Kelly groaned seeing the time. It was that time: 0900 hours, Monday, and staff meeting day. Few people enjoyed staff meetings and the day it was held rarely mattered. They were still boring. Secretly Kelly thought this was why one learned to pass notes to others early in an academic career. It was training for adult staff meetings and how to stay awake during them. Normally Kelly had a plethora of things on her PaDD to help her get through them and on the rare occassion, to stay awake. At least this meeting held one perk.“Ian,” Kelly called out downing the last drop of her coffee. “Where are the pips,” she asked gathering up her PaDD’s and stylus. As if on autopilot she drank from her empty cup producing a frown on her face.

Senior Staff Conference RoomKelly slid into her seat and could not hide the grin on her face looking at the roundtable. Drayke was amazing. She also liked the way his initial reaction to a request from her was almost always, ‘ma’ma I am not sure that is possible’ but within minutes or at the most hours, her chief engineer had found a way to turn her request into fruition. Kelly leaned back in her seat staring at the room in general. It did not look like the previous CO’s room. Kelly had a more eclectic style and believed the room should have a homier than utilitarian feel. That described the vintage artwork, fish tank and custom rolley chairs in the room. Although the meeting would be filled with countless dull reports the end would be promising. Leaning back, Kelly enjoyed her coffee as she waited for the senior staff to arrive.

Not long after, the doors slid open and Nash walked in, coffee in hand in a large, over sized mug. He nodded briefly, “Captain” he said, refraining from adding the customary ‘lumpkin’ at that time. There was a time and a place for that kind of familiarity or leg pulling, and Nash had never felt staff meetings to be that time, especially not at 9am after the night watch. Moving to his chair, he slid quietly into it to await the arrival of the others.
Lt Cmdr Ethan Nash
CTOThe door slid open and the bulk of the Security Chief moved through the doorway. He nodded at Nash if a familiar way and then looked at the CO. “Morning, Ma’am.” and he moved around the table to take a seat. He pulled out a PaDD that contained his department briefing. He then rubbed his eyes and yawned a bit louder than he had wanted to. “Sorry. Had a bit of excitement early this morning. At least my section briefing won’t be boring.” he said with a chuckle.

Nash looked at the big man and grinned slightly. “Nothing to do with Maybelle was it?” He asked him, “I hear she’s still popping up in the darndest places causing mischief.”
Lt Cmdr Nash
CTOMardusk cocked an eyebrow and said “Maybelle? No, nothing to do with any Maybelle, but you have certainly piqued my curiosity, Commander. Who is Maybelle?” he said with a slight grin.

The dull thud sound of Ryley’s cane sounded as always just seconds before the doctor came into view. Rumpled shirt and jeans and very clear bed head gave him a look that said he had just rolled out of bed in his clothes and wandered to the conference room. He found a chair pulled it out and gave Kelly and Ian a quick glance as though suspicious of them and the chair before hooking his cane on the table top and sitting down.

Morning meetings didn’t bother Relann, but then again, she often got up early for a workout, since she rarely had time for them otherwise. And it helped that her and Jacen could keep each other on time. This morning had been more of a rush than usual, but she walked in with her husband, coffee in hand. And then she yawned. Oops, she was more tired than she thought. She had been on the bridge yesterday evening before Nash took over, and had had some decent sleep, but it seemed the previous week was still catching up with her.
“Ta’haro,” she greeted with a slight, if sleepy, smile.
