*** Twelve Years Ago - First Day Of School ***

The early autumn air was a welcome sight in the bay area. Chris had been looking forward to his class he had in a few hours and decided to take a walk. Life hadn’t really gone like had planned over the past six months. The academy felt like that perfect chance to start anew as he walked in the court yard past a large oak tree that had a very peculiar site. There was a young looking cadet perched at the top, the tree branched in a way that seemed to have a u shape one could sit in if they wished. He had never seen anyone in the tree from his few times he had been in this area during orientation but today seemed a different occurrence.

Lexi sat on the large branch that extended to the side. Her feet dangling over the edge. Why she had climbed up here made sense at the time. Now she was just sitting.

“You okay?” Chris shouted as he came closer as he looked up at the woman in the tree. He had to admit he wondered what this was all about as he smiled as she looked down at him, her face seemed utterly distressed as he waited for her reply.

“For now yes,” Lexi shrugged. “Are you okay,” she looked down.

“I think so… what are you doing way up there?” Chris asked as he couldn’t help but stare a little. Lexi was beyond gorgeous as he looked at her, his heart feeling warm at the very sight of her. “Do you climb trees often or is this just an occasional hobby?” he asked as he waited to see what her response was.

As Lexi looked down the first thing she noticed was the guy was tall. Not just the six-foot-high variety but like six plus where you didn’t need to raise on your tiptoes to see over the top of refrigeration units. As it stood she was about seven feet off the ground and this guy was just about eye level with her dangling feet. He also had a pair of blue eyes that she guessed when he turned on the charm that could melt you.

“Occasional hobby,” she laughed crossing her legs letting them swing slightly. “We don’t have trees like this where I am from. It’s mostly sycamore or acacia with thick nobby trunks. Since we don’t have a real autumn like San Francisco does we don’t get this color spread. Our leaves change up north but not like this,” she took a deep breath and let it out. I climbed up here to get some leaves to make,” she stopped herself from finishing the sentence.

“So what’s your story. Do you stop and talk to every girl you see hanging out in a tree or is this a first time experience for you,” Lexi flirted looking down.

“I must admit this is indeed a first time experience, normally I just head where I was going but this was such an oddity I just had to stop and take the sight in. I must saw I am glad I got to see the sight too…” Chris said as he paused and took a scope of the tree, it wouldn’t be hard to climb up there with her he wagered as he patted the tree a bit seeing it was a solid oak.

“I’m Chris by the way… mind if I come up… it’s less peculiar of two people are in a tree together, makes people think they planned it and one of them just didn’t get stuck in it.” he asked her with a wry smirk as he wondered what her response would be.
