“No, I am Jewish but like one of your CE Christians. Well, technically I would be an HP Jew. Hanukkah and Passover but we can talk about that later,” she said and abruptly began to sing again.

And He said,

“Alexandra,” she stuck out her hand finally introducing herself.

you come down from there;
Now what class are you going to today,
***Now what class are you going to today ***

Alexandra gave a small bow looking at Chris. “You are free to applaud at any time. Don’t be shy,” she stared at him and then made a gestural clap to encourage Chris to produce one.

Lexi

“No… I really really don’t… but you can always try again, do you know ‘If I Were A Rich Man’?” he asked her as he couldn’t help but feel a warm feeling in course through him. This girl was perfect, he knew he would ruin it somehow he always did. Something would tear this apart, but he couldn’t help but wanting to stay for as long as he could to be with her.

“As for class, AP Bio… I know joy of joys, I don’t know why anymore would want to study biology, boring but… I agreed and here I am.” Chris said with a deep heavy sigh before looking over at her. “How about you, what is your poison Lexi?” he asked her, deciding he would give her a nickname. Alexandra was to long to say all the time and everyone needed a nickname.

Christopher Robins

“Lexi,” she cocked her head to the side. “Most people call me Alex so I might completely ignore you if you yell it across campus. If you do choose to use it I am okay with it but I am gonna need you to say it a lot. So Pavlov me baby,” she winked.

“Does this mean you will come on command?” he asked her as he couldn’t help but take the low ground with her right now and it was right in front of him to make the joke as he couldn’t help but bite his lower lip as he sad it. Brushing the hair out of his face as wondered what direction she would take that.

” Only if you whistle,” she said and then blew out a sound that was far worse than her singing ould ever be. “Whistle like that and I might reply.”

“As for science why wouldn’t you want to study biology. It’s the study of bodies and how they react to their environment. You can learn so much about an organism by looking at it. Why are you getting hot under the collar? It is our environment too warm or is it a rush or hormones triggering a flood of adrenaline or Oxycontin making our core temperature rise?” Picking up his hand she flipped it over and brought his wrist to her lips. Softly she blew on the area where his pulse is. “Is your pulse rising because of my lips this close to you or is it a primitive reflex because a million years ago this could be a fatal wound if I bit you? Close your eyes,” she said softly. “No peeking and sit very very still,” Lexi commanded in a soft tone. Moving as close to him as possible she held hair out under his nose. “Take a deep breath and inhale,” she whispered softly in his ear.

Chris had to admit he wasn’t sure which signals to pay attention to, his joke had certainly had a sexual undertone as she played with him but she didn’t seem to be intentionally trying to be sexual, but he wasn’t one hundred percent certain if this was something she just did to everyone or if he was just a lucky passerby. “Okay… I’ll trust you.” he said as he closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Her hair was strawberries and cream scented which made Chris melt a little inside of the sweet simplicity of the scent.

While she couldn’t actually tell there was only a binary answer to this question. She had little doubt it was going to be the equivalent of a yes response. “Did the goosebumps on your arms come out because you found the smell pleasing or is your danger sense causing the hair on your arm to become erect because you have had your sense of sight taken from you?” Schooching back to her original spot, Lexi patted his leg. “You can open your eyes now and tell me you have even a little bit more appreciation for the soft science of biology.”

Lexi Garfield

It took a few seconds for Chris to come back to where he was, his mind was wandering a little too far as he opened and blinked slightly as he looked back over at her. “Well… that was… yes… uhmmm.” blushed Chris as he felt a deep warm sensation throughout his entire body as he couldn’t help but keep his eyes locked directly on her. “You certainly know how to make biology far more fascinating, wonder what you can do in anatomy class.” he said softly as he tried to catch his composure as he didn’t want to seem like he was too taking aback, even if he was finding her entirely intoxicating.

Christopher Robins

“We can put on a saucy puppet show. I can be the cute co-ed tutor and you can be Billy Boner,” she turned bright red and dropped her head laughing. The teasing sexual tension phase was slipping into the base humor stage. Lexi was having a fun time but she wasn’t sure how far she could take things with this Chris. “For the record, Billy Boner is the Anatomy and Physiology skeleton,” she nudged him with her shoulder.

“I bet you tell that to all the guys, if you’re smart you will find a way of using that in your thesis.” he teased as he couldn’t help but laugh at the idea of her with a skeleton puppet called Billy Boner. “And if you do the thesis on Billy Boner you could have Cera Cun.... uhmm I mean… just Billy.” he said nodding vigorously as he realized what he was about to say in front of her.

“Eww no way. I am not into feet at all. You did mean Cera Cuneiform as in the three bones of the foot right?” Lexi wasn’t offened by his comment but they seem to have this weird who knows more science than the other at times. “For the record when I say I am not into feet that means while I like a love comparative anatomy I am not into man feet so keep those puppies covered and you and I can be buddies.”

“And here I was planning to expose myself like that… guess I gotta keep my shoes on.” Chis said with a mock sense of sadness in his voice as he teased Lexi. “I mean not even a pinky toe? It’s small and innocent… it never hurt anyone.”

“So you know my passion: watching physiological reactions and playing with bones. What are you studying Mr....what is your last name Chris the doubting not biology major?” Lexi resisted looking at her watch. This Chris said he was on his way to class to they had to have class at the same time. No guy blew off class for a girl at the Academy so he would give her some indication it would be time to go soon even if it too soon for her.

LeXi

“Robins, Christopher Robins. I am stellar cartography with a minor in physics and astrophysics. Almost was going into an engineering track but I prefer the theoretical to the practical. Lets me be a dreamer as I look in the stars and find ways to see them all.” he answered with a soft smile as he felt a simple ease with her. He wasn’t sure why it was so easy to talk to her, but he didn’t want this moment to go away.

Christopher Robins

“Is your favorite constellation Usra Major or Minor,” she winked at him. There was no way she did not pick up his hint about his name. For the first time ever, Lexi started to think about how maybe going to the same school with Noah might have been a mistake. She loved Noah but Noah was…reliable. There was something exciting and spontaneous about this Chris Robins. It was not like she was ever going to leave Noah for this guy but Lexi did entertain the idea of getting to know him better. Something about him made her think life would be dull if he was not in her life.

Lexi

“I always enjoyed the Hydra Cluster, lots of dark mater and it’s not something we have been to. I can imagine all the things that could be going on there… aliens to meet, planets and stars… who knows they could have elements we have never discovered. It’s that unknown I like… unsure of what’s out there, only where you have been.”

Christopher Robins

“Not the bear? Really,” she looked at him a bit skeptically.

Lexi couldn’t tell if Chris was teasing of being serious about missing the connection between his name and the animal. Shaking her head she continued on with the conversation.

“You make it sound so exciting’” Lexi stared off at the bright blue sky. “Space is so vast. I feel like you could get lost in it and with my luck I would never find my way home. I know , I know, ancient sailors used the stars to navigate but I can’t find anything but the moon, Orion, and the dippers. I have heard mars has a red hue and Venus is the brightest but it doesn’t make sense to me ,” she laughed. “I do best with just admiring how beautiful it is.” Lexi knew their time was getting short, still for some reason all she wanted to do was crawl out of three, put her head in his lap, and wait for the sky to change.

“Well then I will have to point some out to you then sometime, you might find what you were looking for was always up in the stars all along.” he mused as he looked over at her, he stare seeming to linger just a big too long as he moved a hand towards her as he pushed back a stray lock of hair that was cluttering her face.

Lexi loved and hated the feel of Chris’ fingertips brushing the side of her face. She hated it because it felt too good. The good feeling was more than the hot rush one felt when they had an attraction to someone. It was the feeling of a deeper sense of intimacy. The kind one only shared after a lifetime together filled with ups, downs, children, grandchildren, and a million concessions each had given up for the other. She didn’t move as he pulled it back and tried not to let the ripple running down her spin visibly show as his fingers ended the motion touching tracing the blade of her shoulder as he moved it out of the way.

“How about we make another deal Cadet Robins,” Lexi looked at him. The more he looked at her the more she wanted him to. Lexi has met so many people since she arrived in San Fran but Chris was the first person she wanted to get to know on more than a casual basis.

“You want to discover the stars. I want to discover a new life. What if we team up when we graduate? You pick a Goldilocks planet and get me there and I will name the first original plant or animal I discover after you. Deal,” she smiled softest at him raising her eyebrows in a questioning manner.

Lexi

“You know, you don’t need to go so far away to discover something new… but you do have a deal, Lexi. Now… we need to get out of here.” Chris said as he glanced at his watch on his wrist, a relic most didn’t seem to carry anymore as he looked at the time. Unlike most people Chris seemed to wear the watch backwards with the clock face on his wrist as he saw they only had twenty minutes to get across to the class.

Christopher Robins

“Oh,” Lexi forced a smile yet the tone of her voice fell low. “Gosh yes. The past two hours have like flown but the company made it worthwhile. So how do you plan to get us down,” she looked at him with an expression that said Lexi thought Chris had all the answers. “I am not exactly a jolly green giant.” The fun of being in the tree was starting to wane much like it had before Chris arrived. She had messaged Noah to get her out but he was starting his PT. That was two long hours ago.

“Well how I see it, we have two methods…” Chris said as he looked down at bit, leaves falling lightly in the breeze before glancing back up at Lexi as he smiled. “You might not like the options.”

“Two methods,” Lexi’s skeptical look said more than any words. Lexi had to admit that while she and Chris had had an amazing time, she had put off the getting down idea until now namely because of the seven-foot drop that was required to get down. “What methods are those?”

“Well, you can slide down me, and I can then brace you as you do a slow decent… or… you fall.” he said with a wide grin. He wasn’t sure which he liked better for her but he was interested in the choices she would make.

“Fall or slide,” she said slowly and then repeated it with more emphasis. “I am pretty sure if I slide down I am taking you with me. I mean you look strong but not that strong.” Lexi found either option lacking some appeal.

“Perfect… fall it is.” he said as he leaped down, landing in a brush up of dust and leaves as he dusted off his pant legs as he moved to get right under her. “Okay Lexi, it’s your turn. I’ll make it easy just jump into my arms… I can hold you sweetie.”

“Wow you look a lot shorter than you did twenty minutes ago,” Lexi took a deep breath judging the distance from Chris’ extended arms to where she was sitting. The gentle breeze rustled the leaves around her allowing some to be forced from the tree’s branches. Lexi watched them flutter down making her resolve waver. “How tall are you?”

“I am six four, and you’ll be fine look I can lift probably three times your weight I am sure I can handle the impact of you. Just jump doll, I got you.” he said with a reassuring tone as he looked up at her, arms raised waiting for her to take the leap.

In theory, she only had to drop like eighteen inches. The eighteen inches were fine. It was the six feet tacked on that gave her pause. Needing a second to gather the courage to jump she decided to come clean with her dilemma. Looking down into the blue eyes that previously turned her to marshmallows, she promptly announced, “Chris I am doubting your ability to catch me and my resolve to go through the academy without a single demerit. Just go to class and on the way hit someone up to come get me with a ladder,” Lexi sighed visibly more relaxed now that she had come up with a plan.

“Alexandra Garfield you jump right now, you understand me? I got you, trust me.” he said as he took a deep huff and readied himself once more.

“Christopher,” she used his full name only finding he replied back with hers.

“If I fling myself down from here onto you one or both of us is going to get hurt,” she protested in a sharp almost whiny tone. Lexi was not thrilled at this getting down part and Chris was not relenting. She could see by the look on his face, Chris was getting as frustrated as her. “Okay okay,” Lexi grumbled and left the branch. If she had just slid off and into Chris’ arms like he instructed her to things would have been marvelous; however, Lexi did not attack the task with gusto. As she leaned forward, Lexi did not commit to the plan and tightened her grip on the branch instead of reaching for Chris’ arms. This caused her stomach to come at him first instead of her upper body which Chris could have controlled. As Lexi’s body impacted his, it forced her fingers to slip from the branch and her head to go backward instead of forwards.

“Chriiiiiiissss,” Lexi warbled out feeling a sensation of falling. A half-second later she hit the ground but not on her rump or her head. Instead, she was almost in a sitting position and on something rather soft. A breathy grunt pulled her attention downwards as she realized she was sitting on Chris’ chest. Somehow he had managed to manipulate her body so that his fall cushioned hers. Looking down her hair fell around his head mixing with the spread of leaves below the tree. Her laughter made Lexi’s head shake enough that her long dark locks tickled his cheeks.

Lexi

“Well… that didn’t go as plan… but at least I can say you officially fell for me,” he said in a low gruff tone as he looked up at her. He had to admit under other circumstances he would quite love her on top of him the way she was right now. Still the impact of her foolish actions did cause some stiffness from the impact.

“Is that the official version we will tell our great grandkids one day,” she winked at him. This was the other odd thing about Chris Robins. She and he seemed to be able to switch from flirty to serious to joking at times all in one sentence. “I fell for you and stayed where I landed for the next eighty years?”

“Now… as much as I would love you to stay here for as long as you want sweetie, you mind if I have you slide off so my ribs can compress back to their normal position?”

Christopher Robins

“Oh right,” she slid off him sitting in the soft leaf mulch next to his prone body. Brushing a few stray leaves off his uniform, Lexi shook her head. “I told you that you....you,” she grabbed his arm looking at the time. Her eyes widened seeing the time. “Chris it was wonderful being tree bound with you but I gotta go.” Jumping up she grabbed her bag by the base of the tree and began to run to class. “I am going to be the first cadet to make it through the academy without a demerit. Thanks again,” she yelled and waved a hand over her head sprinting towards the sciences building. A soft breeze kicked up a whirlwind of loose flying leaves around Chris.

Lexi

Chris slid over to the base of the tree as he watched Lexi run off. He couldn’t help but smile as he watched her leave, for the first time in awhile he didn’t feel so depressed. “Lexi… I think I love you…” he said softly to himself as placed his hands in his pocket as he felt a small item. Pulling out from his right pocket he found a pocket knife as he looked over at it as he thought for a moment as he looked behind him. He remembered once his dad told him if you wanted something you should always set it in stone. He didn’t have stone, but he did have oak as he turned around and got on one knee as he took the knife out as he carved a small heart with the initials of CR and AG in the middle.

“Well Lexi, if I want this to come off as not creepy I need to make certain I wow you.” he said with a smiled as he got up. “Lets hope I get to show this one day for you.” looking around several people were walking by as he spoke to himself. “Just admiring the tree… uhmmm… nothing to see here.” he said to them as he began to slowly walk away as he put a pep in his step. He needed to get to his quarters and get his bag for class.
