Gilly finished speaking with the counselor and headed toward her last stop. Meeting Captain Bordeaux. She still had to report for duty with Captain Styxx, but it was also important that she report for duty with the Captain of the Atlantis.Gilly
She wondered if the Captain was on the bridge, ringing the chime one more time before going to the Bridge to see if she was there. It would be logical that she would be. Reaching to touch the chime again. Gilly waited.

“Come,” Kelly called out clearing off her desk. There had been a resurgence of new crew on the ship over the past month. Kelly has planned to meet with all of them as time permitted.

Gillian stepped through the door and stood at the loose attention that she had perfected over the years, “Lt Gillian Adams, reporting for duty as ordered.” She said as she turned over one of the PaDDs that she held in her duty uniform.

Kelly took the PaDD and glanced at it. Gillian’s paperwork. I was all in place and Kelly scanned it briefly. “Coffee,” she asked heading back to her desk. It was an implied direction for Gillian to follow.
Sitting down at her desk, Kelly set the PaDD to one side. “So tell me about yourself.”

Gilly followed the Commanding officer to the seats “Coffee would be amazing.” She said “The life juice of any good soldier.”
“Does that mean you take it black?” Kelly had started her career in the security field. Long nights guarding empty warehouses or patrolling in circles hour countless hours had trained Kelly to drink coffee black. Marines were a completely different beast. They learned to typically drink it black due to long missions out in the field where hot meals were MRE’s and lukewarm coffee.
Gilly laughed “Black and strong enough to stand up on it’s own.” She said “If you had a surplus of the carrot cake that comes in some of the MRE’s then my life would be extremely set and happy.” She added as she took the cup from Kelly.
Kelly held up a finger and pressed a button on her console. “Sargent Malone I have an odd request.”
=/\= Odder than when you requested four crates of that non dairy coffee creamer?=/\= Malone’s voice has a slightly humorous tone to it.
“That was not odd. It was Christmas and we needed an edible non dairy, non sugar substitute,” Kelly retorted before getting back on topic. “Anyway I need a couple of MRE’s reference number DCC-00462 not 00461. Nobody wants carrot cake without the cream cheese icing packet. I mean MRE’s are from Hell’s Kitchen but no one needs to suffer that badly.”
Kelly logged off and brought the drinks to the seating area.
Gilly laughed “You are a god of your own making.” She said almost drooling at the sound of the carrot cake and the cream cheese icing.
“Tell me about yourself Gilly,” Kelly stated setting the coffee down and taking a seat herself. Kelly was not one to stand on rank and file. This was a one on one with new crew so Kelly was very informal.
Gilly took a seat and looked at Kelly “Been in the Marines since I was 18. Served in several combat zones, been shot at, shot several times. Done stupid things that were of questionable sanity, but I am dedicated to my team and the protection of the ship and crew. You tell me to jump, I ask two things: How high and what’s my mission?” She said “If we don’t have a specific mission, it becomes a recon situation, until it is no longer a recon and my mission objective becomes clear. We are the plan B when all other plans have failed.” She added “I know that Star Fleet likes to take a more diplomatic approach and I can be diplomatic but my job as I see it is to make sure this ship and her crew are secured and safe, as much as they can be.” She said taking a long drink of the coffee.

“Well looks like you will fit in here very well. I swear we are always at Plan B,” Kelly chuckled. “Having Marines on the ship has been a huge benefit for us. Since I have both a Marine CO and a chief of security we have divided the chain of command into two parts. The Marines are in charge of most dirt side combat with security assisting but on the ship it is the other way around. Styxx and Mardusk came up with detailed plans I am sure she will go over.” Kelly took a long sip of her coffee and paused looking at the file of the woman on her console. It was filled with commendations and awards as with most Starfleet officers. “Tell me about what brought you here?”

Gilly nodded “I expected nothing less.” She said noticing Kelly glance at the PaDD with her details “I apologize for the redaction of a lot of the details about my career. There have been several sensitive missions that I have led that have implications that are on a need to know basis. What I will tell you is that all of my actions are justified and I will do my best to make sure that everyone on a mission with me, comes back in one piece.” She said
“I command by honest communication.” Kelly settled back in her seat. Some people embraced her command style others transferred off before they even unpacked. “I don’t put a lot into redacted files. Command can redact so much that it can read as negative most of the time even if the person single handled saved the Federation. I prefer my crew to share what they want and are hopefully comfortable enough to share it all with me in time. That also means I am open to any question and if it is within my power I do share all information.”
Gilly nodded “Well, then I will tell you what I can. My last mission was at the border or alpha and delta quadrant. A small sect of Romulanesque folks decided to start attacking civilian freighters and even a few Star Fleet ships. No one was to know that we knew what was going on. We were dropped about 100 clicks from the ‘raiders’ and we managed to get aboard their ship, disrupt things, and found a few prisoners that had been taken. Things started getting hairy and one of my men, ended up being on their side and nearly got us all killed. We didn’t lose any hostages, I lost three members of my team and I was hit I don’t remember how many times. Needless to say, they enemy ended up with an engine overload and a big boom, that was bigger than it should have been…due to some of their cargo.”
She looked at Kelly “I understand we have a young guest on board. What’s the story about this?” Gilly asked trying to get a handle on the information that she had been given by others. She hadn’t had a chance to get back with Styxx to get her input, that was going to be on the list of things to do as soon as she finished here.

Well that came back to bite me in the ass Kelly thought hearing Gilly’s question. The question stung a lot more than Kelly would admit or show however it was relevant and important for her crew to know what was happening. Opening a drawer, Kelly pulled out a bottle of rum and poured some in her coffee. Holding out the bottle towards Gilly, Kelly set it on the table indicating for the woman to take it if she wanted.
Gilly picked up the bottle and added some to her coffee. It was just added motivation. Setting it back down, she leaned back in her chair to listen to what Kelly had to say about the whole situation.
“Her name is Jessa. Her last name,” Kelly wobbled her head back and forth, “is up for some debate. The only reason I am stating this is that like you said, we have a guest on board who coincidentally lives in the captain’s quarters.
Gilly nodded “Okay, wasn’t expecting that part, but go on.” She said taking another drink of coffee.
So about a month ago we detected an unfamiliar signal. Our ship was boarded by four aliens. They called themselves Elders. Totally creepy religious folk with the flowing robes and spouting biblical quotes. Five minutes on the ship they tried to kill us and one of the individuals they arrived with which was the child Jessa. Within a week they broke out of the brig assisted by Jessa however she insists it was to leave. The Elders instead launched an attack on the promenade. Miraculously no one was killed in the attack on the ship however we did try to breach the ship the aliens arrived in which resulted in several Marine deaths. As you might guess the Marines are not a fan off Miss Jessa. In the attack on the Promenade the three Elders died. The real mystery with all of this is where the aliens claim they are from. It is a galaxy called Vela Astria in the Caelum supercluster which is a one-point four billion miles from Earth. The Caelum supercluster is the largest supercluster in the universe containing over 550,000 galaxies on the boundary of the known observable universe so we know it iexists but there is no known way they could come here based on our technology. Based on their technology they use the Cosmic Web which we do know of but they call the Celestial Labyrinth to travel among the galaxies under their control. Our physicists are trying to math it up to see how they do it but as of now we have no idea.” Kelly let this part sink in and took a sip of her drink. After answering any questions, she would continue.

Gilly listened quietly, her mind going over what the Captain had said carefully “So, is Jessa some sort of prophet for the Elders? The only reason that I can think of them bringing a child on a mission to what amounts an attack, she has to be someone special.” Gilly took another long drink “Has she given any indication what her position or purpose is in the religious sect?”
Adams
“The Galactic Union is a theocracy. From what Jessa has stated the entire civilization obeys someone called the Rectoress and she sends the Union out to subjugate any planet they encounter. I mean that me is adult paraphrasing it. Jessa is far more devout. Right now she is seeing Rinker every day and he is working on deprogramming her. For the most part there has been a lot of successes however DNA has shown she is Ian’s biological daughter. As you can see this is problematic. Either he is part of all this and lying. He doesn’t know he knocked someone up. Jessa is not from where she is claiming or she is some kind of clone. Any of those answers are problematic so we are just taking one day at a time. Jessa can be a lot. Some of the crew understand the situation we are in and why she is still on the ship. Others are less open minded.”

Gilly took another long drink of her “coffee” and sat thoughtful for a moment “Ok…that does make things a bit more convoluted than I prefer.” She admitted “And I can see why some people are torn about her being here. I understand that she is talking with the counselor on a daily basis....but is she talking or just telling him what she thinks he wants to hear?” While a Marine, Gilly also studied the subtle art of interrogation.Kelly made a waffling motion with her head. “I think a bit of both but Rinker is adept as knowing when he is getting lip service and when he is getting facts. That being said, she is making some small gains assimilating. God that makes it sound like she is Borg,” Kelly groaned and shook her head. “Anyway, Jessa is not walking around sounding like a traveling preacher anymore so there is some progress I guess.”
She looked at Kelly and smiled “What could a game of pickle ball hurt, right? Or whatever game she likes to play, maybe get her to loosen up and be a kid for a little while and she might be more willing to share some of her secrets.”
Gilly shrugged “I’d be willing to be her best buddy for a while and see what we can learn using other means of getting on her level.”
Adams
“I am up for it but be prepared for a lecture about how primitive we are and how glorious the Union is,” Kelly let out a chuckle.

“Primative…haven’t been called that in oh…three weeks.” Gilly laughed “I’m sure we can find something that we can do together. Has she given any indication of what kind of things she likes/liked to do before coming aboard the Atlantis?” Gilly asked taking another drink of coffee. “We’ll go no where other than the holodeck or 10 forward.” Gilly said just to make sure that Kelly knew the child would not be going to any sensitive areas of the ship.
Adams
“Jessa is difficult to connect with but she has mentioned an interest in music and gymnastics.”
