CoS
Revna nodded, “My job is to protect the mental health and morale of the crew. To see the small signs that something is wrong and assist before it turns into a much bigger problem. Much as I believe your job relies on noticing the small details. I can’t do that if I don’t know anything about you. So, let’s get to it. How would I know you aren’t up to your best?” She watched his body language but mostly his eyes. The humor was good matured, but there was a quick intellect hiding behind it and purpose. And she knew Mardusk didn’t back down, from a counseling session, an annoying admiral, or a shuttle that was being difficult.
Lt. Edman, CounselorHe looked at her for a long moment, the smile disappearing as he looked at her, his eyes not moving from hers or blinking. Finally, he said “You’d know because I would. And if I thought I wasn’t, you would seeing me regardless of the time of day.” and the smile slowly returned. “Perk of being the Security Chief… I know where everyone is all the time.” and he winked and chuckled.
Mardusk, CoS
Revna could hold a stare, but it was never a challenge or a contest; she simply waited. She didn’t miss the disappearnce of his easy going smile and relaxed attitude. At his words her eyes showed acceptance of his statement. It did make her wonder though, if he would come to her no matter the problem, how bad would it be for him not to? That was a question for another time. “Well it might be a big ship, but there is only so far anyone can go,” she joked. “What do you like most about Atlantis? Not your job, though you’re welcome to tell me, but this posting and crew specifically.”
Lt. Edman, Counselor“Easy. The crew. Oh, and Mike’s Place. Best bar on any ship in the fleet.” and he looked at her for a moment and then said “What about you, Doc? You’re new. What do you like best so far?”
Mardusk, CoS
Revna had heard that statement from every single officer or crewman she spoke to, “the crew.” Either everyone was in on it, or it was true. And she knew it was the truth. Revna sat back and thought about his question. She was always honest and an open book, even when she didn’t want to be. Otherwise why should anyone under her care trust her. “Professionally I’m enjoying the change and weight of responsibility. Personally, I haven’t seen much of the ship yet, but I was pleasantly surprised my sister was here on board. I didn’t know that when I was assigned here. She’s the civilian teacher.”
