Kelly groaned seeing the time. It was that time: 0900 hours, Monday, and staff meeting day. Few people enjoyed staff meetings and the day it was held rarely mattered. They were still boring. Secretly Kelly thought this was why one learned to pass notes to others early in an academic career. It was training for adult staff meetings and how to stay awake during them. Normally Kelly had a plethora of things on her PaDD to help her get through them and on the rare occassion, to stay awake. At least this meeting held one perk.

“Ian,” Kelly called out downing the last drop of her coffee. “Where are the pips,” she asked gathering up her PaDD’s and stylus. As if on autopilot she drank from her empty cup producing a frown on her face.

Senior Staff Conference Room

Kelly slid into her seat and could not hide the grin on her face looking at the roundtable. Drayke was amazing. She also liked the way his initial reaction to a request from her was almost always, ‘ma’ma I am not sure that is possible’ but within minutes or at the most hours, her chief engineer had found a way to turn her request into fruition. Kelly leaned back in her seat staring at the room in general. It did not look like the previous CO’s room. Kelly had a more eclectic style and believed the room should have a homier than utilitarian feel. That described the vintage artwork, fish tank and custom rolley chairs in the room. Although the meeting would be filled with countless dull reports the end would be promising. Leaning back, Kelly enjoyed her coffee as she waited for the senior staff to arrive.

Not long after, the doors slid open and Nash walked in, coffee in hand in a large, over sized mug. He nodded briefly, “Captain” he said, refraining from adding the customary ‘lumpkin’ at that time. There was a time and a place for that kind of familiarity or leg pulling, and Nash had never felt staff meetings to be that time, especially not at 9am after the night watch. Moving to his chair, he slid quietly into it to await the arrival of the others.

The door slid open and the bulk of the Security Chief moved through the doorway. He nodded at Nash if a familiar way and then looked at the CO. “Morning, Ma’am.” and he moved around the table to take a seat. He pulled out a PaDD that contained his department briefing. He then rubbed his eyes and yawned a bit louder than he had wanted to. “Sorry. Had a bit of excitement early this morning. At least my section briefing won’t be boring.” he said with a chuckle.

Mardusk, CoS

Nash looked at the big man and grinned slightly. “Nothing to do with Maybelle was it?” He asked him, “I hear she’s still popping up in the darndest places causing mischief.”

Mardusk cocked an eyebrow and said “Maybelle? No, nothing to do with any Maybelle, but you have certainly piqued my curiosity, Commander. Who is Maybelle?” he said with a slight grin.

Mardusk, CoS

The dull thud sound of Ryley’s cane sounded as always just seconds before the doctor came into view. Rumpled shirt and jeans and very clear bed head gave him a look that said he had just rolled out of bed in his clothes and wandered to the conference room. He found a chair pulled it out and gave Kelly and Ian a quick glance as though suspicious of them and the chair before hooking his cane on the table top and sitting down.

Morning meetings didn’t bother Relann, but then again, she often got up early for a workout, since she rarely had time for them otherwise. And it helped that her and Jacen could keep each other on time. This morning had been more of a rush than usual, but she walked in with her husband, coffee in hand. And then she yawned. Oops, she was more tired than she thought. She had been on the bridge yesterday evening before Nash took over, and had had some decent sleep, but it seemed the previous week was still catching up with her.
Ta’haro,” she greeted with a slight, if sleepy, smile.

Fell-Drayke, XO

“What she said.” Jacen said smirking just ever so slightly. He adjusted easier to mornings but he still could feel the drain on him. He could use an extra hour he felt easily. Looking around he nodded at everyone with a small smile as he sat next to Relann and put his PaDD on the table.

Drayke, CE

“Good Morning, Good Morning.” Rinker said as he walked in the room a moment later than most. He strode over to the replicator and ordered a coffee. “So are we just hanging out drinking coffee… getting wired and friendly?” He tilted his head as he looked for an open seat.

Rinker

“Not like the night we made eggs benedict,” Kelly said to the counselor with a bemused smirk taking a sip of her coffee and shaking her head slightly. That was one counseling check in she would not forget. How could one when that much liquor and ropes were involved? “You know I am looking for a rematch. Care to get your arse waxed this time when I don’t have to be pointing in the right direction for my backswing? I have a tee time set up for this afternoon. We can make it a foursome. More the merrier right. Just be sure to wear spiked shoes that you can run in. I am not looking to lose because you cant keep up when you are handcuffed to me.” Kelly loved altered golf. In fact, she lived for times to play. It was just half the people invited to play couldn’t keep up and the other half whined about having to go to sickbay after.

Ugh! Was what Memphis thought. He had a training exercise in full swing in holo2 he had to leave 2nd John Longwind in charge which meant they wouldn’t actually get what he wanted accomplished. Senior Staff meeting, coffee and blame and brag time, more like it. Memphis entered and dropped into a chair waiting for the meeting to begin. The table was round, odd, and likely for a dumb reason like they didnt know who out ranked who here.

Major Memphis Summervale

Kelly watched Memphis enter the room and her mind was still on Rinker as her double for golf. Memphis, however, would be a great candidate for the other set of pairs. The man was certainly athletic. At least with Altered Golf the handicap of not knowing how to play the game well was offset by brawn. Surprisingly security and marine types made remarkable Altered Golf players. What they lacked in game knowledge they sure made up for and excelled at tactical prowess, marksmanship, and just plain tackling power.

Like all staff meetings Kelly had attended since the dawn of her career, this meeting was turning out to be no different. Picking up her Padd, Kelly sent Ian a message. =/\= Lockdown holodeck three for another three hours on top of what I scheduled it for. I think I am finding a few more players for Altered Golf. They just might not know it yet, =/\= she set the typed message with a huge grin and half a chuckle. Looking up she saw Ian glance at her from across the room as he read the message. Maybe others would see or even misconstrue the message so Kelly quickly waved it off with a, “HR sent a funny message,” she said. This excuse had worked for eons. First off it was so obsurd that HR was even funny most people got caught in the brain loop of what could it possibly be they never asked to see it. Second, it was a rule that HR was not funny and typically only had bone head messages that everyone always wanted to claim they never saw so few ever asked to see it for that reason.

Nash nodded to the DH’s and the rest that had assembled while they waited and turned his attention back to Mardusk with a slight grin, which was about as wide as one would generally see on his face anyway it seemed. “Maybelle” he said to the man, “young girl, about yay high” he held a hand out somewhere above the ground, “and you hear her coming before you ever see her, although that’s normally right behind you when you think your safe. She seems to pop up in the oddest places and have a large number of hobbies along with a questionable amount of knowledge about things above her age grade. You must not of met her Lieutenant, you would know if you had.”

Lt Cmdr Ethan Nash
CTO

“Oh Maybelle again?” Jacen said with a smirk, his time with the young girl had been interesting indeed. Plus EMMA had started teaching off shift and seemed to recall some stories about her. “She tried to take a broken replicator last time we meet. I don’t for the life of me know why…” Jacen said, still trying to ponder what the kid really wanted with the item.

Drayke, CE

Relann smiled. “Sowyn met her while she was with Dalaira. I’m not sure they were entirely sure what to make of her either. But Sowyn did seem intrigued by her.”

“She is the pint-sized welcome wagon,” Kelly said letting her gaze settle on Jacen. He was tall and wirey but didn’t look like he had the stamina to make it 18 holes. She might be wrong. As an afterthought, she listed Jacen on the B team in case she could not get her alien A team together for the match. He could be that reporter Amy something or other. The chick they brought in for guest spots to plug a story leak. Besides she had a special project in mind for Drayke that might take up most of his free time for a while.

Nash nodded at both Relann and Jason, that slight grin still in place. The young girl was annoying and nosy, but he had found her unwelcome friendliness.... oddly welcoming. “A replicator? What on heavens name would she want with that? Maybe next time I run into her I’ll have to ask her what she had in mind for that. Did she end up with it?”

Lt Cmdr Nash
CTO

“Wait…Maybelle tried to get a replicator,” Kelly asked switching topics in her mind. This was her issue at staff meetings. Her inner thoughts went everywhere but the matter at hand. It was also why her staff meetings as XO lasted about an hour but only ten minutes of that was the blah blah blab warp core variances were up to par or yadda yadda yadda Starfleet’s new directive wants us to change A to B and then begin part C of some stupid armchair warriors lasted brilliant idea to be more efficient.

“Jacen you did not give a ten year old a replicator and a hammer and say have at it…did you,” Kelly looked at him quizzically.

“Yes, I gave a 10 year old a replicator and a … wait hammer? What is she going to do with the hammer make it more broken?” Jacen said wit ha perplexed look at Kelly. “No, I didn’t give her anything, she sulked off without her prize.” he said shaking his head slightly.

Ryley drank from his mug of what looked like tar but smelled of coffee, and watched the people in the room. He slid his hand up his cane and used the hooked handle to catch the chair nearest him and pull it out looking at Rinker. “Doc.” He said by way of explanation and unhooking his cane went back to his drink, closing one eye slightly as he swallowed a mouthful as if it burnt like liquor.

Ryley
M.D.

The Dy’allan quirked a smirk in Ryley’s direction but said nothing.

Fell-Drayke, XO

Moving down the PaDD to make more notes Kelly wrote a single word: uniform. Ryley showed up. He was a phenomenal medical chief but his acting like every day that ended in a “y” meant one could wear civvies to work was starting to annoy her. Kelly gaggled the internet looking for an article to help. Gaggle was the best search engine out there at least she thought so compared to Bang which was its only real competitor. The first article was from Cosmopolitan. It;s title read, How To Get Your Employees To Do What you Want and Not Quit.. Kelly opened it and quickly scanned the contents.

Tyler made his way into the conference room, somewhat sheepishly. His heart dropped when he realized he was one of the last to arrive. While he knew many of the people seated around the table, he wasn’t sure how many of them had been made aware of his new appointment. His eyes quickly scanned the room, coming to rest on Relann’s and then Jacen’s, the two present with whom he felt most close.

Quickly taking the empty chair next to Jacen, Tyler gave a meek, “Morning.”

-Tyler Michael Wells, CSO

Hearing the door kelly looked up from her article. The new science chief had entered. “Morning Mr. Wells,” she said with a smirk and nodded remembering her first staff meeting as a Big Dog. It would not be long before he sauntered in and was lost in inner thoughts like the rest of them around the table. It came with the territory but until that time, Wells was probably going to be the only person who knew all the damn details of the staff meeting. Heck, even Ian was busy typing out something on a PaDD in the corner of the room. Kelly wondered briefly if it was a reply to her earlier message.

Making his own way into the room, Rand glanced over everyone and nodded at those that returned his eye contact before sliding into one of the free chairs and placing his own PaDD before him. Not exactly Senior Staff, he was however assigned to the Intelligence Section so was free to attend the majority of the briefings and conferences where any input from his department could be offered. Running his fingers lightly over the edge of the PaDD, Rand grinned slightly in the lull before the meeting began as he thought of more pleasant pursuits in his off Duty hours.

Looking at the clock Kelly decided to begin. “Okay ladies and gentlemen let’s get down to business. Anyone have anything of immediate attention they need to bring up? Please say no please say no Kelly thought as she let her question float over the room.
