Dan Vladar was not a man who could go many places unnoticed. At 6’5” and having a metal prosthesis for a right arm, he was fortunate to not be considered some sort of circus freak. He entered sickbay, and, per usual, the large man in the Marine uniform garnered some attention. Give them what they expect, I guess. he had never dealt with Starfleet like this before. “2nd Lt Daniel N Vladar, reporting for boarding physical.” He said in very Marine fashion.

A bearded man in jeans and a red old oxford style shirt sat on a biobed to Dan’s left, a wooden cane dangling from the hood of the panel above it. He surveyed the man before him. “First time on a mixed starship? Marines and fleet?” He asked conversationally. He was eating what appeared to be a bag of M&Ms. He looked at the bag and offered it out.

“For long enough that I had to get a physical to stay onboard, yeah.” Dan replied. Subconsciously, in his stupor, his cybernetic arm reached into the bag and took a couple M&Ms. He popped them into his mouth. Is this what passes for an officer in Starfleet? he thought. “Are you a patient… or a physician? I don’t exactly know what Starfleet uniform code is.”

Ryley watched the arm and chewed his mouth full of chocolate a moment before helping himself to another couple. “Doctor Alexx Ryley, chief medical officer.” He offered after swallowing. “My uniform had an unfortunate accident with a disintegration unit, terrible shame but at least this doesn’t rub at the neck.”

Do you only have the one? I’d get yelled at if my ribbons were too high up on my dress uniform, and he wears civvies to work.

Ryley pushed down onto his feet gingerly and patted the bio-bed. “Hop up I’ll get you squared away.” He said and pulled his much loved, much modified, much battered tricorder from his pocket.

Dan sat on the biobed as ordered. Starfleet is so strange. He looks like he’s going hiking, not performing medical procedures. he glanced around the room at other staff. Was all of Starfleet like this?

Ryley started the initial scanning of vitals and allowed the biobed to calibrate. “Relax kid.” He said as he pulled a PaDD out and accessed Dan’s medical files. “The rest of the crew will be in uniform and prom and proper for you if it makes you feel any better.” He released the detachable probe and began moving it close to Dan’s chest. “Deep breath.” He said as he scanned, eyes fixed on the details coming up on the tricorder.
