“Not at all. It sounds like a good plan,” Relann said with a nod. “Whenever possible I think cross-training is important. Which bring me to something I was pondering and that is in the form of some special drills. We do the usual department drills, but we might want to expand that and do some more unusual or less expected scenarios. My thought was that it can involve some coordination between key parties, but the rest don’t know it’s a drill.” She sat back with a sort of ‘what do you think?’ kind of look.

Nash’s thoughts drifted to another scenario in his past, it wasn’t exactly a drill but real, but it did bring to his mind the reactions of the crew when they knew the action was real and not a simulation they could turn off and try again with.

For many, they never got the chance to try it again. Many people blamed him for that. Raising his eyes to Relann and shrugging slightly in acknowledgement which somehow for him did not seem unusual or disrespectful, it was just him. “If the crew think it’s real, it will give them some valuable experience that most of them don’t have. It might save their lives, and ours. It’s easy enough to create scenario’s for that, make them think we really have an engineering or science emergency. The ships Computer can help. What did you have in mind?”

She shrugged slightly. “Nothing specific at the moment. But if you and Lt. Mardusk are both on board with the idea, I’ll pitch it to the captain. She can know as much or as little as she wants and then we can come up with the scenario together. Work for you?”
