“Thank you. That…sounds nice,” he said, managing a bit more of a smile, trying his best to indicate that he wasn’t unwilling to socialize. “I look forward to seeing you around the ship.”

Kier was somewhat proud of himself for that last bit. That innocent phrase took almost every bit of his incredibly low reserves of gumption. He was committed to improving himself and he was, however small the increment.

Jessica grinned again and gave a little wave to the ensign as she returned to her organizational challenge. After a beat, she turned back and said, with a wink, “I better see you soon.” Attempting to keep a straight face, she practically skipped out of the bay and headed to the next one to ensure that all of the supplies were correctly accounted for.
